Chapter 10

1502 Words
Farrell's POV "She is running?" I ask my wolf Lyon once again. "Yes. Stop her before I come out and do something that we both will regret once it's done," he says again and I scan the crowd again. Everyone is looking at me now but I find no one is running. Or maybe I am not thinking well or searching well enough. "Everyone. Stop!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs that even my mother flinched a little bit. But just with my roar, everyone is now standing right where they are at. And there's no sign of anything. Until I saw a carriage moving along with the horses. I looked at Sebastian and he understood what I was asking of him in an instant and screamed at the carriage rider to stop. I saw the driver momentarily hesitating but when he looked around as if he was having a conversation with the person in the carriage, he started driving away even faster. As if they didn't want to stop. As if he got orders from his Alpha not to stop and to keep moving. If anything, maybe the Alpha asked the driver to ride even faster. "We can block the borders. It takes them approximately seven minutes to reach the borders and there are men already," Sebastian tells me. "No. No it's okay," I say but by now, everyone is looking at me in a weird way. "I'm sorry. Enjoy the party," I say as I turn around but my mother's hand on my shoulder stops me from walking back to the pack house. "It's your party," she reminds me, making me turn around and nod at her. "And where is Alpha Aylee? I saw her standing there just moments ago," mom asks Meghan whose eyes are on me but I smile telling her that I am fine. "Oh. It was her carriage that just left," Meghan says. Alpha Aylee's carriage? I need to know how many Omegas she bought with her for help. I have heard there are Lunas who needed three Omega servants just to help them get in their dresses this evening. "She left? Didn't she like the accommodation of her and her Omega servant girls?" I ask Sebastian and Meghan. I cannot ask them straight so this probably helps. "No. She did not even get to the guest house and she didn't even bring her Omegas with her. It was just her warrior who acted like her bodyguard and two more guards. Not even Beta," Meghan tells me. Alright. So I am definitely not gay. But why would Moon Goddess pair me up with an Alpha? Things were disastrous enough when my parents were mates. An Alpha and a Beta. Now an Alpha and an Alpha? Is this some sick joke? "There might have been an emergency at her pack. Else she wouldn't come all the way here just to leave within fifteen minutes," Meghan says and I nod, trying my best to act like Alpha Aylee is not my mate at all. "Now greet your guests. They came here because you invited them. Not me or Sebastian or Meg," mom whispers in my ear but still maintaining her smile showing the guests that everything is fine. I smile as well, walking towards the party. All of a sudden I don't want to be here. I want to know more about Alpha Aylee. I want to know how far her pack is. I want to know everything I can. "The star of the show!" Alpha Louis raises his wine glass at me again and I smile at him. "Your pack whores are like porcelain dolls," Alpha Louis comments, making the Alphas around him laugh a little. But I see it in their faces that they aren't really enjoying his company or his comments. Maybe they are laughing and being nice because Alpha Louis could be their biggest rival if he wishes to be so. "Someone give him some wine too!" Alpha Louis screams but I refuse so and move on to greeting my next guest. Behind me is a table where almost ten Lunas are seated. "Oh no. The embroidery is the finest and from one of our native tailor," one of them says while the rest all admire her. What an interesting topic for them to be discussing at a party like this. "But Aylee still stuck to her bland dresses which are so outdated," I hear one of them say. At this point I am more interested to listen to that conversation and about Aylee more than the conversation with Alpha Henry. He is talking about how he once shot a bird that was sitting on the top of a tree. "My mate told me that she wears men's clothing during wars," someone else from the group and I wonder who her mate is. "Oh how I love about you all talking and gossiping. I bet you'd be talking about dresses and people even if the end of the world is right in front of you," I hear my mom's voice and I smile. But that only fuelled Alpha Henry to tell me more about his hunting tales because he thought I am smiling because I am interested. "You should join me sometime. Maybe I can teach you a thing or two," Alpha Henry says and I nod moving on to my next guest. But thankfully Meghan steals me from the crowd. She told me that she can literally see how badly I needed a distraction from those boring conversations. I would be enjoying it if I didn't know Alpha Aylee was my mate. Making friends was what I craved for but now that I found my mate, it feels like that is now my new favorite hobby. To know more and more about her. "I snuck this," she says, slipping a glass of the richest shade of red wine in it. "Wow," I whispered, making her chuckle. "One of the Alphas brought this as a gift. So it's rightful that you enjoy it," she says but before I take a sip, mom takes that from my hands. "Fifteen years later, the Lunas are still the same gossip machines," she says, quite irritated and drinks half the glass of wine in one go. "I really wanted to meet Alpha Aylee" mom groaned, making me chuckle. It is now becoming a task to act like my heart isn't beating loud at all whenever I hear her name. I remember my mother saying it's too bad that Aylee was born to bastard Felix. I don't know if she called him a bastard because she wasn't fond of him. Or because he was an illegitimate son of his father. But either way, that's the only information I have about her as of now. I look at Meghan to see if she already noticed the minor change in me but she has a little frown as she looks at me, because of the wine glass mom took from my hands. "It's okay. I'll just have another glass. Where is it?" I ask Meghan and she points me to the wine table and told me there was a note on it with my name. I badly need wine now more than ever. I cannot stop thinking of Alpha Aylee. I don't even know what she looks like. But I find myself already wanting to know more about her. Now this is going to turn into a really bad unhealthy obsession. Just as I am pouring the wine into my glass, I hear screams. I quickly look in that direction but the crowd is making it impossible to actually see who is screaming. But there are several noises. I push people and make my way towards the center of the crowd. I am the host. I am supposed to take care of things. I bet even Sebastian, Meghan and my mother are already there thinking of something but I need to be there too. By the time I reach the scene, my heart drops into my stomach as I look at what's before me. Meghan is crying uncontrollably while Sebastian is screaming. "I'll go get the healer!" Sebastian screams. No no no. We don't have time. "No. We don't have that much time. Let me take her to the healer," I say, taking my mom in my arms. Her eyes almost rolled back. Blood all over her that she spat out. And more blood still pooling at her mouth. Before I even took three steps from where I stood, I stopped feeling her heartbeat. And the ties of the bond are being sliced as they are being broken. The loss of a pack member. The Alpha can always feel the loss of the pack member and this time the pain is greater because she is not just my pack member but my mother. I scream at the top of my lungs as I hold her tightly in my arms.
