CHAPTER 6

I TRUST YOU An hour and a half had passed since Dorah started helping Juliana out and this meant that they were almost opening the bakery for the first time. Even though Juliana kept smiling from ear to ear as they made their small talk, deep down, she was so scared. What if this bakery turns out to be a loss. She has put in so much and it would literally kill her if things backfire on her. "We are ten minutes away from opening," Juliana told Dorah once they were done setting up the entire bakery. " Good luck my dear," Dorah said, forcing a smile. At exactly 12:00 noon, Juliana opened the doors. She had hoped for a great turnout but as the clock went by, no one came. Not even Cooper. Juliana's heart felt raw. She felt so betrayed. She had put so much in this bakery but no one seemed to see. It is as if she had wasted her precious time. She is a failure, she is the problem. Juliana quickly excused herself and went to the back. As soon as she got inside the washroom. She broke down. She cried as she choked on her own tears. Dorah had been watching Juliana all along. She had come here with the aim of bringing her and her bakery down but seeing the work that she had put in place to make this bakery a success. She might be her biggest threat but she couldn't help but feel sorry for her when no one turned up to get something from her bakery. It was crystal clear that all the hard work that she had put to this place had gone to waste. Juliana was taking way too long in the washroom hence she decided to go and find out what was happening. When Juliana heard Dorah's footsteps approaching, she quickly wiped her tears away. She was not about to show her vulnerability to a stranger. "Juliana, are you in there? Are you okay?" Dorah asked as she knocked on the door. Juliana wanted to hide the fact that she was not okay by lying but she couldn't do it. Fresh tears streamed down her face. Dorah had offered to help; she figured that she can also tell her of her frustration. We all know that a secret once shared is half solved. "Go away," Juliana's voice cracked as she spoke. This made Dorah aware that all was not well inside there. " No, I am here for you. Just let me in," Dorah said as she continued knocking gently. "In here is gross. You wouldn't want to be here, trust you me," Juliana said. "I am willing to be there to hear you out. You need a friend and I want to be that friend," Dorah didn't know the weight of what she had said until it left her mouth. This caught Juliana by surprise. Never once had someone offered to be her friend. They might have had a rough patch the first day they met but it turns out that Dorah is indeed a nice person. Juliana quickly got to the washroom and the two of them walked to the bakery together. "I am such a failure. I failed to build a nice bakery. People don't even care because I am not worth it. I don't deserve anything nice that comes my way," Juliana poured her frustrations. She was on the verge of tears. For the first time ever, Dorah could relate to her. She had been doubting herself for so long. She recalled being at this stage in her life. "Don't talk down on yourself my dear. You are one of the good ladies I have met. You are so ambitious and passionate," Dorah countered. "Don't say that to make me feel better just because you are my friend. I want you to be honest with me. Tell me the truth," Juliana was in need of a brutal truth. "I have ever doubted myself. Sometimes I do. But that does not stop me from pursuing my dreams. You should not allow that feeling to s**t you down," Dorah advised. "Then why are people not coming to my bakery?" Juliana implored. She wanted all the answers right now. "Wait, did you advertise the launch date on social media?" Dorah asked. "No, why? Plus I am not into social media," Juliana said and Dorah was in shock. "Social media is everything. People failed to come not because you are a bad person but because they did not know. Let me post your bakery business online and ask people to come," Dorah offered. "Really? Do you think that it will work?" Juliana implored. "It will work my dear. All that you have to do is to trust me," Dorah said and amidst the situation, Juliana found herself smiling. Dorah posted Juliana's bakery on f*******: and i********:. Immediately she did that, she started receiving likes. Other people also commented that they would be coming. True to her word, people started coming. They started selling and by the end of the day, they had beaten their daily target. Juliana was bubbling with excitement. "Thank you so much," She said as she hugged Dorah. "You are welcome," Dorah said with a small smile playing on her lips . " Thank you for choosing to be my friend," Juliana thanked her. "Thanks too," Dorah said. She could tell that Juliana was worth trusting. The lady is pure and she has a kind soul. Maybe she would get the perfect friendship that she has been looking for, for eternity with her. She will finally understand how it feels to be in a loving friendship, not a fake one like the ones she had in the past . "Now that we are cool, I wanted to make things clear," Dorah said. "Tell me," Juliana was willing to do anything to maintain their friendship. "Cooper is my boyfriend. Please, avoid him like plague. If you ever betray that then we will fall apart and you won't like it. I have a dark side that I try my best to hide from people," Dorah was honest with Juliana. She hoped that she was going to listen.
