(THIRD PERSON’S POV)
Charlie’s morning did not start like regular mornings. How could it be so when he was not even sure that he knew where he was? That was his first impression on waking up on Monday morning even though this was his second morning here in starsvalley. He had totally forgotten that he was not with the gang and so when he woke up and saw his surroundings he was confused to say the least. He was here in the stupid boring and old town and he was in the room that looked like it was for someone’s daughter. To make things worse, A giant tabby cat had been starring at him when he woke up.
Charlie held its gaze for a while scared of the unmoving animal. He noticed that the door was locked. He wondered how it got in. Perhaps it was here because the Coles’ had dropped it expecting it to wake him up. That was crazy. Besides that he was anything, Cole was not a late morning person. He could get up as early as possible. He woke up by 6 this morning and even that was late for him and he blamed it on the fluffy princess mattress that he was sleeping on.
But he still dragged his body out of bed and did the regular sit ups and stretches. As he worked out, he looked out the window. There was a very good view of the town here and Charlie felt the serenity just by looking at it. He went out the window and sat on the sill while he smoked his morning cigarettes from there. It was giving him peace like he never knew. The town looked fake. It looked like it was from a storybook of some sort.
After he had sat down there for some time, Charlie decided that he would get ready for school. He wished he could pretend like he did not know that but he did too. And no matter how much he hated that he had to start going to school here, he had no choice. Ted had made him know that very well. So while Charlie dressed up for school he tried not to think of what kind of environment he would be getting himself in to now. This had to be the worst part of this ‘job’ for him. He could stay here living like a ghost till the period of time elapses but no he had to attend the same school with them. Where they probably taught nursery rhymes to rich and spoilt brats.
But as he thought of meeting people in school, he thought of the feisty chick at the riverside on Saturday evening. For some reason there was some excitement surging through his chest. He almost looked forward to going to school if it got him a chance to see that girl again. It was not like he liked this girl or anything. Not at all. He was just intrigued and felt like seeing her a second time would be cool. If she did not truly know who he was then she would know soon.
Charlie was done getting ready for school and he was listening to rock music on his headphones when there was heavy knocking on the door.
“Are you in there boy?” It was Mr Cole who was speaking. He had been knocking softly for a while and because he got no response, he kind of panicked for a while. So hence he was forced to knock more loudly and he was just planning on breaking in to the room when the door opened and the sandy blonded teenager had his head poked around the door. His headphones were worn around his neck and Mr Cole realized why he had to knock for a while.
“Good morning Charlie.” He said mustering up a smile.
Charlie did not smile back but he nodded at Mr Come stiffly and muttered. “Good morning.” Loud enough for both of them to hear.
Knowing that the boy liked to keep to himself, Mr Cole inwardly awarded himself a good note with that. At least the boy said good morning.
“You can come down for breakfast.” He said.
The day before they had invited the boy for breakfast and he had refused to come and eat. Mr Cole had a feeling that he was going to do the same again.
“Nah. I’m good.” He said nodding his head.
Mr Cole wanted to say more, like to tell the boy that he was going to school and so it would be nice for him to have breakfast before going out. But he was not sure how to put it so he decided he would agree with the boy and then go downstairs to report to his wife.
And so after a “very well. We would be downstairs if you change your mind.” Then he left and went straight to tell his wife that he did not think the young man was coming for breakfast .
Charlie on the other hand did feel hungry but he was not going to join them sitting at the their table. Perhaps during school he could bunk off and go find somewhere with burgers or so.
He wished he had just asked for directions to the school so that he could go on his own but No he had to wait for Mr John Rogers to take him personally to the school principal. What a celebrity he was!
Charlie was just contemplating finding his way by sneaking out when another knock came at his door. He had his earphones down and so he could hear clearly. He went to the door and then he saw that it was Mrs cole looking ever happy.
“Good morning Charlie.” She greeted and then without giving him the opportunity to answer her good morning she pressed in to his hands a bag of brown paper. “There you go!”
She said smiling. “I think you have to have something in your stomach before you go to school. And if you don’t feel like it now then you could just do that later.”
Charlie was trying to process what was happening when he heard the sound of a car downstairs. Mrs Cole’s eyes lit up and she snapped her fingers.
“That must be the Mayor dear. He called to say he would be here soon. Well it is a good thing you’re all ready.” She said and then before turning around she said, “we will be expecting you downstairs okay?”
And with that she had hurried downstairs to welcome the visitor. Charlie stood holding the brown paper bag. He peeped in to it and saw that she had carefully arranged food for him and he wanted to laugh about it. He wondered what the guys at the gang would say to him about it. They would call him a Princess. With a shrug, Charlie went downstairs and before time went by, he was already in the car with the mayor and he was on his way to school.
The mayor spoke about many things, none of which Charlie really listened to. He was busy starring out the window watching as the people went about their daily lives. And then he caught a whiff of black hair which struck a bulb in his brain. Just as the car drove by, he saw her again. The feisty Chick.
She had her hair in a high ponytail and even though he could not see her face very closely, he knew she was the one. She was walking beside another girl who had long blonde hair. But even then his eyes wandered to the girl with the long black hair. The fiesty chick. He watched her movements in the car and wondered whether it was fate that he got to see her now after thinking about her so much.
“Are you going my way?” He whispered lowly so low that it was loud enough for only him to hear as the car drove by.
