SIMPLE WINS

ACAD’S office was still packed with people at 7 p.m. This was normal for the kind of service the company provides. There were curious glances when Khalan approached the reception area. He was quite a sight. A refined man almost of aristocratic appearance, not to mention that he was very tall, extremely handsome and in his tieless shirt and suit. The receptionist's eyes were all set on him before he even reached the counter. "Ms. Aliyah, please. She's expecting me," Khalan gave her a slight smile. "Yes, sir, may I know your name?" The receptionist often received client visitors but never as attractive and powerful as the one standing in the reception area right now. His presence exudes profound authority. Is he the boss's boyfriend? Only a man like him could capture their boss's equally commanding presence. she thought. "Khalan Weston," he responded with a bigger smile. "This way, sir," she escorted him to her office. The ACAD office is huge, occupying the entire floor. The interior design, very modern. Very impressive, he thought. It's chic, spacious, and well-ordered. "Maybe I can have the new building styled this way." No wonder Aliyah's company was attracting clients significantly. They're a relatively new firm, but they have the right clients. His company was included in the roster of satisfied clients. Khalan saw Aliyah instantly behind her office's floor-to-ceiling glass wall. She was focused on her computer and raised her head when the receptionist knocked on her door—Aliyah nodded to the receptionist to send him inside. "Hello, honey!" Khalan approached her desk giving her a gentle kiss on her cheek. "Hi! Please make yourself comfortable. I need to finish this final design. It's time sensitive." Aliyah informed him abruptly with a slight hint of irritation. "No problem, I have food. You want to eat now?" Khalan sat on the chair in front of her desk. "Sure!" was her brief reply, without looking at him. Khalan gave her the sandwich, prepared the way she likes, and a refreshment. Aliyah has always preferred to eat light during dinner, so the sandwich was perfect. She ate it as soon as he gave it to her while continuing her work. Aliyah would forget to eat when she was working. Looking at her beside the computer, considering office work hours should have ended two hours ago, Aliyah still looked gorgeous. Khalan couldn’t help but smile. It was hard for him to take his eyes off her. "What's that look in your face?" She caught him looking at her. "I am just amazed at how beautiful you are, withstanding the day's pressure," he admitted honestly. Aliyah looked at him expressionless "Mr. Weston, please take the sofa, while I finish my work" this was the last thing she wanted when she was rushing on a project -- a distraction. Khalan laughed, accepting he made her uncomfortable, "Not a problem!" He did not argue and moved to the sofa with his food. Khalan quietly stayed there for more than an hour while he checked his emails through his smartphone. Understanding that if he disturbs her, Aliyah would be delayed in finishing.  Aliyah noticed that he had been patient while waiting for her. She must admit, his presence was also affecting her. Though, she was not sure if it was irritation or excitement. "Even the back of the man is attractive goodness. Why are you so perfectly formed, Khalan Weston? " she exhaled heavily as the thought crossed her mind. She cleared her desk and approached him. "Let's go, Mr. Weston. It's not right to keep my client waiting for too long." he was still a client, wasn't he? A very prestigious client. KD Manila is their biggest client. "Done?" He ignored her snide comment. "Yeah!" she nodded. "I'm good at waiting, right?" Khalan wanted her to know that he was not a nuisance to her work.  "You sure are. Thank you!" Even if she were mistreating him, he wouldn't complain, Aliyah noticed, if grudgingly. Before they left, Khalan pulled Aliyah closer and kissed her lips.  He wanted to do it since he arrived.  "Now, we can go!" After getting his kiss, he escorted her to the door, entwining their hands. Aliyah just shook her head. Khalan’s intrusion into her life was a reality she needed to adapt to until the duration of their agreement. The remaining people in the office watched curiously as the formidable couple walked side by side towards the exit. Khalan was holding Aliyah's hand, looking absolutely perfect together. The man must be their gorgeous boss's boyfriend, they guessed. They look stunning together, both were commanding in their own way. Khalan's car was waiting for them at the driveway with his driver. "There's no need to pick me up from work. I can always arrange for the driver to take me." Aliyah pointed out Khalan while they were inside the car. "I am doing it with absolute pleasure, its not a bother at all." was Khalan's simple answer. "If you say so." she dismissed without a qualm. "Is work always this busy?" Khalan asked her. "We are currently under staff, and projects are pouring in. I am not complaining, though." ACAD's lucky to be awarded big projects. It was a tough market out there, but they persevered to please their clients to get more referrals. Luckily, it's coming. They were loaded with work. "Can you redesign my current office?" Khalan requested from her while he gently rubbed Aliyah's hand with his thumb. "What's wrong with it?" inquired Aliyah, her eyebrows knotted. "I want it to be your style," Khalan suggested with a smirk. "Don't waste money. I've seen it, and it's still current," Aliyah knew what he was thinking. "But I want it the way you do yours," he insisted. "It won't be relevant if we do your office alone. There should be symmetry. Meaning we have to do everything. It will cost you a lot." She wanted him to stop spending money on them. "Then do it. Budget is not a problem," Khalan assured. "Why waste money? It's still good." Aliyah was exasperated. "I want to remember you each time I am in the office," he stated truthfully. "Mr. Weston! Stop flirting; it's not funny." Aliyah pulled her hand from him. "I'm serious. Just do it, Aliyah" Khalan chuckled and grabbed back her hand. "Alright, I will do some tweaking in your office alone. I will not touch the rest. But it is not anytime soon." resignedly, Aliyah agreed. "Thank you!" he was holding her hand, gently stroking it with his thumb enjoying the feeling of her soft skin. Small wins were precious, he thought. Khalan wanted to express Aliyah's importance to him little by little. He wanted her to believe that he was offering a lasting relationship this time. "Have you received the documents from my acquisition team?" he prompted. "Is it for the island? Not yet!" Aliyah exclaimed. She's very interested in the island project. "You'll receive it soon," he declared. "Good, I will design it myself," she revealed. "Really? Is it more expensive if you design it yourself?" Khalan cooed looking at her dotingly. "Will you complain if I charge you double?" That was the closest she could come to a joking. "Not at all. I can even pay you 100 times more if you want," Khalan teased. He winked at her, and she chuckled.  It was a quiet evening, no arguments, filled with laughter. It was a perfect night, after all. Khalan considered it a triumph.
