Chapter 3

1099 Words
Chapter 3 Greige was fuming mad. He is blaming himself and his fate. It’s all because he was poor and money was all other people care about. But he couldn’t do anything simply to change his life and the people’s view of him. He knows that even if he works overnight, it will take him years or even a decade before he can afford a hundred thousand dollars cell phone. Greige’s body shook from anger and despair. He swore to make them pay for everything they have done to him. That was on his mind as he stood up to fix his clothes and himself. Once again, he gritted his teeth to suppress his anger. People who do nothing but make fun of others are the real trash, his mind speaks. They have no feelings at all. Their behavior stink which makes their action results in a bad way of treating other people. Those who fool others make no difference from them. Greige’s heart is giving too many negative emotions like hatred and revenge. This might lead him to be like them if ever he ended up making every one of them pay for what they did to him every single day. But he is determined to encourage himself to work hard and make something extraordinary out of this to make them suffer someday. At this time, he received a phone call from his father. He draws out his phone and answered his father’s call. Although he doesn’t usually answer phone calls while he is on duty, he used it as an excuse to divert his attention from the anger he felt earlier. It’s almost his time to go home so it won’t hurt anyone if he talks with his beloved father. He heaved a sigh and calmed himself down before talking. “Yes, Dad?” Greige answered and greeted Mr. Fitzgerald on the other line. “Son, I have to tell you something…” his father thrilled. Greige was silent for a moment. His dad doesn’t usually use that tone not to mention make him feel thrilled. They are close but Greige is kind of secretive and his father don’t usually give hints. “Okay. Spill it.” He runs his fingers through his hair. He heard a deep sigh on the other line before his father talk again. “But don’t get surprised. I hid this fact from you because it was the right thing to do. But today is the right time to tell you the truth.” Greige scooped up his bag and waited for his father’s next words. He walked towards the door and went out so he can go home. The students who are still in school enjoy themselves didn’t surprise him. The usual meet and greet of each group didn’t pass his sight but he walked past them until he is outside the school’s gate. “Now that you have come of age, I should tell you everything. I promised to tell you the truth and nothing else so listen carefully. Greige, I know that this will shock you and that you might not believe me but you came from a very wealthy family,” said his father on the other line. His father sounds serious but Greige couldn’t find a reason to buy this joke for now. He expected him to tell him that they needed to pay their electric bill and other thing but this one doesn’t get to his sense, not at all. Also, Mr. Fitzgerald is not good at cracking jokes. Greige laughed without humor in it. He shook his head as if his father is in front of him. He continued walking as he tracks the route toward his home. “Dad, what kind of joke is this? Stop daydreaming, please. I am tired from work and you are giving me nonsense jokes to digest? Come on, be a little considerate. I am paying for our living expenses. If you are worried then just relax. I got you,” he snorted. “Do you think I am going nuts? I am very much healthy and clean, son. I also didn’t believe your grandfather when he told me about this. But I am not joking or making a*********s. You have been working your ass for the past years to support our living expenses but you can now relax.” Greige laughed hard because of it. He just thought of working hard to become a rich guy and make those people who bully him suffer and now his father called to tell him this. Is fate playing with him? Is fate testing his patience? People who are standing in the lane started to look at him. They think he is losing it but he just ignored them. “Don’t give me this s**t, Dad. You know that we are poor. There is no way I came from a wealthy family when the reality is already in front of me. If I am rich then why am I working in a school’s football team and letting those suckers get on my nerves?” he pointed out. “You say that because you haven’t seen the proof yet. I will transfer the 100 billion dollars to your bank account as your allowance and also as proof,” his father said then hangs up. When he heard the sound of a call ending, Greige laughed again and shook his head to forget that call. He thought that he must have received a phone call from a fraud. It doesn’t just make sense. Greige dropped by a convenience store to buy something to eat. But he ended up buying alcohol to forget what happened today. He got drunk until he fell asleep. The next day when he woke up from a hangover, he looked at his phone when it beeped. It’s a notification. He rolled down the notification bar to see if it is important. Greige’s eyes widened when he saw his bank account had 100 billion new income. He gets up from his bed and tried to read it again. A moment after, his phone rings and his father is calling. He immediately picked up the call. “Dad-“ “Do you believe me now?” his father cut his words. Greige’s mouth ran dry. He can’t contain the happiness and excitement he is feeling right now. “Yes, Dad. I believe you,” he replied as a grin slowly arose from his lips. He’s rich now! He never thought this could happen to him so suddenly! What a surprise!
