Chapter 2

1003 Words
"You bastard, you're still alive? How dare you come back here!" Henry Steele roared, pointing at Jack with a furious expression. Henry Steele, Jack's nominal uncle, held the highest status in the Steele family apart from the Patriarch. He was also Todd's father. Jack was an orphan adopted by the Steele family. When he was young, he used his saved pocket money to start a business. When the Steele family discovered this, they thought he was bringing shame to the family name. But within three years, Jack's company had swallowed up all its competitors, making the Jack Group a titan in Wyndcrest's business world. The Steele family, driven by greed, wanted to seize this enormous wealth. Out of gratitude for his upbringing, Jack gave nearly half of the company's shares to the family, despite their greed. However, Jack underestimated their avarice—they wanted the entire Jack Group! They vilely drugged his drink with an aphrodisiac and tried to frame him for assaulting his sister-in-law, intending to expel him from the family and throw him in jail. Unexpectedly, Jack was rescued by Emily, and they ended up together instead. "Bastard, I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?!" Henry, seeing Jack's silence, angrily stepped forward to slap him. Jack reacted swiftly, slapping Henry to the ground. "Any familial ties between us were severed eight years ago. Today, I'm here to settle the score!" Henry was stunned; he hadn't expected Jack to dare lay a hand on him. "Ungrateful wretch! The Steele family raised you, and now you dare hit your elders? You're no different from a wild beast!" Henry's wife, Olivia Steele, shouted from the side. Jack's anger surged. 'It was Robert Steele, my foster father, and his family who raised me, not these despicable people! They tried to seize my wealth through conspiracy and, when that failed, caused a car accident that killed my foster mother on the road. My foster father couldn't bear the grief and took his own life. As an orphan, the love from my foster parents was the most precious thing to me. You bastards ruined my family!' Thinking of this, Jack's hatred for the Steele family deepened. "Henry, don't waste your breath on this scum. Guards, throw him out!" one of Jack's cousins shouted. "Wait..." An elderly voice came from within. Edward Steele, the Patriarch, wearing a dark suit, walked out slowly with the help of a butler. "We have important guests at this banquet. Shouting is not gentlemanly. Jack, why are you back?" "I don't like nonsense. The Steele family owes me, and it's time to pay up," Jack said, looking at the family members at the banquet. He began to announce his terms. "First, the Jack Group is my creation. I am reclaiming it. If you refuse, I won't hesitate to destroy it. Second, those who conspired against my parents must repent at their graves for three days. If not, the Steele family will disappear from Wyndcrest." "Third," Jack's gaze fixed on Edward, "I know you orchestrated the conspiracy. If you repent at my parents' graves within three days, I'll spare your family's lives." The Steele family members at the banquet were first stunned, then burst into laughter, looking at Jack as if he were a fool. Was Jack crazy? What kind of joke was this? Emily was also stunned! She hadn't expected Jack to dare say such things. 'The Steele family was one of the most powerful families in Wyndcrest now. They wouldn't have been able to invite such esteemed guests otherwise. Even if Jack survived the battle, he was just a soldier returning from the front lines. How could he say such outrageous things? Was he courting death?' "Bastard, are you out of your mind?!" Henry sneered. "The Jack Group has always been the family's property. It's just a coincidence that it shares your name, and it's now renamed as the Todd Group. What makes you think it's yours?" "We won't agree to any of your conditions! In fact, I demand that within three days, you break your own legs and crawl out of Wyndcrest. If you don't, you will die!" Henry threatened, not believing Jack had the power to challenge him. After eight years of death battle on the battlefield, Jack had eradicated anyone who dared threaten him. His former uncle's audacity was impressive. "Then we'll see who will win in three days," Jack said, unwilling to explain further. Emily was still present; he didn't want to start a m******e. On the way to the mansion, Emily had roughly told Jack about the events of the past years. After Jack joined the army, the Steele family discovered Emily had been helping him secretly. They immediately used the Jack Group's power to retaliate against the Foster family. Unable to compete, the Foster family saw all their companies acquired within a month, their assets shrinking by 90%. Emily's grandfather couldn't bear the change and passed away. Today, Emily was nearly assaulted because Todd invited her to dinner, promising to spare the Foster family if she attended. Emily had no choice. If Jack hadn't arrived in time, the consequences would have been grave. Arriving at the Foster family villa, Jack was about to knock when Emily stopped him. "Jack, many in my family have grievances against you because of the Steele family's revenge,. My parents might be harsh, but please don't get angry." "It's okay. It's my fault that caused your family ended up like this," Jack said apologetically. "But rest assured. Now that I'm back, I'll reclaim everything we've lost! The Foster family will rise to the top, even standing at the pinnacle of the world!" Hearing this, Emily looked helpless. "Jack, please don't say that in front of my parents, or they'll mock you." Jack was about to explain when Emily opened the door with her key. "Oh, Emily, you're back! Come in, Mr. Yates has been waiting for you!" A middle-aged woman welcomed them. But when she saw Jack, her expression changed instantly.
