"Well if that's the case, then I have nothing to worry about." Martha replied before she leaned herself closer to Skye. "I just hope these kids were keeping you a good company." She whispered and a teasing smile flastered on her face as she moved back. Which causes the wrinkles on the sides of her eyes to be slightly visible. "Oh, I might have doubts in it." Skye played along. She didn't intend to whisper it back and said it out louder instead. She knew that everyone still heard about what the older woman whispered. "Woah dude." Seamus was the one who reacted first. A crumbs of cake fell on the table all the way from his mouth when he speak. It landed on the side of the table were there was a certain amount of beer that he also spilled a while ago. Making the crumb half drenched in it. He took it as fast as he could and put it back to his mouth again. Chewing it like it didn't fell and probably tasted like a strawberry-beer-soaked-cake. "Eww, gross." Piper said with grimaced as she slowly put back down her spoon. Slightly loosing appetite seeing what her friend did. "We are the coolest group in this town. Just so you know." Seamus added, ignoring the girl's comment beside him. Who just rolled her eyes. "Yeah, he's right." Piper chimed in. Turning her attention away from Seamus and looked at the rest. "We are the coolest. He's the only boring one." The brown haired girl added and it earn a laugh from Eric who sat across them, already done eating his share of cake. "Excuse me, Miss. I think you meant that..." He casually said with a lopsided grin. An over boosting confidence oozing out from him, not even minding what piper said. "I'm the only one who brings the fun out of you." He finished his sentence with a wink. The grin on his face is not faltering a bit. "Oh really?" Piper fired back. Turning her whole body to faced him. "Well to let you know, your definition of fun is trouble, so it's not fun at all." She crossed her arms and raised her eyebrow. "What?" Seamus smirked. "You're just saying that cause you're jealous of me. Cause you know the fact that I'm the fun here and you're the boring one." He added before he took the last piece of his cake from his plate. Piper gasped. "You wish dummy!" The boy just continue eating. He doesn't even care what the brown haired girl called him. He was just so cool about it. He didn't even said anything back but the teasing smile on his face was enough to add to Piper's annoyance. "I will never get jealous of the fact that you always dragged us in trouble. Everytime damn time! " Piper retorted, practically shouting as she uncross her arms. "Kids! Stop that!" Martha butted in. Skye nearly forgot that she was still standing there beside her because of how fascinated she was on the banterin between the cat and dog duo of the group. They always fight and mocked each other everytime they get a chance to. And Skye can't help to be an amused audience. She had fun watching them. As well as the others on the table, but well, except for Martha obviously. "Uh huh. How can you say that?" Seamus challenged. Not even hearing what the older woman said. He already finished his food and turned to face the girl. He looked at her with a bored face, his usual way of annoying her. "In case you forgot about what happened five years ago, I'll let you remember." Piper started. Annoyance was evident on her small face. Her forehead scrunched and there's like an invisible fire coming out from her. "We nearly burnt a quarter area of the woods because of your stupid idea of making the bon fire larger and taller! " She finishes with a huffed. Seamus just snickered at her before he replied. "In case you also forgot," he said mimicking her tone, "it was your idea in the first place." "Yeah it is. But the idea of making it bigger enough for the nearby trees to catch the uncontrollable flames it made, because you said it was cool that way, was your idea! " "Which you agreed by the way. So it's partly your fault." He replied back with a smug on his face. Piper went silent for a while. She bit her lip trying to contain her anger as she stared daggers at Seamus. The girl maybe a ball of sunshine and had a softest heart with an over flowing kindness and giddiness but in a short period of time being with them, Skye knew the girl wouldn't back down. Her vote was always on her. The brown haired girl took a deep breath and crossed her arms again. She held her chin up and stared at Seamus with a stoic face. That action caused a smile to appeared on Skye's lip as she was right about her. "Do you know why I agreed?" She said as she raised her right eyebrow. "Because I felt sorry for being mean to you about your height the other day. Which in this moment I have realized that I shouldn't felt sorry about what I said back then because all that I said was true and you're just so insecure about your height that you can't accept the fact that I'm younger than you but I'm much taller than you that's why you think I was being mean to you!" The petite girl ranted which earned a gasped from the people around the table. "And now, you're still insecure because we're nearly as the same height, which you shouldn't be because an average height for a man should be three inches taller than me! " Piper catches her breath as soon as she finishes her sentence. There's a silence for a couple of seconds after her outburst. And then suddenly a laughter erupted on Eric's mouth while the other three ladies were trying to hold theirs. It's like her words hit Seamus hard in the gut as the teasing look he had awhile ago quickly changed into anger. He turned at Eric's direction when the latter's laugh didn't died down a bit. "So-orry, m-man." Eric manage to say between his laugh."I j-just..." He said but stop as he shook his head and clutch his stomach, unable to end his fits of laughter. Seamus's nose is fuming when he turned to look at Piper again. The girl had a winning side grin. Earning the victory she had on their never ending mocking competition. "What? Cat got your tongue?" She smirked and said. "You." Seamus replied pursing he's lips, not sure what to say to defend himself. "I'm what?" Piper said with sassiness on her voice. Like a real mean girl. "You." Seamus said again as he breath harder trying to find a word to say. "Seamus." "What?!" The short but bulky framed teenage boy turned his head in a whiplash to the person who called his name. His angry face turned down quickly when he recognized the person. "Why are you raising your voice at me?" A chubby woman that aged around mid fifties stood in front of him with both of her hands on each side of her hips. She is short, shorter than Seamus actually. Maybe in 4'11. Her black hair that had streaks of graying hair was tied up in a bun. "I-I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't know it was you." Seamus stuttered and his face paled a bit. The woman sighed and as Skye look at her she can see the resemblance between the two. "Get your ass up kid and go to your father. He needed your help." She said in command. Skye's got a little goosebumps the way she talks. It even cause a silence around the table. Eric who's struggling to end his laugh eventually stop. Who who'd think such a tiny old woman could be this scary? She's reminding her of the short haired woman with glasses on the Incredibles movie. "But I'm still enjoying the party." Seamus whined like a child. "The party's not going to end until midnight young man. So you still have time to enjoy later. For now, I want you to help your father." She said still with intensity on her eyes. "Hurry up or I'll feed you out to the wild bears." She added when her unimpressed son didn't move to stand. Skye grimaced at what she said. Other moms would smacked their child's head or keep them grounded as a threat but not to feed them to the bears. Seamus mother is really scary and she's even serious about those words that Skye thought that she would do it for real. Seamus groaned and stood up begrudgingly. Unwilling to move but had no choice. "I'm sorry kids." The tiny yet scary woman faced them as her arms fall to her hides. "I'm stealing my son away for a while." She said as Seamus just walked passed her with a frown. Piper quickly gave her a smile and speak. "It's okay, Agnes. You're actually doing us a favor." Seamus who was already a couple of meters away from them turned around and glared at the brown haired girl. The latter just stuck her tongue out at him when Agnes turned around to leave and pushed her son from his back to go walk on further. "She's scary." Skye commented as soon as the two were gone. Martha chuckled. "Well most of the mother's are. But don't worry, that's just the way she is. You'd think she's scary but she's actually nice." She added with a smile. "I agree." Eric chimed in before he took a sip on his beer. "But I'm not gonna lie. I'm kind of jealous of her sometimes cause she get her children to follow her in an instant, unlike mine. I'm not saying that they're not listening to me. It's just that there's a particular one whom I had a hard time to. And I guess you knew who it was." "Mom!" Martha immediately stop talking and they both turned their heads around to the direction of the voice. It was Roland. Standing beside the table where Levi, Maddie and his wife Maya were sitting at. All of them were holding a cup of beer except for Maddison who chose to had a fruit punch. "Ugh! Speaking of the devil." Martha huffed and Skye can't help but laugh at her distress. "Mom! Come here! I need to ask you something!" Roland shouted again. Signalling his hand to his Mother to come over with a foolish grin on his face. They were actually at the other end side of the yard but his voice surprisingly booming above the music. Martha sighed and faced the auburn haired girl. "Well, that's my cue. I need to leave before he start a tantrum." She said and Skye nodded while trying to hold her laugh. "Enjoy the party okay? If you need anything just come find me. I'll be around." She added with smile as she squeeze Skye's shoulder lightly. "Okay Martha." She replied with a smile too."Thanks for the cake by the way." She quickly added when the woman was about to leave. "Oh you're always welcome sweetie." Martha patted her cheek lightly. "Mom!" Martha rolled her eyes and walked away after saying, " Bye for now," to Skye . Skye looked at her retreating figure before she turned her attention back to her friends at the table. Vanessa gave her a timid smile and patted the vacant seat to her right and she sat on it. "She really likes you." The ash brown haired girl commented as soon as Skye sat beside her. Skye look at her with a side grin and said ."Oh really? I thought she's just being nice to everyone." "She is. But it's different with you." Vanessa replied. "That's right." Piper chimed in. "Although Martha had two beautiful and kind daughters in law, she always look for you. Like everytime she make us deliver her apple pie, she always make sure you had one. And everytime your sister comes to their house, she always asked about you. She even got so worried when it happened to you, you know. She kind of get saddened when you said you wanted to leave." There's a silence for a moment after Piper said it. Skye was glad to know that Martha cares about her even she just met her in a short period of time. She admits that she love how Martha care for her like her mother would. Although it made her miss her mother more but she still glad that there is someone who wanted to treat her like a daughter. Something that she didn't got to her dad's wife. "I couldn't agree more. I think if she ever granted a daughter, she wanted her to be like you." Eric concluded, lightly bobbing his head on the music as it eventually gets louder. "Well, I couldn't blame her! I'm the coolest! " Skye replied, grinning. "Ugh! I thought Seamus was the only one who had a big head in this group." Piper rolled her eyes with a playful grin before she chugged on her cup of juice. Vanessa shook her head lightly while Eric and Skye snickered. "You know I'm just kidding." Skye replied. "Whatever." Piper said with a half shrugged. "But you're right though, you're the coolest. Cause you just did the most daring dare we had since the beginning of our game." Eric said as he turned his head and body to Skye's direction. Vanessa was between them so he titled his head on the left and added with a foolish grin on his face. "Imagine kissing Violet Adams dude?" Eric was about to say something more but instantly stop when Vanessa turned to him. Closing his mouth abruptly and repositioning his body on the chair. Like a student that was being scolded. "Y-yeah, I guess." Skye replied with a blush crept on her face. She cleared her throat and drink on her beer and subtly looking around so they wouldn't see how red her cheeks are. Eversince it happened, Skye always had the same reaction everytime Eric or Seamus mentioning about it. She doesn't know either why such a sudden quick kiss can instantly make her blush and turned the heat on her body. It's not the first time that she had kissed a beautiful stranger to be honest. But it was different. There's like something that she can't pinpoint but she knew she wanted more. Skye already talked to the squad about what happened on the day she got to apologize to Violet. At first they didn't believe her, Skye was so confused back then why they wouldn't, but when Vanessa said that she witnessed their interaction at the lake, they believed it right away. She doesn't know why, but it's like the twins had a hold of the three. They respect them so much. Skye understood it since the twins are older than them but it seems like they show more than respect. They have a lot of trust in the twins and sometimes they obey without hesitation. "Ow!" Skye's line of thought was interrupted when Piper exclaimed. She winced while rubbing her right upper arm. A little boy that is wearing a black t-shirt and a little dirtied gray short came running towards them. He picked up the soccer ball besides the empty chair and looked up. "I'm sorry, Piper." he sincerely said catching his breath while wiping the sweat on his forehead with his vacant hand. "Toby." Piper gasped as she look at the boy. "This is the second time today that you had hit me with a soccer ball. I might get bruises if you keep doing that." she added as her shoulder slumped. "I'm really really sorry. I won't do it again, I promise." the boy said as he raise his right hand. He had a missing front tooth which Skye find cute. He is maybe around five years old and he also had a tan skin just like most of the people in their neighborhood. "Do you really promise it?" Piper asked him and crossed her arms. "Are you really sure? " "Yes, I do. Cause I think I'm doing better now. I just need a little more practice." the boy replied. "Is that so?" Piper asked again. Her right eyebrow perked as the boy nodded his head. "Okay then, go and practice more." The brown haired girl shushed him away with a smile on her face to let him know that she is okay. And it brought a smile to the little boy's face before he walk back to his friends. Skye suddenly missed her two little twin brothers as she stared at the little boy. They were about the same age now. She love them very much even though she doesn't like their mother. She always make time for them. Play with them. They had a great bond. But now, she's starting to worry if the twins was still looking for her or even remember her because the last time she saw them was when they were three years old. "Are you okay Skye?" Vanessa asked when she noticed that Skye went silent beside her. "Oh yeah. I just remembered something." She replied with a sad and timid smile. Vanessa wanted to ask more but decided not to and just turned her attention to Eric and Piper's conversation. They were talking about a movie. Skye was not really listening to them as she was busy looking at the little kids that were playing soccer about eight meters away from them. Skye smiled as she saw their improvised goal. A medium size circular trash bin that without a lid. Toby jumped when he made a goal. His two teammates high fives while one of their opponent took the ball out on the bin. They started the game again. One of Toby's teammate kicked the ball passed to the other one with a green shirt. He caught it but he was struggling to passed it to his other teammates because an opponent was blocking him. Toby shouted and was signalling him to passed the ball. He was busy walking backwards when he suddenly bumped to someone. He nearly fall forward but the person caught him before his face landed on the ground. The boy turned and looked up. He was about to say his apology but immediately closed his mouth when he saw it's face. Shocked written on his face when he saw an he immediately ran back to his friends when the person let go of his shoulders. It was a man. His wearing a white tee and a dark ripped jeans. He was tall, maybe as tall as Levi. His body was not as big as Roland but he had more lean muscles. It was like he always go to the gym. He was looking at the opposite way so Skye can't see his face. But it seems like he knew that someone is watching him so he turned around. Skye caught off guard but she didn't turned her head way. It doesn't like his checking him out, she was just curious. She's not into boys really but the man was surprisingly look good. He had a thick eyebrows, proportional nose and square jawline. But what got her attention was the way he was looking at her. He's face is stoic but his eyes says something. It's like he knew her. But maybe that's all in her head.
