The birds are chirping as the rays of the afternoon sunlight peeked through the thick shades of tall trees. The afternoon breeze and the smell of leaves and woods that's lingering in the air brought calmness to Skye's mind and body as she carefully walk through. Although she is particularly looking for something for about four minutes now, she still enjoys the moment.
Just a while ago she was playing soccer with the kids in Levi's neighborhood when one of them kicked the ball towards the wood. The auburn haired girl was a bit shocked when the little boy named Jonas kicked it hard and further away. It's like the boy had a golden feet and a strength of professional athlete when he did it. Skye haven't even kick that hard in her entire life even she was twice bigger than him.
She quickly erased the thought when her head started throbbing. She didn't even drink much but it's like she's starting to have an headache, so she needed to stop thinking on nothing. She partly blame it on the kid who kicked the ball that hit her head.
Skye shook her head lightly, she shouldn't have played with them on the first place. If her friends just hadn't left her alone on the table she wouldn't be on the woods, patiently looking for the ball with an impending headache. Now, she and her friends were the ones to blame for herself.
She stop mid tracks and stood with both of her hands on the side of her hips as she took a deep breath. Carefully scanning her surroundings.
Where did it go? She asked herself.
She was certain that the ball went here. And even the boy kicked it hard it wouldn't get that far. But the ball was nowhere to be found now. She started to get impatient.
Skye look back at the party. She can clearly hear the music from there. And also the laughter of the people. She wanted to go back and just sit and eat and drink even if she's alone on the table but stop herself when she thought about the kids. She doesn't want them to get disappointed and sad if she came back empty handed.
She close her eyes for a moment and sighed. She regrets volunteering herself. She should've let the kids find the ball.
When she opened her eyes and turned around, she nearly stumbled backwards when she got startled by the person in front of her. Her right hand was on her chest as she stared at him with a confused reaction.
"Hey." The guy said with a lopsided grin. He was standing a few feet away from her while he passes a ball back and forth on both of his hands. The same ball that Skye was looking for.
She knew him. But just his name though. Jackson.
Skye saw him a while ago at the party. With that very same grin he had on his face now.
"Skye? Skye ! " The auburn haired turned her head in a whiplash on Piper's direction with a confused face.
"What?" She replied.
"We're asking you if it was okay with you." Piper tilted her head and patiently waits for her answer.
But Skye just cluelessly stared at her unable to catch up to their conversation. She glanced over at Vanessa and Eric and the two were both waiting for her reply too.
"Okay with what?" She asked Piper again still confused.
The latter huffed. "My God Skye. Where have you been?!" She exclaimed.
Skye suddenly heard a faint laughter from the distance. She turned her head towards it. It was the guy. He was still standing there, facing and staring towards their table with an amused grin. Skye eyebrow perked at him.
Is he laughing at her ? She thought. But he can't possibly overheard them from the table since the music is loud.
"What's the matter Skye?" Vanessa asked her softly but enough for her to hear. She touched her hand that was on the table.
But that question was not answered when suddenly the music stops. She and her friends started to look around. The few people who dance and the others who drink and eat stop what they're doing and had the same confused reaction on their faces.
"Hey guys, don't stop the music. It's just me." The same guy whom Skye had a staring contest with said to everyone. He had a smug grin on his face. Lowkey saying that he's the main reason why the party came to a halt.
Skye thought he was just being conceited or probably kidding. But it seems like he was indeed the reason as the people around didn't laugh at what he said. Some even shared curious glances.
She doesn't know what is happening . She started to asked her friends but was stop when she heard someone laughed.
It was Roland. He walked towards the guy. Carefully passing through their neighbors who standing on his way. He chugged the beer on his hand and throw away the empty cup. He had a big grin on his face when he came to him.
"Hey there man." Roland said but they didn't do fist bump or shoulder bump like most guys do and just opted with a nod. "What's up?"
The guy chuckled lightly. "Nothin'. I'm just having a walk when I heard a music. I didn't know there's a party here."
Skye intently listening to their conversation. The talk alone hadn't have a problem but there's something the way Roland stood. He had his arms crossed on his chest while looking at him. His stance seems like a lion that was being territorial.
"It's my day." He said with a lopsided smile.
The guy snorted as and shook his head lightly.
"Well, happy birthday then." He said as he casually put both of his hands on the pockets of his jeans. Not even intimidated by him.
"Where are you heading to?" Roland asked.
Roland waited for his answer as well as the others. Skye's was the one who felt awkward on their part because the whole people in the neighborhood were listening to them. But the two didn't even bothered.
The guy sighed and think through seriously. He then glanced towards Skye and a faint smile flastered on his face.
"Umm, back to the woods, I guess. Since I'm not welcomed here." he replied. He waited for Roland's reply but the big man didn't even gave him. He was just standing in front of him deep in thoughts. "I think I'll go now." the guy added and was about to leave when Roland stop him.
"You can join us if you want." he offered.
It earned a soft gasped from Piper but the girl instantly covered her mouth with her hand when Vanessa looked at her.
"Come and have a drink with us." Roland added as he uncrossed his arms and nod his head towards the table with a timid smile. And walk back to where he was awhile ago not even waiting for the guy's reply. "Hey guys. It's okay. Start the music!"
The guy chuckled. "Well, I wouldn't turn down an offer." he said as he followed him. But not without glancing to Skye's direction with the same look he gave her a while ago. But with a amused grin on his face this time.
'What's with him?' she asked herself.
