Chapter 4: Dating Is Supposed To be Fun (1) *** “Honey… If you have the time please go downstairs and help your father. Something happened with the sink and he needs some assistance...” The woman said as she looked at her daughter who sat on the bed holding a mascara and a mirror in her hands. “I’m sorry… Are you going out somewhere?” The mother asked. “Ah… I mean I was just…. Preparing for the date, you know…?” Evan said as he laughed awkwardly at his mother. ‘Please don’t notice, please don’t notice…’ He thought to himself as he tried to stay as still as possible. “But… honey your date is tomorrow…” The mother said as she tilted her head to the side. ‘I had no idea she was so excited, this was a good idea after all.’ She thought to herself with a smile. “That… so…” Evan felt like his heart froze in a quick second. ‘So I’m wearing all this make-up for nothing…? Is that it… dammit…’ He couldn’t help but curse in his mind. “Also… did you change out of your other clothes? You seem to be wearing your brother’s T-shirt again…” The mother said as she looked at her daughter who took a second before speaking up. “Yeah, I think we got them mixed up, I just picked it up from the laundry…” Evan said while still trying to maintain a high pitched voice, it wasn’t as difficult as he thought it was, but the fact he was speaking to his mother while dressed like his sister made him panic a bit thinking she’d recognize him in a second. “Haha… you two are always so close with each other, you even mix up your clothes, I’m getting a bit jealous you know?” She laughed then continued… “How about the four of us go out somewhere next weekend? It’s going to be really fun, right?” The mother suggested, if anything she looked way more excited than her child did at that moment. “S-sure…” Evan said with an awkward smile on his face. ‘Thank God, she didn’t recognize me.’ He thought to himself. “Alright! I’ll go tell your brother and your father. I’ll ask your brother to help me with cooking while I’m at it…” The mother said as she headed back out with excitement. “Ah, just please go help your father he’s not really good at fixing things like you…” “I will, give me a minute to take off my make-up…” Evan said as he nodded his head. His mother leaving the room and closing the door behind her… “That was a close call, wasn’t it?” Evelyn said as she peaked her head out of the wardrobe she’d been hiding in. “Hey, could you help me get up? My legs fell asleep while I was in here…” “Haha…” Evan couldn’t help but laugh. “And here I thought I was the only one stuck in the closet…” He said as he extended his hand to help his sister get up. “Good one.” Evelyn said as she lightly chuckled. The moment she got up on her two legs however, her brother pinched her cheek and pulled it to the side harshly. “Ouch! Ouch! What are you doing?!” Evelyn asked as the other let go of her cheek. She pressed the palm of her hand onto her face. “That hurt you i***t…” “Who’s the i***t you unbaked muffin! Your date’s tomorrow, there was no freaking reason for me to wear all this make-up and pretend to be you in front of mom!” Evan said in a quiet yet angry voice as he face palmed, feeling like all of this was for nothing. “Calm down, will you? How was I supposed to know that?” Evelyn asked as she rubbed her cheek, feeling like it might turn read soon. Due to the paleness of their skin, both of them were easily prone to obvious bruises from the slightest touch. “Weren’t you listening when they told you about it?” Evan asked, feeling like his face had gone a bit redder than before. He was still embarrassed, his parents were the only ones he wasn’t too confident he could fool unless he tried hard. “I was too shocked to even process everything they said, all I heard was… date, arranged, some guy.” Evelyn explained as she picked up some more make up removal napkins. “Next time listen to them… I am so not doing this again…” Evan said as he sat back down on the chair in front of the large mirror. “Now get this make up off me, it feels really weird…” “But you look so pretty with it…” Evelyn said as she smiled at her brother and began wiping his face off. “I am just as pretty without make up!” He said in an overly exaggerated manner, but it was his confidence in his words that made the other a bit stunned. “I can’t even deny that since we share the same face…” Evelyn remarked as she chuckled a bit. “Well… At least we now know you can still pass off as me even though we’re a bit older…” She said then turned to look at herself in the mirror. “Though I’m not too sure if I’ll be able to pass off as you…” “You’ll be fine…” Evan said as he closed his eyes as the other was wiping the make-up off his eyelids. “You said it before, right… We have the same face, if even our mother couldn’t tell the difference, we’re fine with anyone who doesn’t know us.” “You’re right about that…” Evelyn said as she finished removing everything. “Now… give me your shirt.” “What? Why?” Evan asked as he stood off of the bed and put his hands on his chest as if he was protecting his most secret property. “Mom saw you as me in that shirt… If I don’t go downstairs with it now, she’ll think something’s up…” Evelyn said as she extended her hand waiting for the other to give him the shirt. “No way… just tell her you changed clothes already.” Evan took a step back. “This is my LPA shirt! There’s no way I’m lending it to you like this!” He said as he took yet another step back. The shirt was of his favorite TV series, he treasured it a lot…
