4 pm ACAD office, Aliyah's room
"Aliyah, are you out of your mind? How could you agree to move in with him again?" Since morning, Claire had been in tantrums when she found out that she moved in with Khalan as well as their agreement to live together for a month.
"Lower your voice, sissy. There are people outside," Aliyah was not bothered by her outburst, but she didn't like the staff to hear what they were talking about or know about her personal life.
Claire always wanted to protect her, no matter what. She was overreacting because she didn't want to see her hurt again.
"I'm really upset! You know what he did to you!" Claire refused to be calmed down.
"That was six years ago. I've moved on. It seems like Khalan needs this time to move on himself. It must be his guilt or something, I don’t know. Besides, he did not hurt me when he bid goodbye; I did that to my pathetic self." Aliyah revealed coldly.
Khalan had been gentle with her when they separated. It was her agony over the loss that caused her to crumble when it seemed that everything was taken away from her. It wasn't his fault, but hers. It was her weakness that got her in trouble. She would be wholly responsible for what would happen now. This was Aliyah’s point of view.
"I don't want you to be hurt again, Aliyah. Look at you now; you’ve turned so frigid." Claire couldn’t stop herself from caring about her. She had watched as Aliyah had managed to piece back all the miserable broken pieces after Khalan had left. Her coldness that had become her norm was a shield to keep her from ever being hurt again. However, Claire knew that that if anyone could breakdown Aliyah's icy shield and leave her a broken mess again that would be Khalan.
"Claire, listen, I'm not young anymore. I'm 28, and I have my needs too as a woman. Besides, that man is awesome in bed. I have yet to find a man that can elicit the same response from me as he can." The man could still take her breath away, Aliyah admitted.
She was curious as hell why it was still him. She didn't love him anymore, but then, Khalan still excites her sexually like no one else. His perseverance in pursuing her would be futile if she didn't allow it, but she had. Unfortunately, she wanted it too, if for anything else than the physical pleasure. Perhaps, living with him could help her arrive at the answers she seeks.
"Can you even hear yourself, Aliyah? I thought your coldness was just a shield. But as you are talking right now, it's as if you have no intention of entering into a stable relationship again in the future. Don't you think of having a family?" Claire’s eyes were wide open due to Aliyah's admission.
"Okay, that's two questions. Firstly - I can hear myself very well, and my priority is my work and career. It has been my lifeblood for six years. That won't change in a month of living with a man. As for your second question, the answer is No! I don't have the time to think of family. It would complicate my peace. This thing with Khalan, at least I'm familiar with him already; my body recognize him. Besides, it will be over in 30 days," Aliyah snapped crisply.
Claire raised her eyebrows, "How sure are you that it will end in 30 days?" She has doubts if what Aliyah says was true, Khalan would always be different from the men she met.
Aliyah sighed, "Assuming it won't end that early. But, in the future, if Khalan decides to leave me, I am already intimately aware of how that feels. Been there and done that. It won't cause a problem again," Aliyah was sure of what she's getting this time. Khalan couldn't hurt her again.
"I can’t help but feel uneasy about this, Aliyah! I know you are more mature now, but you are definitely playing with fire. He's the only man that was able to move you, and he's doing it again." Claire's voice cracked.
Aliyah knew her friend really cared about her. Despite being happily married which should be Claire’s priority, she remained at her side and worrying about her incessantly.
Claire was her light, her forever light. She was so lucky to have found her.
Aliyah smiled at her. "Umm. I'm touched, my friend. Thank you so much. I appreciate your concern. However, let me get through this myself," she urged, stubbornly.
Claire was right, though, no man had touched her as Khalan did. Maybe he had left some kind of a mark on her; that was why she was hesitant to fall to another man again, or no man had been persistent enough to break the icy wall that she built around herself, as Khalan determined to do. Nevertheless, Aliyah was old enough to commit mistakes. She knew how to handle herself better now.
Aliyah honestly didn't want Claire to worry. She must focus her attention on her husband and the baby in her womb. The baby didn't need a worried sick mom right now.
"How do you honestly feel about him?" Claire wouldn't be stopped easily. She couldn't allow Aliyah to go through that pain again.
Aliyah released a deep sigh, "Well, aside from the fact that he can make me reach my climactic release, I think Khalan can come and go without me being affected. I am also curious as hell why he was the only one who could bring to that fathomless abyss," She rolled her eyes when she said “climactic release” and the “unfathomable abyss." She wanted Claire to stop probing. She hoped that Claire would when she heard her using obtuse and filthy words; however, Claire was more determined than her.
"God, I'm so frightened of you, Aliyah. Where is all this indifference coming from?" what Aliyah said sent shivers down her spine.
Aliyah giggled, "I love you too, my friend, but your Aliyah is pretty tough now. Trust me on this," she winked at her.
Aliyah pushed to end their discussion by calling her secretary so she could be connected to her client.
They parted that day with so many questions left on Claire's mind. Perhaps one day, she would have to talk to Khalan. She was too afraid for her friend. She never thought she'd be this insensitive. One day Aliyah could hurt herself again if she was not careful. Claire left Aliyah's office with a heavy heart.
Later that day...
6:45 pm. Khalan's car.
"Honey! Are you good? I am in the area. Are you ready to go home now?" Kaylan was on his way to Aliyah's office. If he didn't fetch her, she'd be home very late just like the night before.
Aliyah clicked her tongue and heaved a sigh, "I lost track of time, but I will go there on my own. I still have something to finish," she muttered distantly. Realizing, it was uncomfortable when someone was waiting for her. She had been free to do whatever she pleased, but now Khalan would pester her if she didn’t give him time.
"It's alright, and I will wait for you! Be there in 15," he hung up, not allowing Aliyah to decline. It was their third day together. Khalan wanted her to become accustomed to his presence. He decided to order food instead of dining outside, knowing how much of a workaholic she is. She wouldn’t be done in an hour or so. Khalan had the food delivered to the lobby.
Khalan being a man of power had never served another individual in his entire life, the only exception was Aliyah, and he never mind serving her at all.
They have not made love since their time on the yacht. He didn't want it to be her basis for staying with him. Khalan would like Aliyah to realize his real intention and erasing from her mind the bed partner she accused him of wanting her to be.
