The town's local diner was nearly packed of costumers just an hour ago but there's only a few left now. Four tables are currently occupied. A married couple that seems to be in their mid thirties, were sitting at the table besides the door while eating their lunch as they chitchat. A lady that looks like a school principal was on the next table. She was quietly waiting for her ordered foods while talking someone on the phone.
The two other tables were occupied by the one who ordered a creamy pasta that's only been eaten a little and the other one who ordered hamburger with fries that's barely eaten at all.
Violet is pretending to be chatting someone on the phone while stealing some glances towards the girl who sat from the far end table. She only wore a maroon cap and an army green hoodie as a cover. She tried to hide her face to not be known but it's like she wouldn't need it to since her mate was so lost in her mind that she's not even aware of her surroundings.
The auburn haired girl sighed for a ninth time as she absentmindedly dipped the fries on the ketchup and kept twirling it around the plate, like a paintbrush in a canvass. She's been like that for about an hour ago. It's a good thing Violet followed her. She wouldn't just let her wander off the town center by herself on that state. She don't want to repeat what happened to her last time when she was all alone.
Two hours ago.
Violet's thoughts were washed away as she catches up her mate's scent again. She turned her head towards the entrance door and there she saw Skye and her sister, who she known to be as Maddison, just got out from the store. They were pushing a cart full of groceries towards the parking lot. Maddison was talking something about a wedding but Skye was barely listening. The brunette just stared at them, mostly at her alone.
When they reached their car, Maddison opened the back door and carefully placed the groceries inside. Skye was quietly helping her. She's not talking at all and just nodding at what was her sister is asking.
It's just took about five minutes when they finished placing the groceries. Maddison closed the back door and walk around to the driver's side with giddiness. But before she can open the car door, Skye called her.
"Is it okay if I can stay here for a while?" She softly asked.
Maddison mood changes in an instant. "Why? Is there is there a problem?" She worriedly asked her sister.
"N-nothing." Skye replied as she scratches her right eyebrow and not entirely looking at her sister. "I just want to have a cup of coffee. " She added with a shrugged and a quick smile at the end.
"Skye." Maddison called her. Her voice was firm but there's softness in her eyes.
"Please, Maddie. I haven't drink coffee for like ages ago and I've heard their coffee taste good in here. And didn't worry, It's just one cup, I promise." Skye quickly replied as she raised her right hand.
The woman sighed before she walk back around to where Skye stood and took her left hand and held it. "That's not what I'm worrying about. What's wrong?" She softly asked her younger sister.
Skye opened her mouth but closed it again when her sister added. "Don't lie to me. I know there's something wrong. You've been quiet since we left the store." She said as she crossed her arms.
The younger one sighed and clenched her jaw as she tried to look elsewhere. "Dad called." She said quietly.
Maddison slowly uncrosses her arms. "What did he say?" She asked. Half worried and half curious.
"Nothing important." She half shrugged. " But we fought again. As usual." She added with a humorless chuckle.
Maddison went silent. She didn't asked her sister further questions. She knew how their relationship went after their mom died. She wanted to comfort her sister everytime they had an argument but Skye was keeping herself distant. She likes to be alone rather than to keep accompanied by. Her sister's been like that since she left home to study. And she felt a little guilty about it.
Maddison caress her sister's arm and smile at her. "Okay. Just call me if you're done and I'll fetch you up."
"No,no." Skye quickly replied, shaking her head. "It's okay, you don't have to. I'll just ride a bus."
The older one titled her head a little. "That's not a good idea Skye." She said sternly.
"Oh Maddison, I'm not a child anymore." Skye tiredly huffed and rolled her eyes.
"Our house is far from the bus stop." Maddison replied.
"Don't overact. It's just a ten minutes walk." The auburn haired girl replied with a slight grimaced. "And don't worry, I'll be at home before it gets dark." She quickly added.
Maddison just keep looking at her sternly but when Skye showed her puppy eyes and said "pretty please," she gave in eventually.
"Okay, okay, That's enough. You're not cute." Her sister playfully said and they both chuckle.
"Thank you, Maddie." Skye said with a smile. "Can you tell Martha that I'm sorry? I don't her to be kind of upset." She added seriously.
Maddison chuckled and then patted Skye's arm. "Don't worry, she'll understand. Although she might get sad cause her favorite daughter-in-law can't have a taste on all of her delicious cake recipes but, I can handle the mood." She said which brought a smile to Skye's face.
"If you say so." Her short reply.
"So do you need cash?" Maddison asked and was about to get her wallet but Skye stop her.
"No need. I have an extra."
"Okay then. Be careful okay?" Maddison said and got back to the driver's side. But not without giving Skye a stern look.
"I will be. I promise." She replied with a tight smile.
Maddison just nodded before she got inside the car. Skye took a step back when the car moved out from the parking lot. Maddison gave her a wave before she droved away.
Skye was silently standing there while looking at her sister's car as it got far away. All the while was unaware from Violet's stares.
Her mate took a deep breath before she took a steps away from the parking lot with an unreadable face. Violet just followed her move until she's gone on her sight.
The brunette knew she had a promised to herself that she would stay away from her mate but her protective inner wolf can't just let her be alone on herself.
Violet closed her eyes and clenched her jaw before she dialed a number on her phone.
"I gotta go." She said as soon as the other line answered.
"What? Why? What happened?" Abby curiously and worriedly asked.
"I'll leave the car to you.You can go home if you're done. Don't wait for me." She replied then ended the call quickly.
She took the maroon cap on the dashboard and the army green hoodie that was on the backseat before she got out on her car and walked fast to where her mate is.
