Chapter 5
ALPHA BALLISTER'S POV
A mate is nothing to be happy about. A mate was my weakness, my enemy. That's what my mother had shown me. My father had been doing well until he found a mate, my mother. It was all good until it was revealed that she was a rogue, sent to destroy our pack. She had succeeded, and my father paid the price with his life. I had to fight hard to reclaim the pack, making countless sacrifices. And now, with a mate, I was going to unleash my vengeance upon her before rejecting her.
In the present, seated in the dining room were Alpha Jackson, the Alpha daughter, Gwen, and myself. Their presence barely registered in my mind. My thoughts were consumed by Edith. I pondered on how I would take her with me, claiming her as my own. The idea intrigued and excited me.
The chaos had settled down and the vampire that broke in was taken care of.
Suddenly, breaking the silence, I asked, "How much are you willing to sell Edith for?" The question shocked Alpha Jackson and irritated Gwen. They both knew that if Edith were to join me, it would be dangerous. They could see my growing interest in her, and they were rightfully concerned.
Gwen chimed in, trying to sway my decision. "Edith is a criminal. She is to be killed. There's no point in taking her," she declared, her voice dripping with venom.
Ignoring Gwen's attempt to dissuade me, I turned to Alpha Jackson and repeated the question, "How much do you want for Edith?" I could simply request he give her to me but knowing she interests me and being an Alpha king meant I had lots of enemies, they would not stop until they found a weakness, a weakness to end me and a mate was one. One I refused to let them use against me.
Alpha Jackson glanced at his daughter, witnessing her disapproval. He realized that Gwen didn't want him to sell Edith. Taking a deep breath, he responded, "I won't let Edith go. She's a criminal, and she must face the consequences."
My patience wavered, and I decided to make a threat that would shake Alpha Jackson to his core. “Refusing to give me Edith is a disrespect to me, Alpha Jackson, and let’s not forget I’m doing your pack a favor here. Who knows I might decide not to pick any pup from here," I warned, my words laced with the weight of treason.
They both fell silent as the gravity of my ultimatum settled in. Alpha Jackson's face displayed a mixture of fear and conflict. The implications of turning down my request were tremendous. Reluctantly, he agreed to give me Edith, much to Gwen's displeasure.
At that moment, I felt a rush of triumph. Edith would be mine. No matter the consequences, I was determined to have her. The thought of tormenting her before rejecting her ignited a dark satisfaction within me.
Gwen, her anger evident, could do nothing but accept the outcome. My dominance had secured my desires. Now, all that was left was to claim what was rightfully mine - Edith.

GWEN'S POV
I stormed into my room, seething with anger. Why did it seem like Edith was always winning? No matter what I did, my efforts to get rid of her were failing. This infuriated me to no end.
I couldn't stand the thought of her being close to Alpha Ballister, taking away his attention and affection that should rightfully be mine. I needed to be by his side, to seduce him, to make him mine. The power and influence I would have as his wife intoxicated my thoughts.
I shouted in frustration, feeling the walls closing in on me. In my rage, I grabbed random objects and threw them across the room, hoping to release some of the pent-up frustration. But it wasn't enough. The anger still burned inside me, fueling my determination to get rid of Edith once and for all.
As I paced back and forth, my mind raced, desperately searching for a solution. I needed to come up with something, something that would finally lead Alpha Ballister away from Edith and into my arms. But what could I do? How could I make him see that she was not the one for him?
I abruptly stopped, a sinister smile creeping onto my face. Going with Alpha Ballister, that was it! If I could be close to him, if I could be at his side, then I could gradually seduce him, whispering poison into his ear about Edith. I could expose her true colors and make him see that she was unworthy of his love.
The thought excited me, the idea of the power I would have as Alpha Ballister's Luna. It consumed my mind, clouding my judgment and fueling my determination. I couldn't let Edith stand in my way any longer.

EDITH'S POV
Seated in the dank cell, misery engulfed me. It had been three long days since my failed escape, and during every one of those days, the torture seemed endless. The silence was a constant companion, suffocating and heavy.
Suddenly, the stillness was shattered by a sinister laugh echoing through the cell. Instantly, I recognized that cruel laugh—it belonged to Gwen. She had come to gloat, to revel in my downfall.
"Well, well, well… look at you now. The mighty Alpha’s daughter, now reduced to a mere prisoner in a cell."
"Don't celebrate just yet, Gwen. I promise you, I will have my revenge." I retorted with defiance, declaring that I would have my revenge. But my words only fueled Gwen's laughter, making it grow louder and more sinister. She dismissed my threats, scoffing at the idea that I could ever regain power.
"Revenge, huh?" she jeered. "Do you really think that because Alpha Ballister wants to buy you, you have a chance at power? Don't be foolish. He merely sees you as a plaything, something to amuse himself with. After you've served your purpose, you'll be gone for good."
She continued to spew her venomous words, but I no longer heard them. My mind was consumed by thoughts of Alpha Ballister and the intensity that blazed within his eyes when he handed me back to the guards. It was a mix of anger, confusion, and something else that I couldn't decipher.
Buy me? I shook my head in denial. I wouldn’t want to go with him, to be subjected to his wrath and whatever dark plans he had in store for me. But before I could dwell on these thoughts, Gwen walked away, disappearing back into the shadows of the cell with the only sound of her footsteps echoing.
