(CHARLIE’S POV)
I walked down the halls making sure that I was going the right way. It would be f****d up
If I get lost somewhere in these balls. I had tried my best to take note of the routes even though I had followed it just once when the Mayor brought me in this morning. I remember how I felt when I first stepped in to the school. It was just like I had imagined. Starsvalley high was a very big, neat and organized school even though it’s students were not really organize which was the normal way for high school students. I admired the structure of the school, it showed that the school had been built ages ago.
The school looked very different from the high school back at the gang community. There were graffiti on the wall, stickers on our lockers and tables. And chewing gum stuck on so many places. Here the lockers were so neat and organized and now that everyone except me was in the classroom, it looked even cleaner. I just rounded the corner when I came to a stop immediately , a boy was standing just there and he had what looked like a small notepad in his hands. I shook my head in disbelief there was no way this was who I thought he was.
“I am the hall monitor.” The boy said to me.
Yes I was right. His eyes moved over me in surprise and I could see that he was interested in the serpent drawing on the shoulder of my jacket. That probably gave him an idea of who I was. I cleared my throat and he in turn jumped up, startled.
“You- you’re the exchange student. The biker.” The boy said to me in a whisper that was loud enough for me to hear.
I did not confirm that for him. “Are you going to book me a ticket or whatever? Or am I allowed to pass.” I said starring in to his eyes directly .
It was the hall monitor’s turn to clear his throat and move aside for me to pass. That did it. Without even trying, I had scared him. I nodded my head at him just as I walked past him.
He had that look in his eyes. The look that many of the kids here had when they had seen me. Surprises, amusement, wonder and of course a little but of fear. Not that Viola though. She did stutter a bit but asides that she looked unfazed. Except she was pretending not to be scared and even then she did a very good job.
I could not get her shocked face out of my head. The face she had given when she found out that she was supposed to be my tutor. I hope she doesn’t think that I look forward to it either. Because I do not.
Viola.
So, that’s her name.
It sounded like the name for some sort of a Princess or whatever. But she did look like a Princess with her long beautiful hair. Her hair.
I stopped short just in front of the entrance of the school so that I could catch my breath. What the f**k was happening? Why was I thinking about this annoying chick? And why did I think she was annoying? Maybe because she looked really against tutoring me and I am totally against her tutoring me. She has a sharp mouth and she seems to be full of herself too. I am totally not looking forward to whatever it is that I had to put up with.
With one last glance around, I hurried up and made it out of the school before the principal or one of the lame teachers called me back to ask why I was leaving. Once I was eaten and rested with some fresh air, then I could return back to this fairy tale school and deal with what I have to deal with. Or who I have to deal with.
Walking the streets of this town felt very strange. Everyone was smiling and moving about and there was something extra bright about everything that they did and how they looked. I wondered if the mayor would see me or perhaps Mr or Mrs Cole. I was not scared of them but I was not interested in any run ins and so I wore my baseball cap properly as I kept walking.
I was looking for somewhere that I could eat my breakfast and for a moment I thought of going to the secret hideout where I met Viola. But then I thought that I did not want to be reminded of her at this moment. When I got to the center of the town, I saw a burger shop and even though it was close to the spot where I saw Viola this morning on my way, it was still better since she was not in it.
I crossed the street quickly and walked in to the shop. The doorbell jingled as I opened and closed the door. The place was scantily filled with people who did not really care about who was coming in.
There was no one behind the when I got there and I wondered if I noticed anyone when I walked in. I sat on one of the stool dropping the packaged food that Mrs Cole had given to me this morning.
Not long after, someone hurried in saying,
“Good morning! Yes what will you have si-?” The young man who came around the counter wiping his hand with a towel. He looked me over quickly and I could see that his face was creased up in worry with his eyes settling on my black jacket that was dropped on the table.
“I want a drink to go with what I have.” I said to him waving the brown package.
“And what kind of drink will you have?” The guy said eyeing me with suspicion as his eyes moved from me to the package.
It pissed me off.
“Maybe I will have an iced tea.” I said to him stone faced.
There was a pause.
“Okayy.” He said but he did not leave , instead he eyed me suspiciously again.
“I have money.” I said with a growl and at him and when he still wouldn’t move, I brought out my wallet and waved it in front of him for a second before returning it to its position. I felt insulted and very angry. So just because he could see who I was, he thought that I could not afford to eat here.
“No offense but we may have had some experiences. Your iced tea will be ready in a few minutes please.” The annoying busboy said with some kind of sass before disappearing in side.
I wished I could punch off the silly look that was on his face. But if I did that, I would be in a lot of trouble. Ted will make sure to kill me for messing up his plans and all because I could not ignore a silly busboy. That would be so stupid!
I was already eating one of Mrs Cole’s delicious sandwiches when the busboy returned with my iced tea. He placed it on the table just right in front of me and then just as he was about to leave he said
“Also that is usually not allowed here. You eat only what you buy in this place.” He said and before I could give him a spiteful comment that showed how I felt he had gone away.
I stopped a little, looking after at him and then decide that I would just find a way to ignore him. I focused on my food and then when I was done in no time, I dropped the money on the table. As I stood up to leave, Mr Annoying hurried back out and then stopped short when he saw the money on the table. I knew that he thought I was taking off without paying him. That just showed what these people thought about the biker gang community. They thought we were only thieves and bad people. Well I would not say that they are completely wrong. We may have not put up a good image to be honest.
As I strolled out of the shop quickly, I stood outside looking around the way I was did because I was being cautious. The streets looked a lot less busier than it had been now and I guess it was a morning thing that time. Taking a deep breath, I took the walk back to school. I wished that I had my bike, I did not really enjoy walking at this point but now that I know the way to school, I guess that I can do that now that I knew the way to school.
I did not realize that I had spent much time till I sneaked back in to the school and realized that It was time for break or so and so more students were out and everywhere.
Every corner that I looked from where I was there were teenagers around. It was also very noisy and it was hard for me to think that this was the same place that I had just left an hour ago or so. I lingered around at first watching as different kids walked around doing different kinds of things. I had to admit that it was fascinating the way they all looked like spilt kids. With a shrug and as I straightened my posture and my shoulders, I walked in rn the crowd noticing the eyes that followed me.
