Ava’s P.O.V
I remembered Isaiah finding me in the hotel and carrying me out of there, but after that I have no idea what happened. I woke up and found that I was back in Isaiah’s room, but he was nowhere to be seen. I knew where Mercury’s office was, so I got off the bed and stormed out of his room, going downstairs. I didn’t even bother knocking as I stormed into Mercury’s office, slamming the door open so hard that it banged into the wall behind it and then slammed shut again. Mercury looked up in shock from his computer at the sudden intrusion, but soon recovered when he saw it was me.
“So, I see you are up and you are pissed…” Mercury started to say, but I quickly cut him off.
“DAMN RIGHT I’M PISSED OFF!!! WHAT GIVES YOUR SON AND YOU THE RIGHT TO KEEP ME HERE?!!! YOU HAVE NO f*****g RIGHT WHATSOEVER!!! I DEMAND YOU LET ME GO RIGHT NOW!!!” I shouted at him, but after I finished Mercury got up and walked from behind his desk to stand right in front of me. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t intimidated and slightly scared, after all I had just shouted at the head of the mafia, not only in his office, but in his house.
“I WANT YOU TO LISTEN TO ME VERY CAREFULLY, LITTLE GIRL!! DO. NOT. EVER. WALK INTO MY OFFICE AND DEMAND ANYTHING FROM ME!! THIS IS MY f*****g OFFICE AND IF YOU WANT TO GO THEN f*****g GO, BUT OH LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING BEFORE YOU DO LEAVE!! THERE ARE ROGUES OUT THERE THAT ARE AFTER YOUR BLOOD AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO GET IT!! THEY DON’T WANT YOU HERE, SO GO ON, RUN ALONG LITTLE GIRL!! RUN FROM THIS PROPERTY AND I PROMISE YOU THAT MY SON WILL NOT COME AFTER YOU AGAIN, HE WILL LET YOU DIE OUT THERE!!” Mercury calmly said and then walked to the door and held it open for me.
“Make your choice, human, leave or stay. We’re not stopping you.” Mercury said, making me even more pissed off that he didn’t see anything wrong with what they had done to me. f**k, I thought to myself, but I didn’t say anything after that and just walked out of his office. I walked back up to Isaiah’s room and I was now more confused than scared. What the hell was he talking about? What are rogues and why do they want my blood? What have I done to them, whoever they are? Plus I still wanted answers about what the hell Isaiah was and why he didn’t tell me. I flopped down on Isaiah’s bed and started thinking about everything that Mercury had just said, what I had seen Isaiah and the others change into and everything else. I thought about it all so hard that I got to the point I gave myself a headache. A few hours later there was a knock at the door and then Isaiah walked in with a plate of food in his hand. I hadn’t realised I was hungry until I smelled the food, but I wasn’t sure if I should eat it after he had obviously drugged me to bring me back here. He placed the plate down on the bed in front of me and I saw that it was chicken and rice, but I was so hungry that I didn’t care and ate every bit of it. Isaiah stood there watching me eat and when I was done I handed my plate back to him. I wanted to yell at him, but I wasn’t sure how he would react or what he would do. He was an animal after all and he could turn dangerous if I yelled at him like I had done with Mercury. s**t, was Mercury a wolf or whatever Isaiah was, as well.
“Isaiah, wait.” I said, stopping him before he could leave. He turned and sat down on the bed next to me.
“What are you? I mean, how….what…I…I…” I started to say, but it just came out like stuttered ramblings. I really wanted to ask him how he could change into a wolf, but it was coming out all wrong.
“How?” I asked and thankfully he knew what I meant because he nodded and smiled.
“We are werewolves, but not the kind that goes on a rampage and kills people. We protect our kind, our family and friends. Where you are now, this house, it's called a pack house and the land it is on is our territory, which belongs to the pack, our pack. We’re all a family here and yes, we are also the head of the mafia. I didn’t lie to you when I said that my father is the king of the mafia, but I promise that we are not out to hurt you, Ava. It's kinda hard to explain this, but I could never hurt you, you’re my mate and I will protect you with my life. This place, this territory and pack are called the Blood Moon Mafia Pack.” Isaiah replied, but all it did was give me more questions.
“So….hmm….er….well, what are rogues?” I asked, wanting to know that first as they were what Mercury said was after me.
“Rogues are nasty smelling rotten wolves that don’t go by the rules. They don’t live in normal packs like this, they live in what we call rogue packs and sometimes they are peaceful and end up making a decent pack, but a lot of times they go out on their own and start trouble. These are the ones that are after you and they don’t like humans because once upon a time humans hunted us down and killed us, but centuries ago a treaty was signed, no human shall kill a shifter and no shifter shall kill a human. The rogues that are after you don’t agree with the treaty and any human that comes into the woods are never found again.” Isaiah replied, shocking me. This was all so much to take in, not just what Isaiah had said, but also what Mercury had said as well. I was damn sure that I didn’t want to meet any of these rogues, but I didn’t even know what they looked like or smelled like. How did I know that I hadn’t already met one? What did he mean when he said I was his mate? I still had loads of questions running through my head, so while Isaiah was willing to answer my questions I would keep asking them.
“What does a rogue look and smell like?” I asked, wanting to know who I should avoid.
“They look just like me or you, but they smell really nasty, like rotten eggs and spoiled milk. The clothes they wear are dirty and sometimes badly ripped, plus they don’t take baths and when they do it's normally in the river, but it doesn’t help with the smell.” Isaiah replied and all I did was nod. So the only way to really tell them was by the way they smelled, but hopefully I would never be close enough to smell one.
“What's a mate? Is that like two guys that are friends and one goes hey mate look over there or something?” I asked, but Isaiah just looked at me like I was crazy before shaking his head.
“Hmmm….No, when we find our, well, our girlfriends or boyfriends as they are called to humans, but to us they are called mates, we are with them until the day we die. Every wolf is granted a mate and we love and cherish them, there is no cheating or wanting another person, it's just them. You see for wolves our mates are everything to us.” Isaiah replied and the way he spoke about mates made it sound so perfect and magical, but there were still a few things that were bugging me.
“So…um…when you asked me to be your girlfriend, was that your way of asking me to be your mate? Am I your mate? How do you know I’m your mate? Do you get to choose?” I asked, still confused about this whole thing, but all he did was chuckle and then he looked at me seriously.
“Yes Ava, you are my mate. I know you’re my mate because of your scent. Every wolf has a scent and their mate has a specific scent that they recognise instantly. Your scent is strawberries and lemon, that's how I knew you were my mate. When we catch a scent it drives our wolves crazy, until we find who it belongs to and once we find the source of the scent there is no stopping us from being together. Mates complete each other, they are the other half of our souls. We are a pair and if anyone ever tries to take a mate away or rip us apart then we stop at nothing to kill them. Yes Ava, you are my mate and when I bit your neck I marked you as mine, so whoever sees my mark on your neck knows that you are already taken and marked by me.” Isaiah replied, explaining the whole mate thing.
“Wait, so you already knew that we were mates and you never talked to me about any of this? What the f**k Isaiah? That's the reason you bit the s**t out of me? Well son of a b***h, I’m a f*****g werewolf’s mate. Well damn it man, I wish….well, nevermind because if you had told me about all of ths before I would have thought you were off your rocker.” I said and he started laughing.
“I had to mark you, that night I took you home I smelled rogues in the woods near your house and I saw how scared you were. That night we made love and I bit you, marking you in the hopes that it would make them leave you alone. I wanted to mark you after I had explained everything to you, but I needed to do it sooner and my wolf was pushing forward.” Isaiah replied, making me confused as to what he meant by his wolf pushing forward.
“So, I know that you have already met my family, but do you want to meet them properly as well as the rest of my family, they’re actually downstairs waiting. In promise they’re not going to eat you or hurt you, you are actually in line to be their next Luna and before you ask a Luna is you. The Luna is the Alpha’s mate and she helps the Alpha with running and protecting the pack, she also goes to meetings and helps with the family business. She keeps him balanced, but that will be after my father decides he wants to step down.” Isaiah said, shocking me with what he just said. What did he mean I was the next in line to be Luna? What happened to the previous Luna? Was that his mom?
“Come on, let's head downstairs. My father is actually waiting as well.” Isaiah said, getting off the bed, but when he mentioned Mercury I felt as my face turned pale.
“What’s wrong?” Isaiah asked, looking at me strangely.
“Well, yeah, about that. Isaiah, I don’t think your dad likes me very much.” I replied, feeling bad about yelling at him when he had done nothing wrong. This was between Isaiah and I, but I yelled at him and blamed him as well.
“Why do you think that?” Isaiah asked, opening the bedroom door.
“Well, hmmm, because I yelled at him telling him that you couldn’t force me to stay here and then he yelled at me saying that if I wanted to leave then I should leave.” I replied, but Isaiah started laughing.
“That doesn't mean he doesn't like you, that just means he's protecting his pack and family. If he didn't like you Ava then you would be down in the cells where the captives are held and trust me you do not want that.” Isaiah said as we headed downstairs. I still was unsure about seeing his dad again after I had told him off for something he hadn’t done. We headed into the family room and when we got there I saw a few new people that I hadn’t met before. I was really nervous about meeting more people, as I knew I was the outsider and I didn’t know what they were going to think of me or if they would even accept me. I had never heard of werewolves or rogues before and it made me wonder what else was out there, but it also made me wary of upsetting anyone here.
“Ava, I would like for you to meet my niece’s Polly and Nicole, they are the top trainers and they train the ones that want to be warriors or fighters. This is my nephew Joseph and he is one of the top guards and this is his mate Cora. This is my other niece Lexi, Joseph’s sister.” Isaiah said, introducing me to everyone and I was trying to remember their names, but I felt like this was just all way too much for me right now. All I wanted was my club and my home back. I had worked too hard to just let either of them go, but now I was being faced with so much more and I didn’t know which way to turn. My club had always been my happy place and had always kept me calm when I was feeling too nervous, so I decided to think about that to try and calm myself down. The main thing I kept thinking was thank God I put any money I made straight into the bank and didn’t just leave it laying around or it would have burned up the same as my club and house.
“It's a pleasure to meet you all.” I said, and then turned to face Mercury.
“Can I talk to you in private please.” I said and he nodded, stepping to one side of the room with me following behind him.
“Listen, this is all still very new to me and I feel like I’m in another world, even though I know I’m not. Mercury, I know you might not like me right now, but I wanted to apologise for yelling at you. I’m sorry.” I said, but Mercury just chuckled.
“Ava, it's fine. If you think you were bad then you should have met my wife, she would have done a lot more than just yell at me when she thought I was losing control.” Mercury replied and I nodded.
“I never said I didn’t like you, Ava, trust me if I didn’t like you then you wouldn’t be standing here.” Mercury added on and I somehow knew he was telling the truth.
“I know, Isaiah told me, but I am still sorry for yelling at you, especially when this was Isaiah’s doing and not yours.” I said, but he just laughed. Isaiah came over and held my hand, squeezing it to reassure me that everything was alright, but he still wasn’t out of my bad books yet.
“So would you like to see the rest of the house?” Isaiah asked and I just nodded, which caused Mercury to laugh again.
“Yeah, sure, I would love to.” I replied, not looking at him.
“Something tells me that you are going to have to work hard to earn her trust again.” Mercury said, shaking his head and walking away. Isaiah smiled weakly at me and then led me out of the family room to the movie room. There were beanbags and chairs spread out in the room, a huge flat screen on the wall and there was even a popcorn machine.
“Dad gets us to watch one movie a week here, even though we go into town to the movies, but it's still nice to have family time.” Isaiah said, leading us into the next room.
“This is the game room for the kids of the pack.” Isaiah said and I took a look around. I saw several pinball machines, a huge pool table and the games pacman and mrs pacman, plus several more games, there was even a skeeball machine. If I lived here I would spend most of my time here.
“Come on, we have loads more to look at. If you want we have a weights room and a nursery for the younger kids. We also have both an indoor and outdoor pool, plus training grounds as well. Would you like to watch them training?” Isaiah asked and I could tell he was anxious with how he started blabbering.
“Are you sure it's okay to do that?” I asked, still feeling unsure and he just nodded.
“Ava, you are the future Luna of this pack, yes, it's okay. You have to learn our ways anyway, plus you can train with them if you want to.” Isaiah replied, smiling. I knew he was trying to make me feel better about all this, but it was so overwhelming and I was still annoyed about what he did and didn’t do.
