CHAPTER 7 : Vampires

1661 Words
(CALLIE POV) The Alpha's statement had a profound impact on the people. Everyone left silently after the anniversary was over. I stood up and left without searching for Olivia. I had to return to the Alpha's home since I had no place to stay in this pack. I made sure to take the lonely path, as that was the only place where I felt comfortable. People usually took the other road, and I didn't want to be with them. The path I chose was dangerous, as it was known to be frequented by vampires who secretly lived among us. They would often attack wolves in that area. Although the Alpha had recently sent his patrol team to the area and killed many vampires, people were still afraid to use that path. I preferred to take the most dangerous route instead of using the main road that the other pack members used. I moved silently as the memory of the Alpha's words during the anniversary replayed in my mind. Everything felt like a dream and was happening too quickly. It was the first time I had been rejected by my mate, family, and pack members, and now I was going to mate with the Alpha himself. As I thought about this, I could feel a mix of sadness and happiness in my body. It was a feeling I hadn't experienced in a while. I continued my journey until I felt like I was being followed by someone. I turned around but couldn't see anyone, although I could sense their presence. Who could that be? Immediately, fear washed over me and my heart rate increased. I quickened my walking pace, almost running, while continuously looking back, to the side, and around me with a sense of dread. Suddenly, I collided with something in front of me. I turned my gaze towards the object and saw a dark-skinned man who was exceptionally large and muscular. He had completely shaved his head. Stepping back, my heart pounded even harder than before. I wanted to flee, but he firmly grasped my hand. I was overcome with terror, my legs trembling and my body shaking uncontrollably. As he held onto my hand and pulled me closer, his scent enveloped me. He smelled like blood. Oh, moon goddess, is this how it will end for me? Fearfully, I struggled to free myself from his grip and escape, but his hold was as strong as iron, rendering my efforts futile. He then focused his bloodshot eyes on my blue eyes, peering into them before sniffing me like a dog for a brief moment. "You are his mate," I heard him mutter. "What?" I responded, my voice filled with fear. "Are you the new mate of the Alpha?" he inquired, his voice resonating with depth. I wondered who this man was and how he could possibly know about my status. His face was unfamiliar, and his complexion clearly indicated that he didn't belong to our pack. While we did have members with darker skin tones, his blackness differed significantly from ours. His scent only confirmed my suspicion. The Alpha had just made the statement that he would mate with me, and uncertainty lingered in the air as to whether he was serious or not. So why would this stranger approach me with such a question? "No," I responded, my body still trembling. "I don't have time for you at the moment. Inform the Alpha, your mate, that Lord Kameron has returned to reclaim what rightfully belongs to him—my son," he declared, then swiftly departed with astounding speed, nearly knocking me down in the process. I held onto my trembling body and quickly returned to the Alpha's house. Finally, I found myself in my room, lying on my bed. From the man's statement, it seemed he was a Lord, a title mostly used by vampires and humans. And from the speed at which he exited after speaking to me, he was surely not human. Although I didn't believe in the existence of Humans, I was taught in school that humans had no supernatural powers and were the weakest faction in our world. If Kameron was a Lord, then what was he doing in the werewolf land, knowing that he would surely be killed if caught? What possession was he talking about? What did he mean by "taking his son back," and why was it concerning the Alpha? The Alpha only had one son, Tristan, so which son was he referring to? The Alpha had also said that all vampires living among us had mostly been killed, except for those that were yet to be discovered. So why was this vampire Lord freely moving in our pack to the extent of stopping me and giving me a message without any fear? It had only been 24 hours since I arrived in the Alpha's home, and everything was happening so fast. I needed to tell the Alpha about this man. I was still pondering all of this when I heard a knock on the door. "Come in," I said. The door opened, and the Alpha entered. This was my chance to tell him about the man. I knew it might sound foolish to him, as there was no way a vampire would need a wolf to deliver a message instead of killing her. But I needed to at least make the Alpha aware that there was a vampire in our territory. Alpha Sebastian moved towards my bed and sat beside me. He placed his hands on my shoulders. "How are you doing, Callie?" "I'm fine," I replied. "Where were you after the anniversary? I searched for you with my eyes but didn't see you." "I left early, Alpha." "If you had left early, then why did you come back so late?" "I used the other road," I said. "The other road? The one that vampires used to stay on?" "Yes" was all I said. I knew this was the time to tell him, or I might not get another chance. Despite the fact that the man's words didn't seem like a threat, the fact that he was a vampire made them a threat to our Alpha. "Well, I would have told you to never use that road again, but considering that I had already sent my patrol wolves to monitor that area and many vampires were captured and killed, there's no need to fear vampires anymore. Our pack is now free from rogues and vampires. In fact, I assure you that there are no more vampires in our territory. Also, I want you to know that our pack has the strongest patrol team in the world." Wolves and vampires harbor a deep enmity towards each other in our world, primarily due to the nefarious nature of vampires. These vampires relentlessly seek an opportunity to exploit and gain dominion over the werewolf territory, much like they did with the humans. Based on what I learned in school, which I still find difficult to fully believe due to my disbelief in the existence of humans, it is rumored that vampires are currently infiltrating the human world. Allegedly, they hunt and feed on humans during the night, leaving the general populace with no recourse but to report these incidents through media channels such as radio and television. Unlike the werewolves, humans seem to lack the determination to take further action against these vampires. We do not bear enmity towards humans. However, to safeguard our pack, the Alpha has imposed a ban on humans entering our pack. Additionally, rogues are also prohibited from joining our pack. Furthermore, he has extended this restriction to wolves that do not belong to our pack, preventing them from entering without proper documentation. Seeing how the Alpha boasted about his patrol team, I swallowed my words. When I was returning to the Alpha's home, which is now my home, there were no patrol wolves on that path. Perhaps they also joined us to celebrate the anniversary. I needed to be absolutely certain about anything I told the Alpha, so that he wouldn't perceive me as a liar. However, the current dilemma is how I can ensure my certainty. "Hey, are you okay?" the Alpha asked, noticing that I was partially lost in thought. "Yes, Alpha." "I know how you feel, Callie. I know how difficult it is to be rejected, but I'll help you get your mate back." What was he talking about? He said he would mate with me after his son rejected me. So why the sudden change? Just a day ago, I was crying over my sorrowful life and the rejection. Now, I'm faced with more problems that I can't even begin to understand. "Alpha, please, what do you mean by that?" I asked. "Well, that's why I'm here to explain something to you. I know I should have done it before, but I forgot. I had to pretend to be in love with you so that Tristan would get jealous, and then you could have him back." I felt bitterness and sadness from his words. He was saying it to make me happy, but those words were something I didn't want to hear. Less than four hours ago, I had thought that the Alpha wanted me as his mate, unaware that he was doing all of this for his son. I held back the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes. I didn't want the Alpha to see me crying over him. It wouldn't be right. "So, what do you say about this?" he asked. "It's okay," I answered, knowing well that I was lying. "Okay, I'm glad you're on board. Get some rest to gather yourself, so we can talk tomorrow. Goodnight," he said, leaving through the door. I watched him depart as I lay back on my bed, forcing myself to sleep, while the memories of recent events continuously replayed in my mind.
