Talia had one single phone, no extras or additional, only one, and the contact was only exclusive to three people, his husband, Trevor, and the tailor. Once it rang, it was either the three of them.
Talia lightly pinched Trevor’s cheeks before walking towards Joe who had her phone.
“Who?” Talia asked casually.
Joe still had his smiling face, “The tailor Ma’am.”
“Please make sure Trevor eats his breakfast.” She said before reaching out for the phone and left the dining for a moment to take the phone. Gilda who was helping with the breakfast followed behind Talia while Joe went beside Trevor.
“Sir,”
Trevor exhaled, “Okay, okay.” Besides his mother, there’s Joe who would guard him with such ease but once he did something inappropriate or against his mother’s order, Joe could be the scariest person. With his gentle and smiling face, everyone would be tamed but once you get to know him better, he could be the person that you wouldn’t want to mess with.
Trevor lifted the fork when he suddenly heard the faint voices on the television in the living room just across from the dining, he wasn’t interested but he suddenly heard the name that has been lingering in his mind for now.
“…the kid was named Charlie.” said the anchor on one of the news stations.
“Charlie, this kid bomber escaped cause of the sudden explosion on the Police station. There’s no casualty but there are a few injured police officers as well as prisoners caused by the explosion, and it is said that the kid was the only one who managed to escape…”
Trevor suddenly stood and ran on the Television with his eyes wide open, “Charlie…that little guy…he escaped?” he muttered. He was surprised but soon realized that his lips were already smiling. A crazed expression appeared on his face.
He escaped!
But he was taken back in reality when someone stopped behind him, Trevor stiffened as his hair stood all over.
“Sir.” Joe was standing behind him, he was against the light making his whole figure dark even the smiling lips had become creepier than they had been, “Your breakfast isn’t finished yet.”
Trevor didn’t want to go against him today so he immediately stood and ran back to his chair and hurriedly ate all his food on the plate, he wanted to check on the news if Charlie did really escape alone or if someone helped him out.
He needs to investigate!
…
A sound of gasping could be heard on the wide elevator as Patricia grind herself against Cyrus who was cornered on one side. They were both intimate and close that they could make out any minute when Cyrus pushed her away, “That’s enough.” He said and fixed his disheveled clothes, brushed his hair again, and stood as if nothing happened.
Patricia who was still in heat hugged his arm, “I missed you, Sir…you didn’t contact me yesterday. I was worried.”
Cyrus didn’t reply. He took a leave yesterday because Talia left the house, leaving that naughty kid alone.
Patricia wasn’t satisfied with his cold look and was about to reach for Cyrus’s groin when the elevator made a ‘ding’ and the sliding door slowly opened. Cyrus gave a warning look to her, “Behave.”
But it even turned on Patricia even more, “Yes Sir.” she said seductively.
They both walked towards his office when they noticed that the employees were working intensely and full of focus they didn’t even take the time to greet their director. Patricia frowned, “What happened to them?”
It was only when they arrived at Cyrus' office did they noticed the great reason.
A tall man with broad shoulders and pitch black hair stood in the middle of his office. Only with his back did Cyrus and Patricia immediately realize who it was.
“S-Sir Goodhim!” Patricia exclaimed in surprise. Cyrus took a moment before greeting.
“Sir Goodhim.” He calmly greeted.
The man then slowly turned his head and saw the two. Roland Goodhim was the only CEO of Stonebull Corp. and Finance, a great businessman in the era. Well known globally for his influence and power that random people wouldn’t spot him in his office because he had several meetings all over the place.
And he was only in his mid-40s which made him even more charming.
The bright look of the CEO welcomed them both, “Ah, is it you Cyrus?” he strode forward to give the man a big hug. Cyrus has been used to this kind of approach from the man and could only stand still.
Roland pulled back and smiled, “Handsome as ever, I heard you hired a new secretary?” he then turned his head towards Patricia and the lady exchanged a sweet smile.
“And a hot one,” he grinned, “What’s your name?”
“I’m Patricia, Sir.”
“What a wonderful name! It suits you, dear.”
With his soft voice and friendly approach, Patricia could only brush the strands of her hair behind her ears. He wasn’t scary as everyone described him to be, she thought.
“I thought you’ll be in Europe around this season Sir?” Cyrus asked.
Roland finally exhaled, “I should be but things made such a quick turn. The East Town made such a bold repudiation against our goods.” He walked back onto the director’s chair.
“There is a stirring trouble around the east,” he then turned to Cyrus, “I want you to check it for me. We cannot take the risk of losing several products just because of these breaches.”
“Breaches Sir?”
“Yes, several of them breached the contract of agreement and someone was pulling the strings behind.”
Cyrus was deep in thought, he had received several reports and issues but he never thought someone actually dared to breach the contracts.
“I will investigate this matter as soon as possible Sir.” Cyrus declared.
Roland made a meaningful smile, “Say hi to Talia for me.”
“Mom!!”
Talia was currently preparing some cookies for Trevor when the child called.
She immediately stopped what she was doing and was about to climb up the stair towards his room when she saw her child wearing outdoor clothes, standing on the upper portion of the stair. Wearing a green jacket and pants.
She frowned.
Trevor opened his mouth, “Mom, I need to go to the park.”
“What?” Talia was confused, it was already afternoon.
“I need to go to the park Mom. Right now.” Trevor declared.
Talia sighed, “I already baked some snacks for you—“
“Mom, I’ll die if I can’t see any green and trees. I need fresh oxygen.”
Talia was speechless.
“But Trevor—“
“Mom!!”
Talia exhaled again but realizing that Trevor need to lock himself up in the house for a whole week made her realize how boring it would be.
“Just the park, okay?” Talia finally agreed and made Trevor smile widely.
“Yes! Park only!”
He then runs down in excitement.
Talia giggled seeing his energy, “Wait for me here, I’ll change a bit.”
Trevor was full of excitement that he need to express it by jumping and taking Gilda’s hand to join him. Aunt Gilda was a bit older than her mother but she was also gentle and kind that she would make fun together with him, but she was mute so she could only express her happiness with her eyes and smiles.
Trevor stopped when he remembered something, “I forgot something.” He was about to run back when Joe appeared.
“Is this what you forgot Sir?” Joe was holding a thing covered tightly with papers. It has an irregular shape as if it was sealed carefully not to let anyone guess what it was. Seeing that it was being held by Joe, Trevor immediately took it from him.
“Yes, it is!” Trevor exclaimed with a smile, not hinting at something. “Thank you.”
Joe just smiled, “You’re always welcome Sir.”
“Trevor,” Talia finally came out, with his plain loose pants and a long robe with matching boots, she was already ready, “Let’s go?”
Trevor smiled brightly, “Yeah!” he reached for his mother’s hand and led Talia out.
“Hurry! Hurry!” Trevor called hurriedly.
Talia couldn’t help but giggle softly, “I’m not running away. Watch your steps.”
“Have a safe trip!” Joe called as he stood together with Gilda seeing the back of the two leaving the house.
The central park wasn’t that far from their house so Talia and Trevor reached the place after walking for a while and Talia noticed how excited Trevor was since he has been turning from side to side as if he was greatly appreciating the view.
Talia laughed, “I didn’t know you were this much hyped up in going out Trev. Are you anticipating someone here?” she asked.
“A bit…well, not actually,” Trevor said as he still looked around.
Talia saw a bench on the corner and sat, the park was wide and open. Several kids were playing around along with their dogs and guardians. The place was almost filled with several noises and waves of laughter that made the ambiance livelier.
Trevor bought his small backpack that made Talia ask, “What’s in it?”
Trevor made a smile, “Toys!” he answered then ran to the place where several kids were playing sands.
Talia raised her brows and giggled softly. Trevor was moody sometimes. There are days that he would ignore everyone and days that he would interact with anyone, a kid that has his own world.
“Don’t get too far where I couldn’t see you, Trevor!” Talia called. Trevor only made a thumbs up.
Talia sat on the bench as she quietly observed the surrounding. There was still a length of time before sunset so she felt assured and idle before taking Trevor out.
She was sitting alone on the bench and had nothing to do. The parents who were present were also strangers to her and she wasn’t used to interaction so she could only play crosswords games on her phone.
“Hey!”
After just a while, she heard a close call right in front of her, and when she raised her head. She saw a familiar face. Talia’s face brightened up, “It’s you!”
It was that chubby lady from the meeting who was attending in his niece’s stead. She was wearing tight clothing as if she went out on a jog, her fair skin sparkled as the buds of sweat rolled on her forehead and neck.
“Forgot to introduce mine. I’m Lily Denor. That Denor convenience store? It’s ours.” She said as she sat beside her with such weight.
“I’m Talia—“
“Right, that Hanlock wife, yeah, I heard.” she said, “What ‘ya doing here?”
“My kid wanted to play so…” she turned in Trevor’s direction and saw the familiar jacket hanging on his back, with his back facing her. She frowned but was interrupted when Lily spoke again.
“Where’s your hubby?” Lily asked seeing her all alone, “I heard it’s family day today.”
Talia was then struck with realization, that’s right. It’s September!
Lily saw her surprised expression and just shook her head, “It’s okay, there are a lot of families like yours.”
Talia felt her words were stuck in her throat, she didn’t know what to say at the moment. They could hear several noises from kids all over the place, with their parents calling and screaming. She was late to notice that this afternoon was quite lively compared to other days. She felt a gloomy feeling hovering around her chest.
They should be spending this day together…
She felt her hands sweat, it was family day…
Lily was more carefree since she had no family, “My niece would also play things around here, with her friends and all but be careful, there are wild kids that would ask for a fight sometimes,” she spoke, “…those kids who live in the slums and didn’t go to school instead, would join gangs and bully other kids.”
Lily then spotted a group far from them then whistled, “Speaking of the little devils.”
Talia followed the direction of her eyes and saw a group of kids with their patched clothes and tanned skin, wearing broken slippers but their bodies were big.
“They’ll ask for money and if you won’t they’ll threaten you with a knife,” Lily chuckled.
But Talia already panicked and stood, “Trevor!”
Lily flinched to the side and saw Talia walking hurriedly toward her kid's direction. Along the way, she broke several sand castles that made the kids cry and scream but she was worried and when she was about to reach for Trevor, she was dumbfounded when it was a different kid, wearing Trevor’s outer jacket.
She froze in place and then turned side to side to look for her son but there was no sight of him, fear creep into her heart, “Trevor!?”
