My phone kept ringing nonstop, and there were text messages from both Adam and Serena.
I just ignored them. I couldn’t believe, that the two people I trusted the most, had betrayed me like this. As I walked down the street, I walked in to a hotel and I saw they had a bar.
I decided to go in and get a quick shot. This day couldn’t have gone any worse. I suddenly felt as if someone was watching me, but my head and body felt so numb, that I didn’t care.
After a while, someone came over and sat beside me.
“Two shots please.” I heard a woman order. She leaned in and looked at me, as I was pitying myself.
“Rough day?” she asked as she pushed one of the shots to me. I gave her a weak smile as a thanks.
“You could say that!” She nodded at my answer.
“Clarissa.” She greeted as she bought two more shots. She somehow had a vibe telling, that I could trust her. I told her about what had happened since yesterday and until now.
“Wow, what a douchebag.” She proclaimed. I chuckled a bit.
“Yeah, the worst part is, that I thought he loved me, and I moved here because of him, and now I don’t have anywhere to go.” I regretfully sighed. She nodded her head as she was thinking.
“What about, I go help you get your stuff, and then you can stay with me for a while.” She smiled. I looked surprised as I faced her.
“Do you really mean that, you will take me there?” I asked her.
“Yeah.. Well, no I can’t drive, cause I have been drinking, but my driver surely will!” She started laughing and so did I. This girl was really funny, and she seemed as a good person..
As we came to the house, I started getting worried, I would rather not face Adam right now, but I had to get my stuff. I surely wasn’t coming back.
“Do you want me to come with you?” Clarissa asked me. I breathed out heavily.
“Nah, I have to do this on my own, but thank you.” I gratefully said.
“It means a lot” I told with a teary voice. She laid her hand on mine.
“Hey, no problem, girl!” She winked and smiled at me. She somehow seemed familiar, but I couldn’t lay a finger on it right now. As I walked in, the door opened. Adam looked sad, but it only seemed pathetic to me.
“Cath, I’m so sorry for what happened earlier.” He apologized as he tried to hug me, but I pushed him away.
“No Adam! What you did was not okay!” I walked past him, in to the house. He followed me up the stairs, as I found my still unpacked suitcase.
“I know Cath, but I promise you, it will not happen again.” He begged, as I turned to leave. I ran down the stairs as he still was following me, he suddenly grabbed my arm.
“Will you stop and listen to me, for f*ck sake!” He suddenly yelled. I turned to face him. He looked mad, but so was I.
“I was done listening to you the moment you laid your hands on me, Adam!” I spat at him. I started feeling the tears build up in my eyes.
“Now let me go!” I hissed, trying to yank my arm free, but he tightened his hold.
“No, I will not let you leave!” he argued. Suddenly, his eye widened.
“Do we have a problem here?” Clarissa and the driver were standing in the door opening. Clarissa looked threatening, as she stared him dead in the eye.
“No problem at all!” Adam suddenly stated as he let go of me and stepped back.
“Good! Come Cathy!” Her face suddenly changed. I turned to look at Adam, who was glaring at me. We walked out and sat in the car. I sighed relieved.
“Thank you, Clarissa, I don’t know what I would have done without your help.” I thanked. She just smiled at me, as she told the driver to go.
“No problem, and please just call me Cassy.” I nodded as I smiled. I was thrilled that I had met Clarissa. She was the closest thing to a friend I’ve got in this miserable town. Hopefully, I could leave it soon. But first I had to quit my new job.
[Next day]
We arrived home late at Clarissas home. She had told me she lived with her parents.
As I woke up and was looking at the clock, I was shocked that it was only 5.30 am. I was awakened by a lot of noise from downstairs. I quickly got clothes on and walked down to see what was going on.
“What were you thinking, Cassy, bringing her here at all places!?” I heard a woman scold.
“What was I supposed to do, just leave her with that asshat!?” Clarissa’s voice argued.
“Language Cassy!” I heard a manly voice scold.
“I know, sorry, dad.” I heard Clarissa apologize. If I had known she would get in trouble for bringing me here, I wouldn’t have come in the first place.
“I apologize, you don’t have to get mad at Clarissa, she was just helping me, having a place to stay for the night.” I interrupted, as I walked down in to the living room. They turned around looking surprised, but then they smiled at me.
“Don’t you worry, dear.” Her mom came over to me smiling. She gave me a hug.
“Come and get something to eat, you must be starving!” She stated as she gently pushed me to the kitchen. The kitchen was huge. And there were plenty of people. Many of them stopped eating and looked right at me.
“This is Clarissa’s friend Cathrine, please be nice to her, everybody.” Her mom stated, and people nodded and started eating again.
“Who are all these people?” I whispered at Clarissa as she came sitting next to me.
“Family!” She said nonchalant and shrug her shoulder, as she avoided any other question about it. I narrowed my eyes a bit at her, as I started eating at the plate her mother had placed in front of me. It seemed like more than one family to me. There were both men and women, and some of them had kids. As I was done, I walked to the open door, as people started walking out and others came in. A big group of men came running from the woods without shirts. A big man stopped in front of them.
“Good training guys, now go get something to eat!” He yelled. I, somehow, I got a weird feeling. It was like I was drawn to him and a familiar scent hit me. The moment he turned around, I almost got a heart attack. He looked right at me, and he clearly seemed surprised as well.
“Chase!” I heard Clarissa chuckle, as she jumped him. It startled him, as he had focused on me.
“Cassy, what are you doing?” He asked her. He seemed worried, for some reason.
“I see you met my new friend, Cathrine,” she beamed. His eyes went from confusion to shock.
“You brought her here!?” He replied, looking directly at her. I felt like I was doing something wrong, so I quickly turned around and ran inside. As I ran back in, I heard Chase and Clarissa were calling my name, but I didn’t stop, neither did I pay attention to my surrounding, so when I suddenly, hit someone, I fell to the ground.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to..” But I immediately stopped talking, when I looked up from the grown and saw it was Brad who was standing there together with Kris and Lucas. Sh*t! What the hell were they doing here? As he looked at me, I saw he had a Black eye.
My heart was speeding as the memories from a few days before caught up with me. I was pressing my eyes hard together. Was I really having a panic attack right now??
Next thing I know, I was laying on a white bed, it looked like a clinic or something. I saw Clarissa and Chase were arguing, still believing I was a sleep.
“What were you thinking?” Chase growled. Clarissa crossed her arms.
“You weren’t there to see how broken she was, I couldn’t just leave her like that!” She hissed lowly.
“And I can’t believe you haven’t told her yet, if it had been me...” Suddenly, Dr. Canis walked in.
“I see you are awake, Mrs. Rees.” He interrupted. Both Clarissa and Chase turned to look at me. They both seemed concerned about me. I didn’t say anything, and I just nodded at him.
“You had a small panic-attack, which caused you to pass out. Seen in the light of these past days events, it doesn’t surprise me, that your body shut down from all the stress.” He stated. Looking at me and then at Chase. Chase took a step towards me, but stopped as he saw me tense a bit.
“Chase and Clarissa, she needs rest for a day or two, so make it quick and then let her get some sleep.” He stated before he walked out. Clarissa jumped to my arms and hugged me.
“Cathy, I’ve been so worried, are you okay?” She asked. Looking into my eyes.
“I’m fine.” I stated quickly as I shifted my eyes to Chase.
“But I can’t help but feel like a joke, why didn’t you tell me you know Chase, and what are Brad and the others doing here!?” I felt like it all was some kind of set up, and somehow I am in the middle of it.
“I’m sorry Cathy, I didn’t want to lie, but it wasn’t my place to tell you.” Clarissa apologized. She turned her eyes to Chase. He sighed as he sat down on the end of the bed.
“Can we have a moment alone, Cassy?” He pleaded as he looked at Clarissa, she nodded and gave me a quick hug and then walked out the room. There was a moment of silence, before he started out.
“At first, Clarissa is my sister.” I looked shocked at him, but it would explain why she seemed so familiar.
“So you get people to stalk me now?” I spat. I was beginning to get angry. Even though I loved Clarissa, and their parents seemed really nice too, I couldn’t help but feel like it all was one big act.
“No! No, it’s not like that, I was just worried about you, and I wanted to know how you were doing. I didn’t know she would bring you here and..” he suddenly paused. He didn’t even know what to say.
“So I wouldn’t find out that your secret source tried to r**e me!?” I yelled as I raised from the seat.
“Well, let me make this easy for you, I’ll leave, and you will not have any problems anymore.” But as soon I stood up, my legs collapsed under me. Chase quickly caught me before I hit the floor. Yet, the moment he touched me, I felt every fiber in my body was shooting fireworks. He looked into my eyes as his breath became heavy. His green eyes suddenly shifted to a dark honey brown. I licked my lips. I felt like I were in no control of my body.
“You feel that?” He whispered through his husky breath. I nodded without uttering a word. He suddenly put his head closer to mine, as if he was searching for any reaction.
As his lips touch mine, my whole body screamed in pleasure. Like it had been starving forever. I never felt this way, when I had kissed Adam. I didn’t want it to end.
When he pulled away, my mind was all foggy and both of us breathed heavily. He put me back down on the bed.
Even though he made me feel safe, when he was near me. I also got scared of how my body reacted towards him.
“What the hell was that!?” I blurred out.
