23rd November
Connor and Daniel had met Autumn by the bridge he dropped his arm over her shoulders and kissed her cheek. “Come on let’s make tracks.”
“Yeah let’s I feel like this is going to be a long day.” Daniel added.
And he was right the guys met us by the gates we could fell our principles eyes burning through us so we just walked through the gates and onto school as sh scowled at us. It didn’t seem to have any effect on Connor and the guys, I buried my head and we walked in. “Guess she hasn’t had any this morning.”
“Doubt she has any any morning by the loo on her face.”
They all laughed. Connor slid his arm from round me. “I’ll see you later babe.”
“Bye Con.”
“Later Autumn.’
“Yeah later red.”
“Yeah later.”
They continued down the corridor as I came upon Mr. Grayson’s office.
Mathew looked at Autumn. “Nice to see that you’re on time.”
“Aren’t i always.”
He smiled. “Yes you are. Come in.”
She slipped into the room he closed the door. “I done is both a coffee please take a seat.”
She sat down as he walked across the room. He sat opposite her. “How are you today Autumn?”
“Fine.’
“Good.’ He breathed heavily. ’I heard about yesterday”
“Well that sour face b***h had it in for all of us”
He nodded his head. “So you’re still not finding it easy to fit in?”
“Not really connor and his friends are really cool..l
“I hear a but coming on.
She looked at him nervously. “I just feel alone.”
He smiled. “You don’t have to Autumn you have friends though they get you into trouble?”
“I get my self into trouble” She corrected.
“I see.”
“You don’t have to feel alone Autumn myopic should never have to feel alone. You have your friends. And you have me.” He said, placing his hand on her hand.
“I know.’ She sighed. ’But I’ll still feel alone after everything that happened.”
She swallowed.
“It’s the past autumn and the only way to go forward is talk about it, banish the demons and find yourself again so you can be truly happy again.”
“What if I can’t be happy again?”
“You will be.”
“I don’t know I just feel alone. They all made me feel so alone.”
“Who did?”
The bell rang.
He slipped his hand off hers. “You’re stronger than you think you are Autumn.”
“I wish I was..
“You are. Keep your head held high, you can face this. I’ll help you.”
“You promise.”
“I promise.” He looked at her. ’We’ll talk more next week on this okay.”
“Okay.”
“You best be getting to your next lesson.”
“Thanks.”
“No need to thank me, that’s what I’m here for.”
She pulled herself up. “Bye Matt.”
“Autumn.”
She walked out of the room closing the door behind her Daniel looked up at her and smiled. She returned his smile awkwardly, walking down the corridor.
Break passed no one had seen her not even Connor she’d missed English and that wasn’t like her.
Connor sat next to Autumn. “So where you been you weren’t in lesson.”
“Detention.’”
“How come?”
“Dormston held the whole class back. He wasn’t pleased that no one was paying attention to his lesson.”
“Oh.”
They all went outside for a cigarette there was a chill in the air, the bell rang and they all said there goodbyes heading for registration.
Daniel and Autumn walked into their last lesson. They sat down on their seats near the back of the room.
“Well here’s your next piece of course work as promised you’ve got till winter break to finish it.’
“Hey guys.” Con said slipping his arm around Autumn kissing her cheek.
“Con.”
“We have another assignment to do together.”
Gee he must’ve really liked the last.”
“I think it’s due to the rack me and Autumn work well together instead of working with one of those air head whores who just want to get in your d**k instead of getting good grades.”
“And you’d know about that wouldn’t you Dan?”
He cut his eyes as they walked out of school meeting up with their friends walking home saying their goodbyes.
Connor looked at Autumn. “So have we got this weekend to ourselves.”
“At the minute yeah me and Dan can start the assignment next week we’ve got a month to complete it.”
He smiled moving forward. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay.’
He kissed her softly. “Night babe.”
“Night Con.”
He walked away as she lit a cigarette.
Gaz leaned forward and kissed her cheek. “Good evening babe.”
“Gaz.”
“You okay?”
“We need to talk.”
“Okay, let’s sit down.”
“Okay.”
They walked across the bridge sitting in the grass. “So what’s wrong Autumn?”
“I don’t think we should see each other again.”
“We’re not on this again are we?’
“Yes we are.’
“I told you tell your mom the truth Autumn.’
“I can’t.’
“You can we’ve been seeing each other for almost a month. Tell her or I will.’
“No you can’t.”
“I will if you won’t.”
“I..”
“One week and I’m telling her about us.”
She swallowed
He leaned forward. “I really like you babe the only way we’re going to get to know each other better is by you telling your mom so we don’t have to keep secretly meeting one another.” He moved forward, pressing his lips on hers kissing her passionately.
24th November
Autumn sat by the lake thinking she’d told Stenton it would be okay for her to go and
study at his today she really wasn’t looking forward to it he was meeting her soon and it would be her home and his dad in the house being as his mom worked weekends. She smoked her cigarette wondering how the hell she was going to tell Gaz it was over, and how she was going to get through the next few hours at Stentons before she met up with Connor.
“Hey red.” A gruff viocie said, disturbing her thoughts.
She looked up the sun looked as if it was a mirror behind him lighting him up. “Stenton.”
“So are we okay to do this?”
“Yeah.”
He held his hand out. She placed her hand in his he closed it around hers pulling her up. “Don’t ever say I’m not a gentleman.”
“I don’t.”
“You have on several occasions.”
“I sorry if I offended you Stenton, but everyone said.”
“I know Red. I haven’t got a good reputation with girls.”
“You can be a gentleman Stenton it’s just a pity it’s not all of the time.”
“My mouth gets in the way.”
“Well it’s not now.”
“Come on Red, my dad’s expecting you he really likes you. I tried to tell him we were just friends, but he insists you stay for lunch.”
“Okay.”
“He’ll give you a lift back.”
“Are you sure?”
“He insisted Red.”
“Okay thanks.”
“So are you seeing Con today?” He asked, as they walked away.
“Yeah later once were done.”
“Cool.”
They walked through the park heading towards the town and the estate by the mass of fields. He opened the door. ‘Come in red.’
She followed him in he closed the door.
“Is that you Jonah?”
“Yeah it’s me and Autumn, Dad.”
“Come through.”
“Come on, Red.”
She followed him into the large sitting area. “Nice to see you again Autumn.”
“You to Mr. Stenton.”
“Your mom and me had along chat the other day.”
“I know. She said she was quite impressed that at least one person I went to school with had a police officer as a dad and would keep us safe.”
“I try my best.”
“We best get started Dad.”
“Sure you can use the conservatory.”
“Sure dad come on Red.”
“Why does he call you that?”
“Not sure.”
“It’s polite to call people by there first name Jonah.”
“I know I always call it her.”
“It’s rude.”
“I’m not the only one I just thought it was a perfect name for a fiery red head.”
“Makes sense, but use her name while she’s here okay.”
“Sure Dad, come on Red, I mean Autumn.”
His dad smiled and she followed him out into the conservatory. They sat down getting their books out. “I’m sorry about my dad he thinks it’s ignorant to use Nicknames we should only use the names that we were given by our parents it more polite.”
“It’s fine Stenton." She looked at him. “Should I call you Jonah.”
“No, it’s fine just in front of my Dad aye.”
“Okay.”
“Well we best start this assignment or its never gonna get done.”
“Okay.”
They worked hard till lunch. He looked at her. “We work well together red. I hope we can work on other assignments together.’
She sat nervously, he leaned forward. “Jonah, Autumn lunch.”
“Saved by the bell or Dad.’
She laughed, he smiled kissing her quickly. “You best not tell Con that I kissed you.”
“I won’t.”
He smiled. “Come on let’s get something to eat.”
They pulled themselves up going into the dining ares sitting down eating chicken and rice.
’“I hope you’ve been behaving yourself Jonah.”
“As always.”
“He usually doesn’t get much work done I’ve seen girls run out of here.”
“Dad.”
“It’s the truth you must be special.”
“I don’t think I am.”
“Well Jonah certainly does to keep his hands to himself.”
“Dad.”
“Well if you had in the past you’ve got better grades.”
“I respect Autumn, she’s helped me a lot and stuck around and I’m grateful.”
“Good. So you should be You’ve lost a lot of help I tried to warn you you chose not to listen.”
“I know and I’m sorry. I’m doing better this time.”
