CHAPTER 6: The Anniversary

1475 Words
(CALLIE POV) I don't believe in second chances, not because they're not real, but because I wouldn't want to be rejected by my first mate or experience something bad happening to him. But now, It has already occurred to me. I have already experienced rejection. I looked at the mirror once again and saw my reflection, but quickly looked away to prevent myself from feeling sad about my appearance. I glanced up at the clock hanging on the wall and noticed that it was 1:00 PM in the afternoon. You might wonder how a lady can stay in a room for so long; well, that's me. A girl who is being mocked by her peers, so what else can you expect? According to Tristan, he would make his rejection of me official by announcing it on the anniversary happening today. The thought not only crushed my heart but also humiliated me for the future. Time flies fast when you want it to be slow, and it moves slowly when you want it to move fast. I kept on wishing I could skip this night or maybe delay time, but time keeps flying fast. It didn't feel like I had been awake for 40 minutes, but looking at the clock again, it clearly stated that it was 5:00 PM. Once again, I stood and approached the window to take in the view. The harsh sun had set, and darkness was trying to envelop the whole pack. The door badge opened, and I turned to see Olivia entering with some clothes she had bought. It wasn't just red and white, as I had initially thought. In fact, red and white were only a few of the colors. She bought clothes of various colors, as if she were planning for me to start living here. I tried on the clothes, and they fit perfectly. I packed the other clothes in my wardrobe and chose to wear a white and red striped gown. I went to the bathroom, took a shower, and came out to start getting dressed. I finished dressing in less than 10 minutes. I sat back on the bed, waiting for someone, anyone, to come in and ask me to join them at the anniversary. If I had the right to choose, I would prefer the Alpha, but that didn't happen as Olivia came in and asked me to join her. We exited the house and made our way to the ZOK hall, which was a hall located in the center of the pack, mainly used for important occasions. When we finally reached the hall, there was a large crowd chanting and dancing. Everyone was dressed in red and white striped clothes. This dress code held significant meaning in our pack. The red in the stripes represented blood, the blood of those who were killed during the war for freedom, and the white represented peace, as we finally had peace. The hall was crowded, as you can imagine. This brought my self-esteem down to zero. I could feel my legs shaking. Many people not only wore red and white striped clothes, but they painted their bodies white and red, making it hard to know who was who. Some wore masks, and others painted their faces red. The hall was dark, but I could see clearly, and it was freezing even though there was a large fire lit in the center. you might be wondering how there could be a fire lit in a hall. That's because the hall in your imagination isn't the same as the one I'm talking about. The hall is an open space, just outside with no building. It's like a field. I turned my back, only to discover that Olivia was no longer with me. I searched around for her using only my eyes, but I still couldn't see her. I knew she had gone to celebrate with her peers. I felt lonely. I was conscious of each step I took as I walked to an empty chair. It felt as though everyone was laughing at me, although it might not be true, that's how I felt. I managed to reach the empty chair and sat down. It was rough and uncomfortable, but I had to manage. The chair was just a cut-down timber and we sat on it. It's just like an African festival, where only high-ranked wolves would sit on the timber, while the lower-ranked wolves would have to sit on the ground. I was not high-ranked, in fact, my late parents were both Omegas, so I was a full-blooded Omega. But I sat there because I was invited by the Alpha himself. I could see some of my peers engaging in gossip and whispering unfamiliar words to each other as they sat on the floor. They would undoubtedly be surprised to find me seated here while they, who believed themselves to be attractive and in good shape, sat on the ground. The other highly ranked wolves were all seated on the long timber. I searched with my eyes for Alpha Sebastian and his son but didn't see them. It seemed like they hadn't arrived yet. I was still nervously and shyly looking around when I saw Regina come to sit beside me. I had to adjust to make space for her to sit next to me. Oh!! wait, I haven't mentioned who Regina is. Regina was the Alpha's ex-wife and Tristan's mother. So, what was she doing here? I mean, she should be in her own pack, not here. Finally, the Alpha arrived with his son, Tristan. The Alpha wore a red and white striped shirt and red shorts, just like Tristan, except Tristan had painted his face with white paint. As soon as people saw the Alpha, they started chanting and making noise as he and his son made their way to their seats. Accidentally, my eyes met Tristan's, and by the look on his face, he was telling me to leave the seat and move to where I deserved to sit, which was on the ground. I ignored him. My problem wasn't him for now. My problem was how I was going to face the humiliation he would bring upon me today. Just like a normal African party or any normal party, everything started going fine as we drank, ate, sang, danced, and chanted, until it was finally time for Tristan to give his speech. He walked over to the mic, and I could see an evil smile forming on his face. I closed my eyes and wished I could disappear from here. I opened my eyes, and it was finally his turn to speak. He cleared his throat, and everyone became silent. Was he really going to publicly reject me, or would he change his mind? Well, he didn't change his mind. He stood and began, "Good evening, everyone at this anniversary. I would like to join you all in thanking the Moon Goddess for today. A day...," he continued. My mind wasn't there anymore, so I couldn't hear what he was saying next, until suddenly I heard my name. My ears perked up. "Yeah, you all might be wondering why. The truth is, I will have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Callie from this day onwards, and that's final." His words pained me, but I wouldn't cry for him, as I had already made up my mind never to be with him, even if he apologized. The sudden silence at the anniversary turned into murmuring as people started gossiping about me. I could see my peers laughing, but I avoided making eye contact with them. Now, it was the Alpha's turn to speak and end this whole f*****g anniversary. "Well, I know this might sound strange, but since my son Tristan has decided to have nothing to do with his mate, I will make her my mate. The..." He couldn't finish his sentence as he was interrupted by the sudden noise from the crowd. What did the Alpha mean by that? Did he know about the pull? My current feelings were a mixture of nervousness, fear, and happiness. Was I going to be mated to the Alpha? I could see anger in Regina's eyes. Why would she be angry, since she had already divorced the Alpha? Tristan looked shocked, with his jaw slightly opened, and my peers were speechless. "Silence," the security men ordered, and the people calmed down. "Callie is going to be my mate. I will arrange the wedding date with her, and I will inform each of you. That means each of you will accept her back as a friend, as she will be my Luna." Was the Alpha really going to mate with me? This was absolutely what I wanted, but how could this be real? Was this a dream?
