Henry

1016 Words
“William.” “Henry.” A middle aged man greeted William with a formal welcome and William responded with a formal handshake. There was a warm smile on Henry’s face as if he was looking at his family member. On the other hand, William looked cold and distant. If his subordinates did not know that William had always been distant and cold towards everyone, they would doubt that their boss had a bone to pick with Henry. Surprisingly, his distant nature did not affect Henry. The middle aged man continued his warm smile and chuckled, “You look just like how your father once described.” There was no comment from the young man’s end. Once again Henry did not mind. He happily laughed out loud and even slapped on his back as an elder would do to his junior before urging him to come inside, “Let’s go inside. You had traveled a long distance. You should be tired by now, right? Have something to eat first before taking some rest. We can talk about all the other details after that.” Thus Henry and William entered Henry’s villa followed by both their pack members. William, being the calm person that he was, did not speak anything and followed Henry. Henry thus decided to ask, “Or do you want to rest first and have dinner later? We can schedule however you want.” He didn't want to impose on William and asked for his opinion. William shook his head calmly, “I am not tired. We can eat and directly get to work.” Henry looked like he wanted to say something but in the end did not speak anything before he nodded his head instead. Everyone went to the large dining table and took their seats before they started having their food. “William, this is my daughter, Samantha. Samantha, dear, this handsome young man here is William. My old friend’s son.” Henry introduced two youngsters to each other while eating. “Hello,” Samantha nodded and greeted him softly to which William gave an expressionless nod with courtesy. After this incredibly small exchange, both the youngsters did not take another glance at each other and immersed themselves in eating the food in front of them. Henry sighed before shaking his head helplessly to himself. He looked at his wife who was giving him a knowing look which was nothing short of a glare. He cleared his throat and continued eating, totally ignoring her looks and also the awkward exchange between his daughter and his good old friend’s son. If this went on, how could they get engaged? But then again, it was their first meeting after all. It would be weird if they both were so into each other as soon as they met too. Once dinner was finished Henry once again looked at the youngsters and gave them the chance to communicate with each other, “William, Samantha, both of you go to the garden and have a walk. It is good for digestion.” Everyone in the room that heard his words couldn’t help but mentally roll their eyes at him. What good digestion? If he wanted them to talk to each other, can’t he say so directly? Who would even reject it in this situation? William and Samantha did not speak but slowly walked towards the garden just as Henry told them to. Before leaving, Henry gave a look at Samantha. The young lady pursed her lips but nodded her head while lowering her eyes. Samantha looked calm and elegant as she took small steps yet strong ones. If her head was not lowered, one would think that she was queen. But just a small gesture made her look a little timid yet not many would notice it clearly enough to call her weak. She is just reluctant. With his sharp eyes, William could understand this fact. Well, it is not like he was active in this whole ordeal. But there is no other choice. They were about to get engaged and there is no way they could escape this. In fact, William wouldn’t want to escape this. He needed to get engaged. Otherwise, he would not receive the strong support of Henry’s pack. He needs as much backing as possible to go against Steven and his army. If one needed a strong backing, how could one miss out on Henry’s pack? It is the strongest pack in the country. Hence, he did not care even if he had to get engaged to Henry’s daughter if it’s what was needed to get his pack’s support. After walking outside for a long time neither of the duo talked a single word. Surprisingly, it was William that opened his mouth to ask, “So? Your father forced you into this marriage?” Samantha, whose head had always been lowered, raised her head in surprise and looked straight into William’s eyes. William’s heart stopped beating for a second when he looked into her eyes. Why did he remember that weird man when he looked into her eyes? He did not understand. But he did not let any expression show on his face. Though Samantha showed an expression of surprise, she immediately retracted and looked around. It was very clear that she was scared someone was eavesdropping on their conversation. The corners of William’s lips twitched as he said, “Don’t worry. There is no one around. No one can hear us either. You can speak whatever you want to.” Samantha was once again surprised and only then did her mind become clear. She looked at her surroundings and found that they were actually not in their garden but somewhere else. When did they come here and how did they come here? She did not understand. She then looked back at William and understood that the man in front of her is really not so simple. Despite looking like he did not care about anything, he actually found a spot where no one would be able to spy on them.
