2589 Words
June 2014 | Queensland, Australia "Kill them all!" Violet ran faster when she heard a shout that followed by gunshots. She came from the depth of the forest where the pack of her father's great friend lived. It's an isolated and secluded part of the forest that humans can't possibly reached. Her father commanded her to stay there but her stubborn self didn't agreed. She followed the direction of the voice. Her huge wolf form jumped over the massive formation of rocks which stand as the packs boundary of their property. The moon shines bright up the sky among the millions of stars, but Violet doesn't need the light as she ran pass the forest in the cold night using her heightened vision. She growled as she felt the adrenaline rush. It was so good. But the fear for her father's life outweigh it. Violet and her father went here to visit an old friend. His name is Augustus. An Alpha of the pack. Who asked for their help saying their lives are in trouble because some group of humans were after them. Humans who specifically targeting them. Killing their kind. Their group were called the Venators, a Latin word for hunters. They hunt every single werewolf they would found. And they're not just an ordinary people. Yes, they don't have strength like they do but they have skills and weapons. A weapon that held poison that could kill a single werewolf in one shot. It was almost 7 weeks pass when the pack knew about the hunters. They heard about them from the neighboring pack who vacate as soon as they lost some of their packmates. They didn't know what the Venators wanted or what was their intentions for killing Violet's kind. But one thing they knew about. That they wouldn't stop until everyone of their kind are dead. Unbeknown to the pack, the Venators were secretly searching and hunting them down. And in just a couple of weeks, the hunters found out where they lived. And now, in this very moment was the time they decided to attack. The pack fought back although unprepared. Some of the strongest wolves on the pack began to attack forward before the Venators could pass the boundary. Including her father. Violet can't point the exact location of where her father was because of lots of noises. They were everywhere and it was bothering her. Hunters were shouting and repeated gunshots can be heard. There were cries and whimpers. Tearing of fleshes. Werewolves fighting against Venators. In the midst of her running, Violet suddenly halted when she saw a body of a wolf that was laying on a pool of blood. It's eyes was still open but void of emotion. She knew him. He was from the pack. There was an open wound that can be seen on his left breast. Violet can't hear his heartbeat anymore. He was already dead. Not even able to shift back to his human form before his last breath. Violet felt horrified both for the scene in front of her and for their safety. These people really wanted them dead. And now, she needed to find his father. She ran as fast as she can with an unstable mind. She don't know what to do. She knew she was strong and brave even in an early age. She and her father always had an extreme training everyday and she can even fight for her own. But she's not prepared for this one. This is real war. "Violet ! Stay back!" her father's tensed voice came to her mind. And with that, Violet knew where he was. She turned right and doubled her speed. But as she ran faster, something hit her leg. She turned back and looked at it. It was a dart like thing sticking on her leg. She can feel the liquid flowing from it through her veins. It was a tranquilizer. Normally used for wild animals. It can knock them out in just a few seconds. But for Violet, it was nothing. The training with her father involved various tranquilizers and other things that can weakened them. At first time she was shot by it, it took her down, but in years of practicing she got immune. But maybe not in this time as she felt the light dizziness. Even her limbs were starting to quiver. Violet ignored the fact that it was affecting her. She doesn't even pay attention unto where the dart came from or whoever the culprit is. She just needed to get to her father. She didn't lessen her speed even though her visions starting to blur. But the numbness starting to crawl up to her upper limbs and it made her slow. And as it spread to her body it started to cause pain. She didn't stop despite of it because it was still bearable. But then the pain suddenly became excruciating. It cause her to halt. She started to whimped as she felt the pain spreading throughout her veins. "Violet!" Her father called. She tried to focus on his voice but she can't concentrate. Her heartbeat quickened. Her breathing were shallow. With all the force left in her body she immediately shifted back. As soon as she was in her human form, she knelt down, bowing her head. Both of her hands was on the ground. She firmly close her eyes and shake her head. Hoping against hope that the dizziness will falter. "Don't try to fight it." A deep and groggy voice of a man said. His Aussie accent was obvious. A native in here. Violet didn't dare to lift her head and just continue to even her breathing. "I suggest ya' just calm down." He said and he walk afterwards. He stopped in front of Violet. An old and dirty black boots appeared on her line of view. "Don't worry kid. It can't kill ya. It will just put ya in a deep sleep." He said laughing at the end of his sentence. Violet tried to lift her head and move up but because she doesn't have enough strength, her body completely fell to the ground. She groaned and layed sideways. Her naked body was fully exposed to the man's eyes. But instead of lust, what she witness on those eyes where hatred and disgust. Even in a blurry vision she stared at him. He was wearing a thick jacket in a dark green color. He has a scraggy beard and his slightly long hair was tied up messily. Few gray hairs can be seen. He looked like he's in his forties. And on his arms was a dart gun. A thing that use to shoot her. The man crouched down. Then he stared at Violet's body back to her face. He scanned her from head to toe and those stares were somewhat sinister. A human with an evil plan. But what bothered her is that this man was a little familiar to her. Like she have seen him somewhere, especially those eyes. "Such unlucky child. Ya' were born as one of those monstrous creature." He said before he held up Violet's chin. "Ya' had an innocent looking face. Yet I know what lies behind on that facade of yours. A beast. " He smirked. Violet harshly turned her head away from his hold and glared back at him. "Why are you doing this? What do you want?" she said in a slightly trembled voice. A repeated gunshots were fired nearby. There's a commotion but Violet can't clearly point out her father's voice. "Looks like my men are having a tough time there." The man said looking at the direction of the noises. "But I will surely meet them later carrying the ripped heads of your kind." He then looked back at Violet with a smug. It boiled her blood. She can't wait to gained back her strength and torn his every flesh with her deadly fangs until nothing left that can be recognized. "What do you want?" She growled. The man just stared at her a little longer. Void of any emotion. "They were things better left unsaid. At least for you." He put down his dart gun on the ground and carefully took another weapon that was clutched on his back. A Winchester Model 1987 shotgun. "But if you're so eager to know." He continued and took something on the small pouch that was hanged on his waist. An ammo. He loaded it to the gun. "Just remember the phrase, an eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth." He ended his sentence and stood up. Violet thought hard. She got puzzled a bit but when she saw the two little scars on his left eye that's not very visible, she immediately knew. That's why he seem familiar. She saw him on the news. This man is the grieving father and husband to a woman and three children who died last year. The news said they were attack by the savage wolf on the house that they were staying during their vacation. But it brought suspicious to the world of their kind. They knew it wasn't a normal wolf that attacked them just based on how gruesome they died. It probably be the rogue ones. As for this man, last seen by the media on his family's burial, just vanished. People thought he migrated and moved on. But the world underestimated him. It looks like he didn't believe the authorities. He was smart enough to know what truly killed his family. And now his taking revenge. "You're making a mistake." Violet said shutting her eyes hard for a moment to fight the dizziness. "It's... it's not them." The man just laughed. Amazed on how she instantly knew him. "We can help you find the one who killed your family." The man stop laughing and stared at Violet. He crouched again. "Thanks for the offer kid. But those fuckin' bastard were long gone now. They died on my own hands." He replied and grab down the collar of his jacket. "See this? They left me with it." He showed the three long scars that mark down from his neck down to his chest. A werewolf's claw. "Bet they're not that strong enough to kill me." He mocked and stood up again. "But this pack didn't do anything. They're innocent." Violet pointed as the commotion from afar has finally toned down. "So please leave us alone. You already have your justice. "Killing those bastard were so satisfyin'. It really is." He replied before taking a deep breath. "But then, everytime I close my eyes at night, I can't unthink of the fact that there's still so many of ya'. So many fuckin' beast that wandering around the whole world who's lurking around waiting for their prey. Killing them afterwards like some kind of meat." The man continuously said with much hatred on his voice. "I won't let it happen again. I won't let you harm others just like what you did to my family. I will kill ya'll before another one of your fuckin' kind victimize some innocent people again. I will kill ya'll until no one left of ya'." He continued. "We're not killers!" Violet insisted. Her weakened body trembled more both from the tranquilizer and anger. "We're not like them. We don't harm or kill anyone. We are just living our lives just like yours. We're just like humans!". "You're not humans! You're monsters ! Ya'll are!". Violet was more hurt emotionally rather than physically after hearing all those words. All of her life, she tend to forced herself to avoid hurting humans. That was one of her packs rule. Because humans don't have strength and agility like they do . Her parents always warned her not to feel superior to them just because she is stronger. They even care and sometimes save them from danger. Her parents thought her to respect humans even most of them don't deserve it. In short, violence to humans was against their rule. The trainings they did everyday was just to defend themselves for any possible harm against other packs and to whom who have gone feral. But yet, here it is, they were still labeled as monsters. "I'm gonna kill you." was all she needed to say. She had enough of this man. He was unstoppable. He laughed again for a brief moment before he talks. "I know kid. I know ya' can kill me. I can see how strong ya' are. I'm actually quite impressed that you're still conscious by now. Despite of the shot I gave ya'. You're not like your other friends who were knocked out after I hit them. Which actually gave me a chance to kill them however I want." He mocked. The man step a few feet backwards when Violet suddenly lunged forward, growling at him. Her eyes were bright and dilating and her fangs were slowly visible. She tried to turn to her wolf form but the pain was stopping her. The more she exert force, the more she suffers. Her growled turn into a whimper. "Fascinating." the man mumbled and breath out. But his comment was more of a sarcasm rather than a compliment. "Ya' know kid. You're really brave, you're strong and smart. And I admit that you had a pretty face too. My daughter's right about ya'. Ya' indeed had a potential to be an Alpha. Bet ya' can replace your father anytime soon." Violet just responded a weak growled. She can't wait to gain her strength to kill this horrible man. But what got her attention was the man mentioning his daughter. She didn't know he still had a family. It didn't revealed on the news. "If it's in different circumstances, I prefer ya' to be her friend. Ya' tagged along so well. But humans and monsters like you can't be buddies, mate." She didn't know what this man was talking about. But she had a bad feeling about it. "Wh-" "I saw how she grew fond of ya'. Ya' got her hooked with your alluring yet dangerous persona. But despite of that, I'm glad she's still on the mission. I'm really proud of my wise and sweet Vittoria." A particular face came to her mind after mentioning that name. That's when the continuous yet faint growling suddenly stopped. Another pain was added to her system but it's not physical. It's like deeply inside of her. 'No. It can't be.' she thought. She's smart enough to know what he was talking about. The late night meet ups, the deep talks, the sweet and friendly gestures, was all a ploy. She was betrayed by the person she thought she can trust. "No." She whispered. A single tear fell on her right eye. She was so much invested on the pain that she felt that she didn't even noticed that the man's shotgun was already aiming on her. "I'm sorry, but nows the time. I bet ya' said your goodbyes to her." he said. She looked up. And stared at the man's eyes. She's more hurt than frightened. How could this man let her daughter befriend her just so they can take information and attack them? She wanted to end his life for what have he done. But she was so fragile both from the physical and emotional pain to do so. What will she do? Is this the end of her? "G'bye, kid "
