Chapter 4: Sappy Romance

1100 Words
Nick’s POV The horse galloped towards the border of our pack that was now cleared, thanks to the guards we murdered just a few hours ago. Their bodies were still as fresh as they were yesterday when we sped past them. The sun had started to rise as we got into my pack. Alpha Fenrir’s daughter had given up and fallen asleep on my chest. That made me very angry. How could she sleep on a horse when a hand was the only thing stopping her from falling to her death? I had contemplated letting her go multiple times but something kept holding me back. After we got to the palace, we both slowed down our horses as we headed toward the stables to keep them. “When are we going to kill her?” I turned my head to ask my twin brother, Beta Nicolai. “No,” he answered immediately. “We are not killing her, I told you that. We are just using her to lure him in.” He whispered the last part. “Lure who in?” The girl answered, which startled both of us. Nicolai and I stared at each other as we exchanged silent signals, in which he requested me to not tell her anything. I nodded as we got to the stables. I came down my horse, and held a hand for her to come down too. “I thought you were sleeping.” I diverted to dodge the question. She opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn’t. I could see the utter fascination in her eyes for me. I knew I was good-looking, but no one ever dared to look at me that way because they knew how dangerous I was. “I… I was not.” She blushed, looking away. I already disliked her. She was no different from the rest of the girls I have come across who get lovesick from the slightest chivalrous gesture from me. I shook my head before I looked away. “Is there something you need to tell me, Nicolai?” I asked him. He shook his head, “Yes, Alpha.” “Alpha?” She gasped and for some reason, it irritated me even more. I needed someone to take her away from me before I got even more irritated. “Guards,” I called out and within seconds, someone already came around. “Take her away to a room in the palace. Also, give her extra security and whatever the hell she needs to stop being so goddamn irritating.” I instructed. “I literally didn’t do anything.” She chirped but before she could add another word, the guard yanked her away and took her towards the palace. “She is going to be a real piece of work.” Nicolai chuckled as he stared at their retreating back. “We should just kill her and get it over with. There is nothing to lose.” I shrugged. “We need to be smart about this. You said you didn’t want to drag her into your fight with her father, so why do it now? It won’t take long before Alpha Fenrir comes crawling into this pack for his daughter.” Nicolai explained. I shook my head. I liked how he was insightful and smart. He was the perfect Beta, and I was glad that I had him. After all of this is over, I was going to thank him properly for being a good Beta to me. I might not like him that much for being a coward sometimes, but he was my twin brother. We only had each other, then our little sister and mother who was very sick and just wanted both of her sons to get along. “That is fine.” I shook my head. “Also, I heard some news in the pack but I’m not sure of the authenticity.” He whispered. “What is it?” I raised a brow. “I heard that Alpha Fenrir is dying. He needs the rest of his soul, which he linked with his daughter.” He smirked. “And what does that mean?” I asked, still genuinely confused. We both turned as we started to walk back to the palace. “The man that she was going to marry, she didn’t love him. I am guessing that he was going to marry her to get the rest of Alpha Fenrir’s soul from her.” He said, sounding unsure of his words. I got rooted at the spot as I turned to face him. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. If this was true, then I had hit a jackpot. “Are you sure of that news?” I questioned. “I am not sure, but there is a way to find out. You see how that girl looks at you, Nick?” I shook my head. There was no way I was going to do that. I didn’t even like the mere sight of her. “Please, Nick. You need to do this for us to get revenge on our father. Just make her trust and fall in love with you. It shouldn’t be that hard.” Nicolai shrugged as though what he was asking was nothing. I didn’t want to break her heart but once I heard the word revenge, I felt my blood start to boil. I was willing to kill her a minute ago, so gaining her trust and breaking it shouldn’t be that hard. “Fine,” I nodded. “I am going to do it.” “That’s the spirit.” He shook my hand, a devilish smile painted on his lips. I liked this side of my brother. The ugly and evil side of him. Being nice only makes people weak. I hated weakness. I couldn’t wait to get ahold of Alpha Fenrir’s soul. It was going to be a stressful ride, but I was more than willing to go through it for the results. Love is something I have never attempted to do. If I was going to do this, then I wanted to do it well. I had to learn. I knew my little sister kept books about romance, and it would be easy to sneak into her room and get it. I cringed at the thought of that. I hated romance. I hated anything that had to do with it but for my father, I would do anything, including reading sappy romance books to convince my enemy’s daughter to share her soul with me.
