Chapter 9: Runaway Hostage

Nick’s POV Emma stood up and left the dining room quietly. She seemed pissed about the revelation Nina had just given. I didn’t blame her. I would be equally as concerned if I heard any of my siblings had kidnapped someone and brought them to my home, then allowed them to have dinner with us. I doubted if she would feel the same if I told her who Nina was. My siblings and I might not be similar but we had one thing in common; the hatred for Alpha Fenrir and our thirst for revenge for what he did to our father. My hatred towards him was stronger seeing him kill my father in front of me and spat on his dead body like he was nothing, but my siblings still had a lot of hatred for him. “You’re just going to let her walk away?” Nicolai raised a brow. I was still sitting on my chair as I thought about what I was going to tell her, then I realized it wasn’t going to be hard. Perhaps she was going to be happy that I was finally getting revenge for our father even though I hadn’t lured Alpha Fenrir yet into our pack but at least I am one step ahead in the plan Nicolai proposed to me. “No. I’m going to explain everything to her,” I stood up from my chair and turned towards the direction of the stairs that led to her room, but Nicolai’s voice stopped me. “Nick,” he called out. I turned around to face him, “Yes?” “I don’t think you should tell her. You don’t know her as I do, and I know how soft she can be. Maybe we should hold back that information until our plan is successful.” He explained. I shook my head in disapproval, “I don’t want to lie to her. We haven’t been this close in years, and I don’t want to start it off with a lie. What happens when she finds out?” Nicolai shrugged as he threw his hand up midair in surrender, “Do what suits you, Alpha Nick. I am just giving you some advice.” He said. I gave him a nod before I turned back and headed toward her room. After I reached the door, I knocked on it but didn’t get an answer. I knocked again and the response was still blank. I decided to just open up the door and get in. Luckily, the door was not unlocked. “May I come in?” I asked. Emma was sitting on her sofa with her leg crossed and her glasses perched on her nose as she read through a book. My chest tightened. She looked so much like our father. I didn’t realize how much the both of them looked similar until I saw her in this position, which he was always on while he was reading back when he was alive. She raised her head up and shook her head, “I don’t want to talk to you, Alpha Nick.” She murmured. “I can’t leave you to just assume and take me as a bad person, because I am not. I didn’t kidnap her for selfish reasons. I did it because of us. This family. Our family.” I told her as I stepped into her room. I sat down on the couch opposite her and let out a sigh. She shook her head, her lips holding a humorless smile. “And what is the reason why you kidnapped her which included the good of us, if I may ask?” She raised a brow in question. I cleared my throat, “This girl is no ordinary girl. I just picked her off the street because I liked her. In fact, I hate her. I don’t want anything to do with her because frankly, she is not my type and she came from a f*****g dirty source no one in this pack is allowed to marry from.” I seethed in anger as I expressed my severe hatred for her, and especially her father. “Woah, calm down. She seemed fine to me. An innocent, normal girl from the next door.” She chuckled, this time with a little bit of mirth in her tone and features. “She is far from normal. She is Alpha Fenrir’s daughter.” I dropped the bombshell. The look on her face made me regret spilling those words out of my mouth. I should have listened to Nicolai. The grief in her eyes made me feel bad for her. I should have kept the information, not for her feeling back for Nina but for not to bring sour memories back to her. She swallowed hard and looked away. She let out a sigh before she turned her gaze back to me, “Why did you bring her here then?” She questioned. “She owns half of her father’s soul. If I could get it, I would be able to destroy him however I like.” I explained. “And what does that have to do with making her fall in love with you because clearly, that is what is going on here.” I entwined both of my hands together and leaned forward, “I can not get his soul from her without marrying her, and she has to trust me. I have to make her love me before she can trust me.” She shook her head, “This is every shade of wrong Alpha. She doesn’t deserve to go through this because of what her father did six years ago. I mean, you told us that Alpha Fenrir didn’t want to involve you in the fight that was between you and father, so why are you trying to do so now?” “I am not him,” I said, my face hardening. “I can never be him and this is the only way to get revenge.” “No, it isn’t. There isn’t always one way. It might require some work, but you would definitely find another solution to it. I really don’t want her to get hurt.” She muttered at the end of the sentence in a sad tone. I couldn’t allow her to talk me out of this. I didn’t have any other way to go about this. Opportunity comes only once, and I would be damned to let her go because I knew I was going to regret the decision for the rest of my life. “I don’t have the patience to think of something, and this is a jackpot. I can’t just let it go. I need you to stay in character to help me go through this.” She shook her head immediately, “No way. I am not participating in whatever games Nicolai and you are playing with this girl. There is karma. It is going to come back and bite you both in the asses.” I almost rolled my eyes at her, but then I realized that was a very feminine thing to do as an Alpha, so I decided not to. Instead, I leaned back on the sofa and relaxed my aching back on its soft cushion. “You don’t understand, do you? This is the karma of what he did to us that we are doing to him. We have to take him down. No one is going away with killing our father Emma. No one.” She nodded but still looked unconvinced, “Okay. Whatever. But I am still not going to be part of this. The both of you get revenge for our father while I do whatever I have to do for my book club. Just be careful. Even our father couldn’t take down Alpha Fenrir, who was a much more powerful Alpha than you.” She said. This was the umpteenth time my siblings were telling me this, and I didn’t like hearing it. My father didn’t practice how to kill Alpha Fenrir for so long, and I did. I had thought of all of the risks and weak points he had and worked on them. I had sent several spies to his pack and they came back with a ton of information about him which I was positive was going to be useful. Now, here we are. “I am going to defeat him. He would have nothing on me once I get half of his soul.” I smirked, the thought of that alone making my mood lighten. “Well, if you say so. I will keep praying for your luck and safety Nick. Always. I love you.” She said in a loving motherly tone that melted my heart. Only my mother ever speaks to me this way. It was heartwarming to hear it from my sister also. I smiled at her and stood up from her sofa. “Thank you. I will be on my way.” “Bye,” she waved slightly. “We will see soon.” I gave her a light nod before I headed towards the door to leave, but someone at the door stopped me in my tracks as he burst into the room. It was Nicolai. He looked frantic. “What is wrong?” I quickly asked as I rushed towards him. “It’s Nina. She ran away,” he uttered in between breaths. My mouth slacked open in shock. This must be a joke. A frown took the place of the smile that was on my face some minutes ago as I rushed out of the room, determined to find Nina and bring her back to the palace before she made trouble for me.
