(THIRD PERSON’S POV)
It was like the room had been frozen the minute the two were introduced to their newly found connection. It was no more feisty chick and annoying stranger. It was now tutor and student. Both turned away from each other now and the principal of Starsvalley, Mr Kay looked like he was in a little bit of shock and confusion. (Okay, not a little bit)
He had not expected that both children will burst out the way that they did. Viola’s voice of course had been louder with her repeating the tutor part while Charles Dalton had asked for what the principal had said to be repeated.
“Is there a problem?” Mr Kay asked looking from girl to boy. Both had theirs heads bowed down slightly probably in shock of their own outburst. “Do you both know each other?” He went further to ask.
“What? No? We don’t.” Viola said hurriedly and very firmly. Then she stole a glance from the boy beside her.
“We don’t sir. How could we possibly do?” He said and Viola thought she could hear sarcasm in his voice.
It was a good thing Mr Kay did not have an idea that sarcasm was the tone for his sentence.
“Viola.” Mr Kay began as he put his hand forward. “Thos exchange program is as well as important to the community, very important to this school. Now I know that this might be challenging to you but I assure that Mr Dalton here is a very calm person. He is also very smart so we would just need you to offer him your guidance on our curriculum and assistance in his weaknesses.”
The room was silent again and Viola tried to steal another glance from her new student but she could not and so she returned her gaze to Mr Kay.
“How about you excuse us Mr Dalton. I said I’ll see you after school. Do not forget.” Mr Kay said.
Viola noticed his stiff nod response and then he was out of the office. Then and Kay turned to Viola and spread his arms wide in a way to say she could have the floor now.
“Mr Kay, I am not sure that I am the best person for this. There are so many other bright and-“ but Mr kay would not even allow her to finish her sentence. He was already shaking his head and disapproving with what she had to say.
“You are the best for this Viola and you have to know that.” He argued spreading his arms wide as if that would give him an extra point on his side.
“Mr Kay I am very flattered but some of my skills are not-“ He still did not let her say what she wanted to.
“You are our potential student body president. I know you have intentions of running. I also know you have intentions of going to Ivy League colleges so you could think of how this would look for you.” He said to her raising his eyebrow at her as if he just gave her a very big secret.
At this point, Viola did not know why she did not want to take the job. She was not scared of him was she? She did not know? Perhaps she was just no comfortable. Asides from the fact that the first encounter that they had was very annoying, this biker made her to fell uncomfortable in a kind of strange way and she hated it. But she also feared that she looked very scared of him now as she tried to push this away. She also hated that he did not say anything, he was just seated there with his eyes on God knows what. And above all, she had to admit it herself that Mr Kay was right. This would look very good with college applications.
“But I understand that you might be worried or so. So except you want time to think about this?” Mr Kay started saying and Viola did not like how it made her sound like she was scared of the biker or something of that sort. She did not want him to think that.
“It is fine. Mr Kay. I an under the schools’ tutoring program. It is what I do. I just was not sure that with this year and my election coming up that I would want to take it on.” I said making an attempt to patch the way I had been so against this idea. “But it is okay.”
“It is okay? You’ll do this?” Mr Kay repeated.
Viola wanted to know why Mr Kay was so surprised now that she was agreeing when he was the one who brought down the pressure. She was not able to say a word to him and so instead she just nodded her head to tell him that she agreed to do it.
“Okay. I would like to see you both after school. Separately .” He said in a matter of fact tone.
He went in to saying some things about the tutoring and then he let Viola go. She had just closed the door behind her and then she turned around and saw the biker starring at her. She gasped jumping back.
“Did you take it?” He asked his voice low and soothing in a way.
“Yeah.” Viola said boldly.
To her surprise, the biker looked like he was angry about that but he said nothing and he only stood starring at Viola.
“So when do we meet?” She asked him trying to ease the tension in the awkward silence.
But the biker turned around and started waking away.
“Charles!” Viola called after him. He stopped and she stopped too. Then he turned to her.
“It’s Charlie.” He said and then with that he turned around and continued walking till he was out of sight.
Viola looked at him unsure of what to even thin. Was he leaving school? He was walking away. What kind of boy was he? How was she going to tutor someone like him?
“f**k!!” Viola cursed to herself as she walked to her class. Why the hell did she agree with Mr Kay! Damn!
