(CALLIE POV)
I opened my eyes, momentarily blinded by the light streaming into the room through the window. It was morning, and I found myself still at the Alpha's home.
With no plan or idea of what to do next, I decided to stay in the room and not expect much.
I stood up and stretched before moving towards the window to admire the view. The entire pack was busy decorating for the upcoming Anniversary. I could see my peers buying clothes and everyone working on various decorations. The chosen colors for the event were red and white, giving it a Christmas-like feel.
I had never attended the Anniversary before, as I tend to avoid crowded places. However, I knew it was an important day for our pack. It commemorated the day we were freed from the control of the Great Moroko pack, our neighboring pack, where Alpha Sebastian's second wife came from. This pack was notorious for mistreating Gammas and Omegas, but our pack was different.
Alpha Sebastian treated all members equally, with love and care. However, since the arrival of his son, things have changed slightly. He formed a group with other high-ranking wolves' children, leading to the mistreatment of lower-ranked wolves. Some low-ranked wolves, unable to fight against this, joined them to cause more trouble.
Feeling uncertain about what to do next, I returned to my bed. If I still had my job, I would have left for work by now. I would have been in the library, assisting children and adults who came to read.
Suddenly, the door slowly swung open without a knock. At first, I thought it was the Alpha, but when the person finally entered, it was a female servant dressed as a cook. She wore a red and white-striped apron.
In her hands, she carried a tray with two plates. She had forest green eyes, long legs, and a nice figure. She approached my bedside with a smile on her face.
"Good morning. Where can I place the food for you?" she asked politely.
I hesitated for a moment, then pointed to the table in the middle of the room. "There," I replied.
"Okay, ma'am," she said as she placed the food on the table. She then proceeded to the door, opening it to leave. However, she stopped and turned back toward me. I continued staring at her, curious about why she had stopped.
"Um...ma'am, I was the one who changed the clothes you were previously wearing to these," she said, pointing at the outfit I currently had on.
I felt a sense of relief, knowing that it wasn't the Alpha himself who changed my previous dress to this one I'm currently wearing, but a servant. Not just any servant, but a female one.
"Thank you," I simply said.
"Ma'am, aren't you preparing for the upcoming Anniversary tonight? Everyone is getting ready except for you," she mentioned.
There was a brief silence between us.
"Sorry, ma'am, I have to go to my duty post. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to call me. I am designated to assist you by the Alpha. My name is Olivia," she introduced herself before leaving the room without saying anything further.
Wait, she's my assistant? The Alpha chose her to assist me? Why would I need an assistant? Did this mean I would be staying here for longer?
As I contemplated my next move, the door slowly creaked open as if someone were trying to sneak in.
Since the previous door opening turned out to be a servant and not the Alpha himself, I assumed this second person must be the Alpha.
To my surprise, it wasn't the Alpha who entered the room, but Tristan. He was still wearing his pajamas.
Why was he here? Did he come to apologize, as his father had instructed him to?
He entered the room, covering his nose as if there were a bad smell present. I was certain that the room was devoid of any odor, but if there were, Olivia would have informed me.
This wasn't the first time I had experienced this behavior. My peers frequently asserted that I emitted unpleasant body odors, and as a result, they would cover their noses with their hands to demonstrate this. However, I was aware that these were merely insults and falsehoods intended to ridicule me.
Despite my appearance, I always used body perfume after showering to ensure that I smelled good.
It is likely true that being overweight or chubby can result in a distinct odor, but primarily for individuals who do not prioritize regular bathing or the use of pleasant fragrances.
Even if there was a smell, the distance between us should be enough to mask it. He stood far away from me, as if I were carrying an infectious disease.
I fixed my gaze on his blue eyes, still wondering why he was here.
"Well," he began, "I'm here to find out why you are still in this house. It's morning, and you should continue your journey."
What journey was he referring to? Did he know that I was attempting to escape this pack? It wouldn't surprise me if he did, considering his father must have told him everything.
Noticing that I wasn't going to respond to his question, he continued speaking. I no longer feared him.
He had rejected me, and that was that. The pain had come and gone, and I needed to move on.
"I see...well, I don't know your plans in this house, but I want to make something clear to you. You will be leaving this house tonight after I officially announce our rejection to the entire Great Pine Pack," he said, his voice filled with amusement.
"So," he continued, "the sooner you start leaving, the better for you. I heard you were trying to move to the next pack. Well, you better restart your journey now or end up being thrown out of this mansion tonight. Your presence has disgusted every wolf here, and your bad odor has contaminated the air," he mocked, waving his hand in front of his nose.
His words crushed me, shattering any remaining fragments of my self-esteem. I never would have thought that the person I was fated to mate with would stand in front of me and verbally abuse me. Tears streamed down my face, and I didn't bother to wipe them away.
I despise him with every fiber of my being.
I stayed silent, unwilling to say anything to him. He moved to the center of the room, where I had asked Olivia to place the food.
He chuckled and pointed at the food, mocking, "Is this the best you can do? Eating in the morning, eating in the afternoon, and eating at night. Aren't you ashamed of your size? Look at your peers; how many of them look like this?" He gestured towards my fat stomach, encircled by rolls, as I sat there.
I remained quiet, observing him as he displayed his foolishness and irresponsibility. He then uncovered the food, lifted both plates from the tray, and dumped it on the ground.
I observe with frustration as the delectable food scatters across the floor, while anger begins to well up within me.
"All that food on your fat stomach should be enough to keep you satiated for a hundred years, so there's no need for you to eat again," he sneered, laughing.
I remained silent, not because I was weak, but because I was new in this house, and Tristan was the Alpha's son. Acting against him would only bring me more harm.
"I will leave now because this room smells terrible due to your body odor. But before I go, I want to warn you to pack your things and leave this pack. Avoid coming to the anniversary tonight, unless you want to embarrass yourself further. Also..."
"Also what?" echoed a resounding and commanding voice, permeating the air and enveloping the space with its sheer magnitude and power. This sudden sound compelled me to redirect my attention toward its origin, where I beheld the entrance of the Alpha into the room.
His facial expression indicated anger, though he tried to control it. I felt a glimmer of happiness within me. It was as if his presence erased the anger caused by Tristan. I noticed his hands clenching at his sides.
"Father," Tristan greeted, clearly surprised by his father's presence.
The Alpha didn't respond to him, his anger simmering. I could practically see smoke coming out of his ears in his fury.
