The Dead is Walking

Back at the dining hall, John was sitting alone with his friend from Africa as the rest of the students have retired to their hostels. “Mehn, I am missing African dishes as mama use to make it,” John said. “Oh boy, I can feel you,” Emma replied. “The last time I visited your home the dish your mama prepared was awesome,” Emma added. “We have to endure till we return home,” John said as he stands to stretch his body. “I plan on working in Canada after my studies,” Emma replied. “Why Canada?” John asked. “I just feel like changing location to learn as many cultures as possible,” Emma replied. “Very well then,” John said.

“I am already feeling sleepy mehn,” John said. “Okay bro, see you tomorrow then,” Emma replied. “That reminds me,” Emma said as he called back John. “Hope you are coping with your roommate from Brazil?” Emma asked John. “Yeah! He is a nice guy,” John replied. “Great! We see tomorrow,” Emma said as he walks in another direction.

Back at the staff quarters, Prof Liu and Dr. Frank could not hold down the dead as they called for help, but Jessica and Davis only stand to watch. The rest of Prof Liu’s team held the dead but unfortunately for one of the men the dead walker bite him as he tried to hold him by the neck. This troubled Prof Liu and Dr. Frank who could not help but had to leave the dead walker.

Not long enough after leaving the dead walker alone, the woman that was been eaten by the dead walker stood up and started making her way to them. “Thank goodness!” Davis exclaimed seeing that the woman is on her feet. Davis attempted walking up to the woman to check if she was okay but Jessica stopped him, “What are you trying to do?” Jessica asked Davis as she was blocking him.

“What does it look like I am doing?” Davis replied. “Trying to save a life which I flew all the way from Brazil to China to learn,” Davis replied. “Don’t you see what is going on already?” Jessica asked Davis as she was still resisting him. “That woman is infected,” Jessica added. “Infected by what?” Davis asked. “She just needs help,” Davis added. “Definitely not your help,” Jessica replied.

Prof Liu and Dr. Frank have run out of ideas on how to stop the woman and their test subject who fed on the woman. Seeing Davis arguing with Jessica, Dr. Frank walked up to them and said, “Bring your voices down; we don’t want to draw attention.” As Dr. Frank was still cautioning Davis and Jessica, the woman who has been infected grabbed one of Prof Liu’s team members from behind and bites him. “Ahhh!” the man screamed.

Prof Liu left his first partner who was previously bitten to help the man being bitten by the woman. The weight of the woman pushed the man down as she was still holding the man biting him. At this, Davis realized that a bite from the dead walker can infect anyone bitten. “We need to leave,” Davis said to Jessica. “No one is going anywhere,” Dr. Frank said as he blocks them from leaving.

“You can’t stop us,” Jessica said. “We are out of here,” Davis said. Seeing that Dr. Frank is making no attempt to let them go, Jessica said to him in a low tone, “If you don’t let us go now, I will scream.” “Very well then but if anyone should hear of this, I will make sure you two are expelled from the New University of China,” Dr. Frank said as he ran back to help Prof Liu.

Davis and Jessica quickly left the scene, leaving Dr. Frank and Prof Liu alone with their trouble; they headed straight to their respective hostels. Immediately Davis opened the door, John asked, “Where have you been mehn?” “Just hanging around,” Davis replied. “Cool! Hanging out with your Bebe,” John said as he smiled. “Come and sit,” John said as he taps on the bed. “Tell me everything,” John added.

Walking straight to his bed Davis said, “There is nothing to tell.” “Not even how you two shared your first kiss?” John asked. “Nothing to share dude,” Davis replied as he tried closing his eyes to sleep, John kept pestering him to tell him about Jessica and what happened. “It is late dude, get some rest,” Davis replied.

Early in the morning, when the students were heading to class, the police was seen around the staff quarters. John walking down with Davis asked, “What the hell happened over there?” “We should go check it out,” Davis replied as he immediately led the way.

Reaching the scene the police prevented them from crossing the police line, “This is a crime scene, no one is allowed to cross,” one of the detectives said to Davis and John. Not long enough Davis sighted Dr. Frank; he immediately approached him leaving John behind.

“What happened here?” Davis asked Dr. Frank as he poked him. “Hello boy!” Dr. Frank replied. “Good morning could have been a good way of imitating a conversation,” Dr. Frank added. “Good morning Doc,” Davis greeted. “Can you now tell me what happened here?” Davis added. “You know what happened here and no need to ask,” Dr. Frank replied. “Why are all these ambulances? How many deaths have been recorded?” Davis asked without relenting.

“Boy you asked too many questions,” Dr. Frank replied. “Which should I answer first?” Dr. Frank asked. As they were still talking, John who has been looking for Davis in the crowd saw him talking with Dr. Frank. “Davis! Davis! Davis!” John calls out as he struggles to make his way to him pressing through the crowds.

Dr. Frank seeing John calling Davis and heading towards them said to Davis, “No one should know about last night.” “Remind your girlfriend of that,” Dr. Frank added. “She is not my girlfriend,” Davis replied. “Then make her your girlfriend,” Dr. Frank said as he immediately walked out on Davis after he sighted John coming towards them.
