I woke up by a knock on the door. My head was pounding, and I was still a bit dizzy after last night.
Suddenly, it occurred to me, that I weren’t home. I was wearing a big shirt. It somehow smelt like home, but I felt a bit embarrassed, cause someone had removed my clothes, as I was sleeping. A knock landed on the door once again, and I slowly opened the door. An older lady, was standing smiling outside.
“Good morning miss, I hope you have slept well, I brought some clothes for you and there is a bathroom behind that door.” I smiled hesitantly at her as I thanked her, when I suddenly was reminded by my job. “Oh, what time is it?” I quickly asked. As I was trying to locate my phone and belongings. “It’s 06.00 am, you are probably in a rush, I’ve had your things placed in the drawer over there” she pointed across the room and I saw a ton of messages and missed calls from Serena and Adam.
“Sh*t! I have to go.” I stated as I tried to piece everything together of what happened yesterday. However, I couldn’t remember anything from after I was carried away, by the stranger, I didn’t know who was.
“Uhm, where am I exactly?” I asked the lady who came in to the room with the clothes and some towels. “At sir’s residential” she stated, as if I should know who he was. I looked at her confused as I was getting ready to ask more, she quickly cut me off by saying.
“You have to talk to Sir about it, now go get cleaned up, and I’ll prepare something for you before you’ll go.” She then walked out the room, and I sighed as I walked to the bathroom.
The bathroom was three times the normal size of my bathroom, which was huge. I turned the shower on and got myself washed off, as yesterday's events made me feel dirty. When I was done, I dried myself and took the new clothes on. My old was nowhere to be found. I put on a Little mascara and some lipstick on, that I always carried around in my purse, and then I walked out of the room.
Outside the room, there was a long corridor and as I followed it, I was hit by a delicious smell of food. I walked into the kitchen, I saw the lady cooking. Somehow she was different from all the others I had met in this town. “Mam, I was thinking..” she quickly interrupted me. “Oh, don’t mam me, just call me Charlotte!” She pouted with a smile. I could feel she was sincere, and it made me feel secure. I sat down as she placed the food and asked me to sit.
“Well Charlotte, I was thinking if you could tell me specifically where we are, I don’t know how to get from here and..” I paused and wasn’t sure what to say. “Sir has prepared a driver for you, he will drive you to your destination” she smiled at me, but I was probably more confused than before because how would he know where I was going? I decided to let it go, cause I knew she wouldn’t tell me. I started looking through my phone. A lot of the texts from Serena started out angry and then more worried, so I quickly called her, and she picked it almost immediately.
“C where the f*ck have you been? Why didn’t you text me?” She almost screamed in my ear, I wanted to just cry and tell her everything, but I didn’t want Charlotte to find out, so I blocked it out.
“I’m sorry, I’m going to tell you everything later, I promise, but I can’t right now.” I pleaded. She sighed out heavily.
“Fine! But don’t do it again, I even called Adam because I was so scared, and I never do that” she teased, I couldn’t stop myself from smiling a little bit.
“Thanks, I call you after work Sisi” and then I hanged up. I called Adam next, and he also picked the phone up quick.
“Hello, Cath, is that you!?” I could hear how worried he was, and I felt bad that I didn’t call him first.
“Hey Adam, yes it’s me, I’m sorry about al..” he quickly interrupted me.
“Where are you Cath, I have been so worried?” He questioned. I sighed and tried to explain.
“I really don’t know, but I’m getting a ride, so I’ll see you after work, okay?” I could hear he sounded tense. He was mad and I fully understood why.
“Okay, but be safe” he plainly said. He was attempting to control his anger, but I knew he was angry, and I hoped that when I had the time to explain everything, that he would understand.
“I will, bye.” I turned to eat, but I already lost my appetite.
“Thanks for the food Charlotte, but I’m not that hungry anyway” I told her. She nodded and removed the plate. Soon after, a man came into the kitchen.
“Are you Cathrine Rees” I turned my head and nodded, surely.
“I’m your driver today, and I’ll bring you to Carnivora.” I looked at him and then at Charlotte, how could they know where I was going?
“I’m sorry, but who told you that?” I asked hesitantly.
“I just got an order from my boss, miss.” He explained. Then I took my stuff and followed him.
Outside the building, there were holding a black limo and I could tell we were in a very wealthy neighborhood. He opened the door for me and as I sat down, he closed it gently.
We drove for around 20 minutes before we arrived at the Carnivora. I thanked him for the ride and walked up to the lady from yesterday. She gave me some papers.
“Mr. Lupus want you to sign this before you start working” my head was still killing me, so I quickly reviewed it and signed them. As I walked through the door to his office, I saw him sitting at his desk. He looked at me, but compared to yesterday, he now looked cold and mad. I stopped in front of him. He ignored me for some time until he was done writing.
“So you came.” He spoke, still looking mad.
“Yes, of course.” I replied. He huffed, as he raised from his seat.
“Who would know, when you go out partying on a work night?” He crossed his arms in front of him. I felt my cheeks getting warm. Do rumors really spread that fast?
“I’m sorry, Mr. Lupus, it will not happen again.” I looked down to the floor. I felt like a child getting scolded by her parents, and It was humiliating.
“Isn’t it a little too late, as they're already going rumors, about what a drunk slut my assistant is, which ruining my image, as I chose to hire you!” He hissed. I got mad because I knew that wasn’t true.
“With no disrespect, Sir, but I feel you're being unreasonable!” I bit back. He lifted an eyebrow as his face still was locked in the same posture.
“So you're telling me I’m wrong!?” I sighed heavily. This guy was impossible to work with.
“No, but I’m telling you that I wasn’t planning on getting drunk. I had one drink, and then I only had soda” I stated. He narrowed his eyes as he walked around me and stood in front of me.
“So, you're telling me, that you didn’t pass out yesterday?” His face was like stone as he waited for my response.
“Yes, I did, but..” he stopped me as he asked me a new question.
“So how can you tell me you weren’t drunk?” He growled in anger.
“I believe I was drugged!” I almost yelled. He suddenly bursted out in anger.
“Do you really think, I would believe that, when some of my most trusted people have witnessed it?” I felt my eyes were going to tear up and was getting so frustrated. But how could he trust me he barely knew me, but it made me angry, that he would call me a liar to my face.
“If you can’t even trust me, then I might as well leave right now!” I turned to leave, as I felt he grabbed my wrist. His touch made my skin sparkle. But when I met his gaze. I suddenly felt scared. I have never seen anyone that angry before, his eyes suddenly shifted. He pushed me against the wall. My heart was beating a million beats per minute, as he saw how scared I was, he seemed to calm down a bit.
“You can’t.” he pushed through gritted teeth. I tried to keep calm, but I felt the tears running down my cheeks.
“If I could somehow prove to you, I was telling the truth, I would!” I cried. His face seemed shocked for a moment. Then his face turned back to blank.
“We will see.” he turned to his desk and reach for the phone. Not long after, someone picked it up.
“Hello, can I speak to Dr. Canis” He looked me dead in the eye the whole time. A moment of silence later.
“Yeah, hello Dr. Canis, I need you to come to my office immediately!” He ordered. I was thinking for myself, who would talk to others like that. He put the phone down. He walked over, and took my hand and placed me in a chair.
“Stay!” He said, as he waited. Soon after, Dr. Canis arrived, and walked over to Mr. Lupus.
“Hello Chase, what can I help you with?” It was the first time I’ve heard anyone be on first name with him. He probably knew cause he looked at me for a moment.
“I need you to run a blood test.” Dr. Canis looked at me with a confused look on his face, and turned back to Chase.
“I want you to test her blood for alcohol and other substances.” Chase clarified, which made Dr. Canis nod before he sat down beside me.
“What is your name, miss?” I asked while preparing the needle.
“I’m Cathrine, Cathrine Rees” I answered, while looking down on my hands. Tears were still running down my face, as I couldn’t get myself to stop.
“It’s okay, it’s all done now.” He laid his hand on my arm and gave me a smile.
“How long will there go, before we get the results?” Chase asked as Dr. Canis turned around to face Chase. He seemed more formal now than before.
“In about 20 minutes, I’ll go get to it right away.” and soon after he walked out the door.
[20 minutes later]
After we had waited, Dr. Canis returned with the results.
“So.. What did you find out?” he gave Chase the results as he was clarifying what it meant.
“There was a minimal content of alcohol in her system, not enough to make her drunk.” he stated.
“But I found a high level of Rohypnol in her bloodstream” he answered. Chase looked confused.
“And what exactly is that, Dr. Canis?” he questioned, as he searched the paper for answers.
“It’s also known as a date-r**e drug.” Dr. Canis clarified, as he sent me a sad look. Chase gave Dr. Canis a nod and thanked him for coming. He then gave me a quick smile, before he walked out of the office. Chase looked at me and seemed to be confused.
“Cathrine I..” he started. But At that moment I couldn’t take it anymore. I quickly raised from the chair and walked towards the door. Though before I was able to get out, Chase quickly pushed the door closed.
“Where are you going?” He asked me, but I was unable to face him, so I stared at the door.
“I can’t be here right now.” I replied, as I was choking in my tears.
“He tried to lay a hand on me, but I took a step back.
“Don’t!” I begged, still looking away. I could feel he was worried about me, but he stepped back.
“Okay, you can go.” He spoke with a low voice. I then opened the door, as I walked out, and I continued to walk down the street. I took a cab, as I just wanted to go home.
As I finally reached the door and opened, I saw Adam. He seemed shocked as I walked in.
“What are you doing here so early?” He asked me.
“I could ask you the same.” I quickly noted, as he usually worked late. He seemed nervous as I walked in, and that’s when I noticed Serena was sitting in the living room.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her. She didn’t answer at first. When Adam interfeared.
“Can you really blame us, anything?” Adam suddenly stated angrily.
“Oh really, what have I done!?” I asked him, crossing my arms in front of me, as I was waiting for an answer. He grabbed my arm as he pulled me out to the kitchen.
“Adam stop it!” I heard Serena beg, but Adam ignored it and stopped in the kitchen.
“You really think that I’m stupid!?” He yelled. Adam and I never had a real fight, so it was the first time, I saw him this angry.
“Serena already told me how you left her, so you could be with some random guy, you’d just met!” He scolded. I was getting tired of defending myself to everybody.
“What does all this have to do with Serena?” I yelled back at him.
“Did you two f*ck or what?” I spat at him, as soon the words left my mouth, Adam's hand slapped my face.
“You did this all by yourself” he yelled at me. As I put my hand to my cheek, I turned to face him.
“For how long?” I asked. I turned to Serena, who was crying.
“It stopped 2 months ago” she cried. I looked at Adam. “Until you thought I was cheating, right?” I stated as I turned to walk away.
“You were right about one thing, Serena!” I spat as I took out the paper I got from Dr. Canis, and threw it at the table.
“I do deserve better than this!” When I grabbed the doorknob, I heard Adam ask.
“What is Rohypnol?” I shook my head, as the tears ran down my cheeks.
“Look it up, I’ll be back in a couple of hours to collect my things. I expect you two to be gone, when I do.” I answered coldly. Every part of me, felt empty at that moment.
All I wanted was to get out of there and not have to look at them anymore.
“C, I’m sorry” I heard Serena beg.
“Don’t Serena, I’m done!” I snapped. I walked out and started walking down the road. I felt lost, as I didn’t know anyone in this damn town.
