Chapter 3
Walking into the coffee shop, the aroma from it made me want to have a cup. I know I am not in here for coffee, but if I can get a job here then I know it's something I’ll be able to afford. I am nervous I know I shouldn't be but what if someone knows who I am? what if my Alpha knows I am here? I know I shouldn't worry about these things, but its what has kept me safe. I know its going to be a long road ahead but with Mona and myself I think I can do it.
Walking closer to the counter, it's busy here which kind of sucks, but then again if they did tip and stuff I think everything would be great. I know I am going to have to work my ass off if I want to make this work, but I hope Mona can keep herself in control so that we can do this together.
“Hello welcome to Bella’s.” the girl at the counter said.
“I noticed you were hiring, so how can I get hired here?” I asked hoping she didn’t think I was acting like a b***h or anything.
“Fill out one of these, there is a manager here that will interview you and then if you get a job she will let you know when you are done,” she said with a smile. “I hope you get hired, we need the help, and everyone we’ve had come in only last a day.”
“Why?”
“You’ll see if you get hired.” she smiled. “Let me know when you are done, and I will get the manager your application and then she will call you back.”
“Thanks,” I said taking the paper and sitting down.
“What do you think she meant about people only lasting a day? That doesn’t sound like a good thing.” Mona whined at me.
“Well it could mean anything, maybe they suck at working in a busy place? It looks like it's going to take a little bit to get used to, but I think we can do this. I know we’re going to get ahead as long as I can get this job.” I said looking down at the application.
Part of me wants to lie about everything on this form, but then again I don’t know if it's going to work out in my favor if someone finds out who I am. I don’t want to lie, so I don’t and when I am finished I take the application back to the front of the store, it has died down a little bit.
“I will let Jean know you are done and ready,” she said taking the application from me. “Do you want a free coffee or something while you wait, I know it can be a bit she is dealing with a client here at the moment.”
“Sure I don’t mind waiting.” I smiled.
It didn’t take her long, but she brought me a coffee, and I watched all of the customers here. It's kind of nice being among the humans, they don’t even know we can live with them, but we rather not since they do things a lot differently than we would and we don’t like a lot of the things they’ve done to us in the past.
Twenty or so minutes later a fat lady emerged with another man out of the office, she didn’t look like she was happy but it's not something I can do about it. I hope she doesn’t do anything that is going to make it hard for this interview.
“Abby, are you ready?” she said looking at me. Did she know me, or is she assuming that I am the one that wants the job? Or worse she can tell I need this work more than anything. “Welcome, come let's get started.”
“Alright, nice to be here.” I smiled.
“So you want a job right?” she mused. “I can tell when someone needs one, and when someone wants one. I am guessing you are new here and you need this right?”
“Yeah kind of, I mean it's my first time here by myself, but I can do this,” I said trying not to sound bad. “I know I can learn everything we need to do.”
“I’m not worried.” she chuckled. “You’re hired, and you start in a few days, that way you can get some time to get to know this place a little better and kind of figure out where you are staying because if you are staying in that hotel down the road, I would get out of there as soon as possible.”
“Good to know thanks.” I smiled. “Thank you for giving me this work.”
“Well you don’t have to impress me, you will have to impress the owner, he comes here a lot and he expects a lot from us, I hope you can figure that out.”
“I can and will do what I have to.” I smiled. “Thank you again.”
“See you in a few days,” she said before she left me sitting there.
I am glad that I have a new job, at least now I can plan to get out of the hotel I am staying in. I know it's going to take some time but I feel it's going to be worth it.
“So we have a job?” Mona mused.
“Yeah and now we have a plan to get together, I don’t want to be here long. Maybe a few months and then we can figure out where we’re going after.” I said getting up. “I don’t know how well we’re going to work with the humans, but the girl at the cash register told me the owner of this place is hardcore mean so I don’t know if I can deal with that.”
“Well he has to be better than our Alpha.” she giggled. “But we’re going to have to see what happens, but don’t worry I am not going to let him do anything to do.”
“I know,” I said as we crossed the road. So I have a few days to kind of figure out where I am going to go, I guess I can just go back to the hotel and sleep some more, or we can go and get something to eat because I am starving.
“I am getting something to eat and then we should go back to our place, that way we don’t have to worry about anyone seeing us,” I said as we walked closer to McDonald's. I wasn't feeling like it, but it was the only thing close and I didn’t want to walk anymore.
I managed to get the food back to the hotel in one piece, once I sat down to eat all the bugs kind of came out but I didn’t mind them as they didn’t bother me at least not yet. I know roaches can be something that is a problem, but as long as they don’t try and get my food while I am eating I am not going to bother with them. They just give me more hope that I can get out of here a lot faster and show the world I am going to go big.
“So how is that food?” Mona mused at me.
“Well it's not packed food, but it's not something I am going to complain about, I guess it could be better but then again it could be worse,” I said as I stuffed a french fry in my mouth. “These humans do like having salt though, I am not sure I am going to be able to get through the rest of these.”
“Well you need to be strong, especially if you are going to be working for some crazed owner, I still don’t know how we’re going to get through this and move on. If he is too hard on you I am not going to let him talk down to you.”
“Well Mona, he is going to be my boss, so it's not like I can tell him what to do. All he will tell me is that I am fired, and we cannot lose our job so I am going to have to do what he wants whether or not it's too hard for me.”
“I still don’t think you should have to deal with someone that is going to treat you like crap.”
“Well we left that behind, I am sure he isnt going to be as bad as the Alpha, but if he is then we’ll just save up and get out of here one way or another. There isnt anyone here that is going to tell us that we have to do what they say.”
When she didn’t say anything, either she didn’t agree with me or she thinks something bad is going to happen. She has been right in the past, but we’re not with wolves anymore. It's something I am happy about. It's the one time I felt like I could be someone I am not and not get into trouble with it.
“Are you ready for your work?”
“I am.” I mused. “We have a couple of days, maybe we will go and do some shopping and then we will get to work early and show this new owner that we’re going to be good for his work. I don’t know what kind of person he is, but I am not afraid of him.”
“You should be, he's your boss.” she mused.
