(THIRD PERSON’S POV)
The house of the couple that Charlie was staying with was nice and cozy. An older couple who went by Mr and Mrs Cane. John Rogers, the mayor of Starsvalley gave them a proper introduction after the meeting at the town hall. That was before Ted and the other bikers had gone.
“Stay safe. Watch your back.” Ted had told Charlie and then giving him a look that sent signal to Charlie, he wore his helmet and was driving away with the others.
They didn’t even wait to get to know where he would be staying. It was a good thing the Coles did not look evil. They looked very kind and patient and loving like the kind that was read about in story books. Well, Charlie thought, maybe that was why they had no kids. Maybe having kids would change them from being this way. Parents never truly cared about their kids.
This pair let Charlie in with obvious open arms. They did not even seem to mind that he was a biker. Perhaps they were only doing this so that they could feel like they were helping him out like charity or something. Charlie pitied them then if that was the case.
They had even cleaned out a nice and clean room for him and Charlie did feel a little bit touched when he saw it. But that did not mean that anything about him had changed. He would be damned! He had something to do here and once he was done, he was out.
When Charlie came back from reading by the quiet riverside, food was set and they seemed to expect him to come and join them at the table. But Charlie was too awkward about it.
He shifted from foot to foot.
“Oh I get it.” Mrs Cole said with a warm smile and then she raised a finger as if to say “excuse me” then she disappeared in to the kitchen. She returned to the table with a tray and with that she placed everything for Charlie on the tray before turning around and handing it to him.
“We would love to have you at the table with us.” She said still smiling kindly. “But we understand that things are still new to you and so we just hope that you get comfortable soon.”
Charlie looked at them with his eyebrow raised as he stood frozen to the ground. What was it with these people? Did they have a game plan just like Ted had? Why were they acting so nice?
“Uh- yh. Thanks.” Charlie mumbled he hoped was loud enough for them to hear and then he left the dinner room and headed upstairs to his room.
Maybe they would change their minds by next morning and send him out kicking him back to then mayor’s office. Then he could be sent back to the gang and back to his old school.
But that would mean that he would not get to see the chick who he had seen earlier today. Charlie sat down calmly on the bed setting the tray out beside him and as he looked out of the window he recounted the event that had happened today.
He had only excused himself rudely from a tour of the Canes’ house telling them that he needed fresh air. He had gone there to chill out and read and then she had come bouncing along with that beautiful hair of hers. She had not even given him time to look at her well enough. She had caught him off guard and was just ranting at him.
No girl dared talk that way to Charlie. He never threatened women but truly they never confront him the way she did. That was new and very surprising.
As he lit a cigars, Charlie wondered if she would be in the same school with him. Well of course she should. They all went to school here, compulsorily and the same school too. He wondered what her name was. Then he stopped himself. It was not in his place to wonder.
Yet he somehow could not help but wonder to himself when he would see this girl again.
