-Genesis
"You already have fans," Ella smirked. She was looking at me from the side mirror.
"I am pretty sure he was just attracted to my fairy half."
"Not possible," Xander said out of the blue and my eyes turned to him.
"What does that mean?" Ella asked and he looked at her twice before answering.
"He is also half-fairy, half-wolf. He could not have been manipulated by Genesis. It is impossible."
"How come I did not know that there are others like me at Bells?"
"He applied for the job a couple of weeks ago. I looked into him and found out about it."
"Don't you think he is going to manipulate others?"
"No, Ella. I had him block the fairy part. It would be unprofessional."
"You had him block it? Why didn't you make me block my fairy part?"
"Because I have known you since you were a kid and I know what you are and are not capable of."
"Thank you for trusting me."
"Why isn't Genesis part of your pack?" Ella asked and it caught me by surprise.
"I wanted her to be part of the pack. She didn't."
"Why not?" She turned around to look at me.
"Everyone knows fairies are not reliable. Everyone hated me and I didn't want my work life to be a disaster too."
"Too? What haven't you told me about your personal life? Did someone mistreat you? Xander, did you know about this?"
"Please, stop worrying about me. You are going to stress the baby."
"Ella, some things are best kept between the Alpha and his pack members. Even if she is not an official member of the pack, she is one of us. I don't want you worrying about this and I don't want you asking Genesis or anyone else about it. Leave it be."
"Of course. I am sorry," she said quickly and I put my hands on her shoulders.
"Thank you for worrying. But it is not worth it anymore. It is in the past."
She didn't quite agree with that but she let it go.
"So. Let's get back to Genesis and Paul," Ella seemed to enjoy the fact that I was asked out.
"We don't need to. Besides, the Alpha doesn't need to listen to this nonsense."
He didn't say anything which proved my point.
"Fine. Are you excited about your first day at work?"
"Very. So, who will be working at the Café?"
"I already have people there. I want you working at the library. Tomorrow we have two important meetings with publishing companies. Jar's Publishing and The Pirates. The Pirates publish children's books. They are not wildly popular, but I want to give small businesses a chance. We have a small business ourselves so there is no harm in helping each other. Jar's Publishing, on the other hand, publishes school books. If we sell those, we could make a good profit. The day after tomorrow we have a meeting with a Manga publisher. I happen to know that Mangas are quite popular these days and it would be a great idea to sell those."
"That is amazing. When did you manage all that?" I sounded surprised because she has been at home this whole week. Hasn't she?
"Xander took me shopping a couple of days ago and we decided to visit a bookshop so I could buy some children's books for the baby and I saw that The Pirates had published a very interesting book with short beautiful stories. I will show you the book later. It is in my office. It was amazing. That is when I decided to give them a call. They seemed very interested so I set up a meeting."
"That must have felt good," I said, quite impressed.
"It did. My first attempt at doing something for a job that I like. I hope it turns out well."
"Of course it will," Xander took Ella's hand in his and kissed it.
"I am proud of you," he sounded most sincere.
I wish I had someone like Xander in my life.
"We are almost there."
My first day at work. Louis would be proud of me.
I suppress the memories I have of Louis. If I think about him too long, I start crying and trembling and the guilt starts eating me from the inside.
Why did you have to rescue me, Louis?
Tears pricked my eyes and I looked out of the window, away from Xander and Ella's eyes.
This past week has been very emotional for me. Everything triggers me lately. Every small thing.
The car stops and I look outside the left window and see that we have arrived.
"You ladies go inside. I will park the car."
"See you in a bit," Ella gave him a quick kiss.
I climbed out first, then helped Ella out of the car. It looks like she is getting bigger by the hour.
"I need to use the bathroom. The baby is kicking my bladder again."
"Do you want to wait for Xander to help you inside?"
"If I stay here another minute, I will make it rain in front of the people."
Skye and Sabrina were right behind us.
"We are not waiting for the guys?" Skye asked and Ella explained that she had to use the restroom.
"Of course."
Sabrina opened the front door and let Ella walk in first.
The lobby is very big. Its walls are painted to look like bookshelves. This is amazing.
The receptionist saw us and smiled.
"Mrs Walson, it is nice to have you back. You must be Miss Martin," she looked at me and I nodded.
"How do you know me?"
"I read your CV."
"Oh," I managed to say and she started talking to Sabrina and Skye.
"While you talk to Flora, I have to use the restroom."
"I'll go with you," I said quickly.
"Not necessary. Get acquainted," she pointed to all of us and left for the restroom.
"Are you friends of Mrs Walson?" Flora asked and looked particularly at me.
"Yes. Her husband and my fiancé are very close friends."
"Oh. Date of the wedding?"
"Next Tuesday."
"Oh, in a few days. Congratulations."
"Thank you," Skye seemed to enjoy every wedding-related conversation lately.
"Ah, there he is now," Skye pointed at Ben, who just walked through the door with Xander beside him.
"Sweet Jesus," Flora whispered and Skye nodded.
"Girl, you are so lucky. If he were single, I would be wrapping myself around him like grapevines."
"That's what I did," Skye suppressed a grin.
I can't listen to them talk about Ben anymore.
It just hurts too much.
"Flora, would you mind showing me my office?" I asked as politely as I could and to my luck, she showed me the way.
"I am thrilled to be working with you. I have heard a great deal about you. Mrs Walson didn't spear a single detail."
"Mrs Walson overestimates me."
"I doubt it. She speaks very fondly of you."
"She is very nice. She speaks fondly of everyone."
"She said you would do that," she smiled and I frowned.
"Here we are. This is your office, Miss Martin."
I opened the door to the office, which had my name on it and walked in.
There is a big rectangular wooden desk in the middle of the office, with a laptop and flowers on top of it. On the left side of the desk, there is a printer and on the right side of the desk, a coffee machine.
Behind my desk chair, there is a bookshelf with empty binders.
"It is perfect," I murmured.
"Mrs Walson wanted you to finish decorating your office. Everything you need, colour samples, carpets, chandelier and so on, is inside this binder on your top desk drawer," she said and took it out of the desk drawer.
"You also need a telephone. It will be installed today. I already arranged an appointment. If you ever need anything, please let me know."
"Thank you so much, Flora."
"I have to head back to my desk."
She closed the door behind her and I was left alone in my office.
