Nick’s POV
I dreaded waking up the next day. I watched as the sun rose from the cracks in my window. I have never felt this way. I was good in everything I did, and this was the first time I was attempting something I wasn’t experienced at.
I stood up to my feet and stretched. Emma, my little sister, was going to her usual morning club around this time. It would be the perfect hour to sneak into her room and get whatever I need without getting caught.
Stripping off my sleeping wear, I headed to my bathroom and had a short and warm bath before I dressed up for the day. I barely had time to waste. After I was done, I headed out of the room to Emma’s room which was in an entirely separate wing, where the rest of my family stayed.
I walked past the guards who bowed before I walked past them until I got to her room which was closed.
“Is she around?” I asked her personal guard who was standing erect in front of her room.
“Yes, milord.” He bowed down a little.
I sighed dejectedly before I turned to leave, but the door clicking open stopped me.
“Nick,” she called out. I turned back to face the door and found her already dressed and ready to leave.
I wished I came even a minute later because I didn’t know the answer to give her.
“Yes. Good morning, Emma.” I greeted with a little faux smile on my face.
“Good morning Alpha. What are you here to do?” She questioned with a raised brow.
My head was blank. Emma and I were close before our father’s death but after the incident, I withdrew away from everyone. She was one of the only people I still had a soft spot for but even though we still weren’t close.
She raised her brow even further as she awaited a response but I still couldn’t think of what to tell her.
“Come in,” she said before she took a step back, making way for me to enter her room.
I hesitated for a bit before I entered.
“Look, I was just here to-”
“Is it about that girl?” She questioned, a smirk painted on her lips that were very similar to mine.
“What?”
“The girl Nicolai and you brought, does it ring a bell?“ She folded her arms.
“Oh right, that girl. She is nobody Emma. I just came here to call you for breakfast.” I lied.
“You have not spoken to me unless necessary for the past six years Nick. I don’t believe you.” She shrugged, as a matter of factly.
“Fine,” I gave up. “It is because of her. I really need your help.”
This was the first time I have asked anyone for help for as long as I could remember, not that I ever needed help. I always got everything I wanted as the Alpha of the pack so asking for help wasn’t something I needed to do at all.
“What do you want? Where did you get her from because she is obviously a rogue. I mean look at her, she is literally every shade of gorgeous.” She sighed dreamily.
I was about to tell her that I didn’t see it, but then I kept quiet. I was supposed to convince Emma to get me a way to make her like me, so saying she is not attractive was not going to convince her so.
“She is from a nearby pack,” I cleared my throat.
“And?” She raised a brow.
“I brought her here because I liked her.”
I knew the truth was eventually going to catch up with me, and it was killing me. I didn’t want my little sister to take me as a liar. I couldn’t afford to lose her, but all that would happen if she finds out, and I wasn’t going to let it happen.
“Nick!” She exclaimed, her brows shooting upwards. “Who are you and what did you do to my brother? Look at you catching feelings like a normal werewolf for once.” She wiggled her brows.
I gave her a little smile, but her words stung me a little. Maybe I didn’t behave like a normal person because I was too damaged and consumed by hatred to be one. But no matter who I was, I liked being that. The last thing I wanted was to be in love that will result in me being hurt again.
“You don’t need to rub it in my face,” I muttered under my breath.
“So what do you want now? Lesson 001 on how to woo a girl?” She stumbled into her room and headed towards her giant bookshelves.
All she read about was love. I didn’t like how she set unattainable expectations for herself, but I couldn’t stop her from reading. She had her own life, and I wasn’t about to dictate to her how to live it.
“I just came to tell you about it.” I shrugged.
She turned her head to face me as though she didn’t believe what I said, but shrugged and turned her figure back to me.
“Okay then. I should be on my way already, I would hate to waste any more time.” She said as she headed back towards the door.
She still had her key in her hand which meant that she was going to close it. I couldn’t think of a plan fast enough, so I decided to just drop my ego and get a book from her shelf.
She was my little sister. It wasn’t like she was going to judge me or snitch on me for reading a romance book.
“On second thoughts,” I said before she got to the door. “I am going to pick a book and read on how to woo a girl.” I breathed out.
Her mouth lifted into a toothy grin, then a feminine chuckle.
“I knew that was what you wanted, Nick. We might not be close but I know you very well.” She laughed.
It made me feel a little bit bad, but this wasn’t the time to be distracted. I wanted to change how my sister and I were towards each other, but revenge was at the top of my list now. I had to get Alpha Fenrir’s daughter’s attention before I thought of rekindling the poor relationship I had with my family.
“Go get it,” I instructed.
She happily bounced to her bookshelf and traced her fingers on her book while she searched for the appropriate one to give me and when she found it, she pulled it out of the stack and headed towards me.
Once she was close enough, she thrust the book into my hands. I didn’t like the cover, and neither did I like the girlish font on the cover but nevertheless, I collected it. I looked down at the name and cringed.
“What is this?” I raised a brow, shoving the book in the air.
She folded her arms, “A book. You need this if you want a shot at a woman that looks like her. I mean she must have men throwing themselves on her, so you can’t afford to be mixed with the crowd. You have to stand out.” She explained.
She had a point, but if only she knew how much I disliked her. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to pull this off. This whole thing is stupid, but that was what it would take to get revenge for my father’s death so I would do it.
“Fine,” I nodded. “I would try to read it, but I would be thankful if you get me an abridged version of it.” I requested.
“No,” she shook her head immediately. “It is not about the content, it’s about the emotions in the book. You aren’t reading it to know what would happen in the novel. I gave you to read that so that you would adapt to the feelings and the ideology of how the perfect boyfriend would be.”
“I can’t be perfect. Nothing is perfect.” I chirped.
“But you can try to be, for her.”
I sighed as I placed the book in my cloak.
“I will try to, for her,” I assured her.
Emma jumped a little and giggled like a little child. I really loved my little sister. I don’t know how much I was missing out on the fun of being in her life until this moment. I was glad I spent some time with her.
“Fine. If you may excuse me.” She bowed, her excitement still not dying down.
“Of course. You should leave.” I opened the door and left her room.
She locked it with her keys and dropped the keys in her bag before she turned to face me.
“I will be awaiting results.” She winked before she left with her bodyguard.
I let out an annoyed groan. I didn’t like all of this, but it wasn’t like I had a choice. I headed towards my room and I brought out the book to read. ‘Love Behind Closed Doors.’, it read. I opened the door to my room, and nothing prepared me for who I was met sitting cross-legged on my bed.
