Chapter 8: A desicion

1567 Words
Nina’s POV I didn’t know to take my mind off Alpha Nick. It has been a day since our encounter, and all I could think about was his face, which was odd. I was supposed to be finding ways to escape but instead, all I could do was infatuate about this man that probably brought me here to kill me. Sighing, I got off the bed and headed towards the window which was my source of entertainment for the past few days I was here. I had about three windows because the room was quite spacious, but the one in front of my bed was my favorite. It was directly opposite the palace’s stables which were about two stories down. If I jumped off, I could lose a limb that I didn’t want. It was also surrounded by pack guards who fed and took care of the horses and unicorns. There were about three unicorns, which I badly wanted to ride but I knew I didn’t have a shot at that. I was probably going to die before I touched a horse or unicorn again. I started to think about my pack. I knew my mother was worried sick about me. But it would be harder on my father because I was closer to him, and I had half of my soul with me which could fall into wrong hands if I made the slightest mistake. All of the stress of looking for me might trigger his pain even more, and I would hate for that to happen. I felt tears in my eyes but quickly blinked them back. I wasn’t going to cry again because of this. All I had to do was remain positive even though I had no way out of this predicament. I turned back to exercising so I don’t get too stiff from staying indoors, but a knock on my door stopped me. I frowned as I darted my gaze toward the door. Did they normally treat hostages with this ridiculous amount of respect? Even at home, my mother barely knocked on my door when she was about to enter my room but here, I was treated like royalty. I liked that I was treated that way, but I just hoped it wasn’t the last act of chivalry before they killed me and fed my body to dogs or something. “Come in,” I said faintly, and the door quickly flung open. One of my kidnappers came in, the other brother. I quickly recognized him even though the both of them were nearly identical. Their choice of clothing is not the same, and the Alpha was definitely more good-looking than his twin. “Good day,” I greeted him while I cast my head low. “Good day. How are you doing?” He asked. I bit my lip, suddenly feeling a surge of anger in me. Why would he ask me that sort of question when they are locking me away in a room away from my pack and family? I was obviously not fine. He didn’t need to ask, but I decided to reply to him anyway. “I am surviving,” I breathed out. “Oh, I see. Do you want to join us for dinner?” He raised a brow up. I opened my mouth to speak, but couldn’t produce even a sound. They were now inviting me to their dinners. Was I not supposed to be locked away? These people obviously didn’t want me for ransom because they looked equally as rich as my father. They wanted something so much more because it looked like they had it all. Did they want to take me away from my family just because they wanted to? I had so many questions going about in my head, but not even a single answer in sight. “S… sure.” I stammered after a while. He nodded before he whirled his heels and left. I scurried behind him to catch up with his pace. We went down stairs and I tried to catch up with his long strides before we reached the enormous dining room. I gaped as I looked around the room. From the endless plates and cutlery to the gold-themed walls and the gigantic chandelier that was hung on the ceiling which sourced the majority of the light in the dining room. I had never been to a more posh dining room than this, even with the endless travel with my father back when he was healthy. This was a discovery. I looked around at the people seated at the table, which made my heart pace with nervousness. It was Alpha Nick and a lady who looked like both of them. She looked like she was about my age, but was prettier and more sophisticated than me. I quickly recognized her as the lady I saw when I was coming out of Alpha Nick’s room. As they sensed my presence, they both yawed their gazes at me which made my heart pace quicken even more. I looked away nervously before I sat down on a chair after Alpha Nick’s twin brother had done so. I didn’t understand why they invited me to their family dinner. I didn’t want to be here. It felt weird being amongst the people that had kidnapped me. “Hi Nina, how are you?” The lady asked, taking me by surprise. “I’m good. How are you?” I replied almost immediately. I hoped they didn’t invite me to be part of their family because I was not interested. If not, why would they treat me like one of them and even invite me over to eat? They were all so awkward. “I am fine,” she nodded with a smile before she yawed her gaze towards Alpha Nick. “I see what the hype is all about bro.” She wiggled her brows. I was confused about what she meant. What hype was she talking about, and what did she even know about me? She hasn’t even seen me before. “What are you talking about?” I questioned her. She had opened her mouth to speak when the waitress wheeled in the meal. She started to serve everyone appropriate portions, and I felt a little bit shy to eat in front of them so I requested a much smaller portion so I can finish fast and leave this awkward situation. After the waiter left, she turned her gaze back to me and spoke. “My brother likes you. I mean, he obviously does. Don’t you Nick?” She asked. My whole body stilled at her statement. I raised my head to look at Nick, and his face looked as hard as a rock as he stared down at his food. Did he really like me? I chewed on my inner cheek nervously as I awaited his response, but he didn’t say anything. The silence was starting to get too awkward. “Yes, he does,” Nicolai agreed with her, turning to glance at my reaction for a moment. I let out an inaudible sigh as I started to play with my fork because I had completely lost my appetite for the food sitting in front of me. Did Alpha Nick kidnap me because he loved me? I swallowed hard. Was this one of my favorite books recreated? Perhaps we were mated and he took me here so we could be together. My lip tugged into a smile at the thought of that. I looked up to glance at him, but the look he passed me quickly spoiled my five seconds of euphoria. There wasn’t a look of love on his face, contrary to what his siblings had just testified. He didn’t even look like he liked me staying here at the dining table and eating with them. “So Nina, my brother wanted to ask you for something. He is going away on a trip, so maybe you might go with him so the both of you could get closer.” Nicolai said. I shook my head immediately. He must be delusional asking his brother to ask me out on a date or whatever this was after he had just kidnapped me. He was too full of himself. “No. I am not going with you,” I declined. “You cannot just kidnap me without any reasonable explanation and have your siblings express whatever feelings you have for me.” I stood up from the table. “Kidnap?” Nina frowned as she turned to her brother with a questioning look on his face. That made me calm down a little. From the look on his face, he hadn’t told his sister that he had kidnapped me. I had a gut feeling that he was in so much trouble, so I whirled my heels and went back upstairs to my room as I started to rethink what was happening to me all over again. I didn’t like how this felt. It was all too rushed. Alpha Nick seemed like a case. Someone I would run away from as far as possible if I still loved myself and wanted to keep my heart in one piece. I made a decision for myself right there, because I could not afford to get even more hurt than I was because of men.
