Even if it was late summer, today the sun hid faster than it should have. The sky was covered with a thick blanket of clouds, the wind was howling announcing an upcoming storm. By the time the first drops of water started to fall, Eleanor was driving home. She felt a strange tension in the air. The storm did not seem natural to her, and the news she heard from Laura this morning continued to buzz inside her head for the whole day.
When she pulled in her driveway, Laura’s car was already parked. She must be inside. Elanor thought to herself as she took a few moments to look around before grabbing her stuff and rushing inside. She could not get rid of this feeling of being watched. But as soon as she stepped inside the house, a feel of relief washed over her. She could feel Aeolians scent all over the place. Has he visited today while she was away or was it from last night?Did she smell like him too?“Oh! I’m so glad you made it home!’Laura’s voice echoed in the empty warm house as she almost skipped towards her in a childish way. Elanor smiled softly. Laura was already comfortable in her pink pyjamas.“I arrived a while ago and took the freedom to cook something for myself. I made porridge. Do you want some?” Elanor shook her head slowly as she pulled her shoes off and set them away. “I am glad you are safe and sound. “
The two hugged.
“I’ll go shower and change into something more comfortable. You can pick a movie so we can watch together.”Elanor spoke as she walked away to the bedroom. Once inside, she was a little disappointed to find it as empty as she left it, even if she knew Aeolian had duties to attend to, she wanted him around. She checked the door of the balcony making sure it was not locked. Even if something told her to lock it, she did not. Maybe Aeolian showed up tonight and used the balcony to enter like last night.
After a short shower, the woman changed into comfortable clothes and made her way downstairs. Laura was already all cozied up , with the bowl of half eaten porridge in her lap, as she browsed through the list of movies and series they could watch together.
Elanor snuggled herself beside her friend, sniffing the porridge curiously. Human food always smelled delicious, but it was so disgusting. It had little to no taste and such weird textures. This porridge had too much cinnamon for her liking, but it smelled delicious anyway.
“Did you eat recently?” Laura asked a little absent as she read through the descriptions of the movies.“Last night. Don’t worry.” Elanor reassured her friend as her eyes searched the room.
The door was like new once again, no sign of damage. Outside the storm started to rage. The wind was roaming furiously. Tugging at everything it stood its way.The rain was pouring, cold and loud, while the sky light up with lightnings accompanied by thunders. It was a rather peculiar storm. Usually you can feel them in the morning. But this was one was sudden. Was Aeolian alright?
Elanor pulled her legs up to her chest as the movie into started, her attention switching to the screen.
Things started to get a little out of control. The pack was furious and raging, asking to go on a vampire hunt. A monster hunt, claiming that they were not safe if they did not attack. Half of the day was spent bringing peace and order, forced order. Aeolian was exhausted by the end of the day. When he walked into his bedroom, he found Marina sitting on the edge of the bed, wearing only a thing silk dress and a lace robe. Aeolian sighed deeply at the sight of the woman. “I am tired, Marina.” He muttered uneasy as he pulled off his shirt. “I know you are. I just came to keep you company. “The woman spoke as she gestured to the open door of the bathroom.”I got you a bath ready.”Aeolian did not even look at her as he pulled his pants off as well, folding them and setting them away. “I’m going to shower. In case I did not make myself clear, I am tired.” His tone was low, his voice cold and distant.
He never really appreciated her being close, but now it was even harder to stand it. He walked into the bathroom and shut the door, stepped into the shower, and allowed the hot water to soothe his muscles.
Left alone, Marina cursed under her breath. It was getting harder for her to get closer. Did he find his mate? Was she pushed away like a disposable maid? She searched for his phone. When she found it she started to search for any sort of hint of a relationship with another woman, but there was nothing. No pictures, no texts or phone calls. Nothing. Confused and unsettled, she crawled in bed and waited patiently for the man to come back.
Once clean and fresh, Aeolian dried himself and walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist. “You’re still here.” He noted out loud when he spotted her in his bed.
“Mhm. I could use some comfort. You know how much I hate storms. And this one is even worse than the others.” Marina played innocent.
Aeolian raised his brows trying to understand her small game, but he gave up very soon. It was a waste of energy. He did not care enough to do it. He made his way to the closet and pulled out underwear and a clean shirt to sleep in. With his back turned to the woman, he dressed absent.“I would appreciate if you would leave me alone for the night.” The man spoke as he walked back in the bathroom to brush his teeth.
Marina huffed and stiffened.“Don’t make me repeat myself." Aeolian growled, his alpha command shaking Marina to her core. Her eyes widened for a moment. It was not the kind of dominance she expected from him, but she complied. She hurried out of the room, leaving the man alone.
After a few minutes, Aeolian crawled into the bed, covering himself slowly. There were many thoughts inside his head, as his eyes closed. He could not leave. There were too many eyes on him, waiting for him to make a wrong move. But as his eyes closed and his mind started to become more steady, the picture of Elanor’s house popped in his mind. He could feel danger all around. A cold shiver run down his spine and he got up to grab his phone and text her.
I am an i***t. He thought to himself as he realised he did not have her number. How could he check on her?!
In a rush, the man pulled up a pair of pants, a coat and his shoes and rushed out of the room, not noticing the red haired woman stalking him from the shadows.
"Laura, we can't keep watching The notebook, the 3rd time tonight. I had enough the first ten times we watched his together!" Elanor complained to her sniffling friend as she handed her another napkin to blow her nose.
Laura nodded in agreement.
"But i love this movie so much!"
"You love to suffer, that's what you love!" Elanor muffled as she got up and walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
As she filled her glass, a loud knock on the door made her stiffen and turn around immediately, her eyes going black ready to defend her friend if needed. But the scent that embraced her, calmed her down immediately. Much to Laura's panic and disagreement, Elanor walked to the front door and opened it. In front of her, Aeolian was standing tall and dripping wet.
"Did you walk all the way here?" Elanor muttered.
Aeolian shook his head and launched himself forward, capturing the woman into a tight embrace against his wet clothes.
"I run." he muffled into her neck.
A loud yelp was heard as she felt his arms capture her. She did not expect that. Less did Laura, who was starring at the two with wide eyes and way too many questions.
Aeolian set the woman back on her feet and stepped inside closing and locking the door behind him.
"I had a feeling I had to be here tonight... " He muttered looking at Elanor before turning to Laura with a charming smile.
"I don't think i ever got to introduce myself. Im Aeolian Corvin." the man introduced himself.
"No.. i dont think we ever had the chance..." she muffled, her eyes moving back to her dear friend.
"I'll explain you sometime else" Elanor excused herself a little ashamed. She always told Laura everything, but she did not want to share this one with her.
"Elanor, do you mind if i go change upstairs?" Aeolian asked.
Elanor gestured for him to go ahead and do whatever he wanted.
As he rushed upstairs, the man understood the reason he felt danger. The door of the balcony was opened. There was a slight trace of an unfamiliar scent, barely there at this point. Did Elanor not feel it? Or was it someone she knew?
Was Elanor hiding something from him?
