Chapter 8

Farrell's POV "So I heard Alpha Louis is now your friend," Mom says as she walks into my room. I am dressed for the party and I'm just combing my black hair neat enough to look presentable. But the mane of the black curls are sometimes hard to brush. "He coined the term friends for that?" I ask her back, to which she just laughs. "And he also got into a fight at the w***e house in our pack. Apparently he wanted three girls at once," mom says and I scrunch my nose up just at the thought of it. "I heard that he runs the most successful pack. How much of it is true?" I ask mom, turning around and giving her all my attention. He was more interested in the whores of our pack. He was fascinated about the farming techniques of our pack. And many more things. Not once did he talk about what being an Alpha is to him. "Oh don't be fooled by all of this. Because he turns into a devil when it involves a war. There was a time when your father was an Alpha and Louis was still training to become an Alpha. In a friendly combat Louis defeated your father," mom says and that is now something serious to focus on. "But you are much stronger and he knows it. That's why he led you to believe he is dumb so you wouldn't be focusing on him. He is a cunning fox," mom tells me again. "Be careful today. So many Alphas and all their eyes are on you. Maybe find a mate," she says, making me chuckle. "Mom. Everyone at the party will be either Alphas or Lunas or Betas," I tell her but she shakes her head. "A few of them brought their maids. Apparently some Lunas cannot take care of themselves and need their Omegas even for a task as much as brushing or braiding their hair," mom says, and she sounds so bored. Well if Omegas are here then that's a possibility I would find a mate. This party is not going to be doomed after all. "Well then. You have already gone against my best judgment. But all I could do is support you and pray for your safety at this point," mom whispers, hugging me and placing a kiss on my cheek. I hugged her back. And I am glad that she at least understands that I need to do this. If my death is written in the stars, then the walls surrounding me are enough to kill me. Nothing stops death and it's only one life. Sebastian knocks on the door and mom asks him to join the hug too. There were times when we both grew up together. As in, same house, same clothes and all. He is family too. "Alpha Aylee arrived as well. Not all Alphas are happy about it," Sebastian tells me and my mom squealed. Yes. She squealed. Something very unlike her. "Oh My God! I have heard so much about her. Too bad she is born to that bastard Felix. I can't wait to meet her!" Mom says and I look at her confused. "I am the Alpha Mother of The Nightfall Pack. I have spies everywhere," she waves her hand in dismissal as she walks out of the room making Sebastian and I shake our heads looking at each other. But somewhere in the corner of my heart, I am eager to meet her too. One female Alpha in the middle of the male Alpha crowd. I really want to see how she is going to manage it without being so intimidated. I walk out with Sebastian and Meghan tells me that she is done with the painting. I should tell Alpha Louis so he can stop by to take this for his son before they leave home. Usually an artist takes hours and hours to make a finest painting but Meg uses magic and handwork in equal proportions to make it the best in less time. I take my time walking towards the platform where the party is taking place. It was Sebastian's idea to host it outdoors under the stars since it's a pleasant way to approach. A large quantity of wine, meat and various delicacies were bought only for this party. And judging the expenses our pack had to bear for this, I don't think I am going to throw another party soon. Sebastian and Meghan already reached the party place and are doing their best to greet all the guests and keep them engaged. But something in me is stirring. Something doesn't feel right. "Are you asleep? Or are you angry?" I ask my wolf. "I am trying to be sane," he tells me and I nod mentally. My first shift four days ago was a painful and almost near death experience. So the healer asked me not to shift anytime soon until all my bones are back in their place and I get more practice to endure all of it. Who knew the first shift could be this hard! I am just twenty feet away from the party and my heart is now beating impossibly fast. Sweat is rolling down my forehead and it feels so hot despite the pleasant night. "Alpha Farrell!" Alpha Louis is the one to spot me first and raises his wine glass as if he is raising a toast for me and I smile at him. With every step I take, the feeling in me is only heightening. What is happening to me? Is this some sort of black magic? Even though there are a hundred scents I catch, one stood out the most. The orchids and Lime. The heavenly combination that is making me go crazy and grow addictive. Meghan notices my discomfort and rushes to my side but I still have a smile on my face. I need to act well. I am the host of this party. I cannot let people see I am going crazy. Or that I am unwell. "Hey hey. What's happening? Are you alright?" Meghan asks me and I nod. I am alright. I have to be. "Mate!" My wolf says, making my eyes go wide. "Mate is here," he says again and I stop dead in my tracks looking around. "My wolf just recognised my mate. She is here," I say and Meghan looks a little shocked. Oh whoever she is. I am going to find her and I am definitely not going to let go of her. "But she is running," my wolf says again. What?
