Chapter 3

The only light that aided his pathway was the moonlight. He adjusted his black cloak he had on, making sure he covered his face properly. He didn't want to make the mistake of giving anyone the chance of recognizing him because there were always night scavengers around. You never know which one of them was close enough to be his enemies. He kept walking further into the woods but quietly enough to hear any suspicious sound around. His eyes glowed, indicating the need for a clearer path. Just the moment he was close enough to the riverbank, he paused. "What's that awful smell?" He thought. He kept standing, but careful enough to know if there was an enemy around. "This smells like blood." He said to himself. His voice was almost like a whisper. Slowly, he began to trace down the path he could smell the blood from. And in a few minutes, he was standing right in a pool of blood, with a stack of dead bodies. "These are mundane." He said, staring in shock. He needed no one to tell him who had done this to the dead people's bodies on the floor. "Rogue wolves." He growled. Instantly, he felt the atmosphere change. The trees began to shake like they were about to be cut off due to the heavy wind. The birds quickly began to fly away, up in the sky in fear. Without turning to know what was happening, or even what had caused it, he knew the ones he talked about were present already. "You -" they growled right behind him, with their eyes glowing. "Are you here to add me to your petty feast?" He asked, his back still turned against them while he spoke without fear and with confidence. "You think all of this is petty,?" The leader of the rogue wolves, Kai, spoke. "You should be ready to be one of them because you crossed our path." Unexpectedly, he roared into a huge laughter. His voice filled the woods in echoes. At first, Kai's minions stepped back a bit. Who was this man? They thought. He has so much audacity exchanging words with their leader unlike their other prey. They only cried and begged for mercy. "I think it would be wise of you all to walk back to your hideout, and let me walk along mine. Then, there would be no need for casualties." He said to him, Kai, however, chuckled. "Is this an indirect way of begging for our Mercy?" Kai asked, taking a few slow steps towards him. Slowly, he began to make a turn in their direction. He pulled down his cloak covering his face, and his red glowing eyes stared at him. "Don't you know me?" He growled. "I've never begged for Mercy." He completed it. Kai swallowed hard immediately. He knew that his red eyes were an indication that he was either an Alpha, or he came from the lineage of Alphas. When he turned back to look at his pack, he could see the fear on their faces. They all looked back at him, giving him the sign that they had gotten the wrong prey. But, Kai would always want to prove that he was a born leader. "I don't care if you've ever or never begged for mercy. All I know is that you're never leaving here alive." He growled, while his eyes glowed blue. "Why don't you listen to your minions? They all seem to know what's real or who's the leader here more than you." "How dare you!" Kai thundered, moving closer to him. But he didn't say a word. All he did was stare at him deeply in the eyes. "You still have a chance to live." He said. But Kai only responded with a smirk. He sighed, putting back his cloak to cover his face. While he turned back and began to continue his journey. "Come back here," Kai yelled and ran towards him with his claws out ready to dig into his chest. But he was quick enough to catch his hands and threw him against the giant tree. "I would advise you better not do whatever it is you intend to do." He said to Kai's minions who had fearfully taken two steps towards him in an attempt to attack. "We both know you warned him from the start." He said, and they all turned to look at one another. "Right." He said when they stepped back, while he continued his journey. He was aware that he was running late, and also keeping his people waiting. Quickly, he walked under the guide of the full moonlight. Suddenly, he bent, with both his hands on the floor as his transformation began. He howled loudly, sending every animal in the woods back into their hideout. In no time, he was at his destination. "There he is." One of the men, Augustus, said as he walked over to him, and handed him a new cloth. "We were worried." Augustus let out as he watched him change. "I knew you would all be worried. I only encountered some foolish, hungry rogue wolves." He explained. He began to follow Augustus into their small meeting cage. "Really?" Augustus laughed. "Let me guess. They thought you were their prey?" August asked, and he nodded, causing the both of them to burst into serious laughter. When he got in, every one of them bowed their heads in respect to him as their leader. Augustus was his right hand man. He had the duty of bringing everyone together on the day of their proposed meeting. "I know we've waited far too long. So, I'll get this straight." He began and sat on the seat. "We've begun to walk on our first plan which will lead us to other bigger plans. And I need our eyes and ears open." He said. "And what about the object? How do we go about that?" Matt asked. "Easy Matt." Augustus chipped. "It's not in the possession of who we had thought. I've got an Intel of its possible location which is why this first plan of ours must work. If it does, then it's closer to us. All we have to do is catch it fast." He explained, looking from one person to another. "As the head, is it that easy to wrap around your fingers?" Matt asked again. "If he isn't, then why am I able to sneak out here every night? Shouldn't I be by his side as his trusted one?" He asked, his eyes fixed on Matt. They quickly wrapped up their meeting, ready to retire back home in order to avoid any suspicions arising. Just when he got to the door, he stopped immediately as he remembered something. "Augustus, I think we might need some rogue wolves in our team. I have the feeling that they'll come in handy."
