BRANDON’S POV
I rushed to her and I was at the verge of confronting her but when I got close to her, I realized that I had seen the wrong person. The woman was not Jenny, I was that hallucinating at that time. The lady that I had actually seen was our Genetics lecturer, Mrs. Viviane.
I was walking away but she had seen me already.
“Brandon?” She called me and I had to go right ahead to greet her.
“Hi madam Viviane.” I greeted her and I shook the hand of the gentleman that she had kissed her earlier.
“Hi Brandon, meet my husband.” She introduced me to the husband and I shook his hand once again.
“Darling, this is Brandon, one of my students who scores highly in class. He is a hardworker,” She praised me in front of his hubby.
“How are you Brandon?” The husband shook my hand.
“I am fine sir,” I greeted him back.
“Okay Brandon, tell your class that I will meet them tomorrow at exactly 8:00am in the Millennium Halls,” Mrs. Vivian told me and I smiled at her.
“Yes madam,”
“Alright, have a great day, see you around,” She told me before leaving with the husband.
I couldn’t understand this, I thought that that was Jennifer with another dude. Honestly, I wished that to happen so that my father would not remarry real quickly. I didn’t want to welcome that woman into my life. I never wanted my dad to move on from my mum.
We could just remain the two of us. That is not hard. Or am I asking for too much?
“Come on dude, you cannot just fantasize your date with Sasha like that,” Martin faltered me from my thoughts. Why is he always around?
“What the hell man, I was not thinking about Sasha,” I made it very clear.
“Come on, you should be. You should be thinking about your date. That girl loves you and you will be happy with her,” Martin told me and since I had agreed to do this long ago, I decided to listen to what he had said.
I really need to do this. Even though I don’t believe in love, I will have to do it anyway. By dating Sasha, maybe I would understand why my father wants to remarry so badly. I don't want to be mad at him forever.
“I will head home now, I know you have a class,” Martin was my best friend and therefore I knew of his timetable. Martin has always been there for me to ensure that I have a friend during those tough times including my mother’s death and I love him for that.
Anyway, now that I am okay, I don’t want him to keep sacrificing things for me. I want him to study hard.
“Are you sure that you don’t want me to hang out with you?” He asked me.
“I am fine dude, come on, go to class,” I urged him and he agreed to what I had told him. This has only happened for the first time in a very long time. He is always insisting on spending time with me.
I walked to where I had parked my car. I felt sad at the same time mad now that I was going to my dad’s. Ever since my dad come home with that woman, I felt as if he had betrayed me. He should have asked me first. He broke my relationship with him just like that.
We were supposed to be best friends. I needed him more than ever now that I had lost my mum. I really needed him.
Anyway, s**t has already happened and he was going to marry that woman, Jennifer. I have to deal with that. Anyway, I was never going to be a part of it.
I listened to some hip hop songs as I drove home. I kept telling myself that I was f*****g going to move out and leave that house for them. I value my peace more than anything and that is what I was going to do.
I had a flash disc filled with movies and that is what I was going to watch for the rest of the afternoon.
I parked my car and once I got to the house, I hastened to go up the stairs. However, I was interrupted by someone calling my name.
“Brandy,” I heard Jennifer’s voice calling me.
What the f**k! He doesn’t have to shorten my name. My mother is the only one supposed to call me by my nickname, no one else. More so now that my mother passed away, no one should call me by that name.
“Don’t ever call me that,” I told her through gritted teeth but she somehow managed to smile at me.
“Come on, I was just trying to be casual with you,” She defended herself with her fake smile that I turned to hate with so much intensity.
“Don’t! “ I shouted.
“Besides, where is my dad?Why are you here? Do you f*****g live here now?” I could feel a surge of anger in my system.
“Your dad is not around tonight,” She made it clear.
“What are you talking about?” I asked her.
“Your father wants us to bond,” She made it clear.
“You know that I will never bond with you, don’t you?” I asked her with a bit enraged tone.
“I know.” She said in a low voice.
“Then why are you insisting?” I asked her.
“It is not my piece of cake to deal with your attitude. On the contrary, I have to do this for the sake of your dad, he wants me to do this and since I love him so much, I have to do it for him. This is how people in love behave. I sacrifice to face your wrath for the sake of him. I bet you should do the same,” She told me and even if I didn’t want the words to get to me, they did.
“Why did you have to come to our life?” I asked her.
“I will take it as a yes to bonding. Your dad is out tonight and this is our perfect time to bond,” She gave me the instructions.
“Come on, but I have…” I dawdled. I was to say that I have a date.
“No buts, we are doing this for your dad,” She made it very clear.
