Chapter 18 A New Member

Following Zhang Han, they arrived at the team headquarters. Li Kong looked at the building with shock and awe.

"Everyone, come over here. Let me introduce you to our new team member." Zhang Han clapped his hands and said.

Three people walked over and curiously studied Li Kong and his attire.

"This is Wei, an Second Grade Senior-level mage of fire and earth Elements. I just hired him today. He will be the fifth member of this squad." Zhang Han introduced with a smile.

"Hi, my name is Xu Qing. Welcome to the Fire Wolf Team." A sweet-looking girl smiled and introduced herself.

"Ma Yulin." The thin man in the middle pushed up his glasses and said.

"My name is Tieqiang, you can just call me Qiangzi. I am a Third Grade Junior-level fire element mage." The last person welcomed him with a friendly face.

"Qiangzi, you already know. Ma Yulin is a Third Grade Junior-level wind element mage. Sun Qing is a beginner Third Grade Junior-level wood element mage." Zhang Han scratched his bald head and explained. "You guys familiarize yourselves with each other first. I'll go help Wei apply for his documents." He then quickly left.

"Look, old Ma, the vice-captain finally smiled." Tieqiang leaned against the wall and said to Ma Yulin.

"Isn't that right? Ever since that incident, has the vice-captain ever smiled again?" Ma Yulin and Tieqiang chatted idly.

Xu Qing propped up her chin and stared curiously at Li Kong with her large brighteyes. After a while, she asked, "Why are you wearing a mask?"

Hearing Xu Qing's question, Tieqiang and Ma Yulin stopped talking and stretched out their ears to listen. They were also curious about what this guy called Wei looked like.

"How should I put it? I'm wearing a mask because I don't want you to know what I look like." Li Kong made a cold joke.

The room fell silent.

Seeing Xu Qing's agitated gaze, Li Kong laughed awkwardly.

"It's not convenient to expose my identity." Zhang Xuan explained.

"That's understandable, but can you at least show us what you look like?" Ma Yulin suddenly appeared behind Li Kong and asked.

"Brother Ma, forget it. I look scary." Li Kong took two steps away and shook his head.

"Don't say that. The more you deny us, the more curious I get." Ma Yulin quickly moved and reached for Li Kong's mask.

He turned his body slightly to avoid Ma Yulin's probing.

"Your reaction time is not bad." Ma Yulin exclaimed in admiration, then quickly moved his legs and reached again, a faint wind surrounding his hands.

Li Kong suddenly slid back dozens of steps and stretched out his arms to block the incoming hands.

Feeling the force with his hand, Ma Yulin did not show any expression. He kicked with both legs and shortened the distance between him and Li Kong. He bent down and kicked out.

Li Kong leaned back and caught the kicking legs with his arms. He gathered his strength and threw the person out.

With a flip of his body, Ma Yulin landed. He patted the dust off his body and revealed a look of surprise. If not for the backup plan he had, that swing from Wei could've made him look like a fool

"Alright, that's enough. Wei's strength is worthy of us accepting him." Tieqiang clapped his hands to signal for Ma Yulin to stop. "Wei, don't blame us. This job is dangerous, so we need to test your strength and combat experience. Or else we can't leave our backs to you. No one wants to die and no one wants potential risks around them." He put his arm around Li Kong's shoulder, his face full of friendliness.

Suddenly, Li Kong's heart tightened and squatted down.

Tieqiang, who had failed in his surprise attack, slowly put his hand back into his pocket. "You sure are fast. Now, I'm more curious about what kind of face you have under that mask." Tieqiang rubbed his chin and asked, "Why don't you just show us?"

Li Kong's mouth twitched under the cover of the mask. He silently moved back to keep his distance from Tieqiang.

"Don't be afraid, I won't do anything to you." He rubbed his hands together and slowly walked toward Li Kong, closing their distance. Tieqiang was like a big bad wolf that closing in on a little lamb.

Li Kong realized that something was wrong and quickly rushed to the door of the room. Ma Yulin quickly moved sideways and blocked the exit.

"Do you guys have to do this? Please don't bully newcomers like this." Li Kong shouted sullenly and he tried to avoid the attacks coming from the two. Fortunately, the office room was spacious enough for him to move around and dodge.

Suddenly, a black wine caught Li Kong's body and dragged him to the ground. Xu Qing on the side raised her fists in the air and smiled, showing her cute canine teeth.

Li Kong, on the floor, suddently felt that cute smile was like one from a devil and a shiver ran down his spine. No matter how much Li Kong struggled, the black vines ruthlessly wrapped around his legs.

Li Kong eventually gave up. He lay on the ground sadly, like a fish on a chopping board, weak, helpless, and pitiful.

When Li Kong opened his eyes and the three smiling faces covered his field of vision.

"Now there's no way for you to escape."

"Take this mask off and show us your face."

Then, three pairs of hands slowly reached towards Li Kong's mask.

Creak. The door opened. "Alright, stop messing around. If Wei doesn't want to reveal himself, then he obviously has a reason. Don't make things difficult for him." Zhang Han's loud voice immediately reached Li Kong's ears.

This voice was like the sound of an angle to Li Kong.

Zhang Han helped Li Kong up and patted off the dust on him, then he explained with a smile, "They are not bad people. They are just curious about you."

Then, he looked at the three people who had retreated to the side.

"I was just curious." Xu Qing lowered her head and bit her lips.

"Ok fine, but don't threaten me like this." He walked over and patted Xu Qing's head, like an older brother doting on his little sister.

Li Kong also realized that Zhang Han, Tieqiang, and Ma Yulin all loved Xu Qing very much. He was a little puzzled, but he did not ask.

"This is your ID card and our contact information, be sure contact us when you need to."

Li Kong took over the documents and opened it.

Name: Li Kong

Organization: Fire Wolf Squad...

"Oh, and this is your card. Your monthly salary will be transferred to this card directly." He took out a purple card from his pocket and handed it to Li Kong.

The card could be used for credit payments, transfers, deposits, and other functions such as credit-scoring based transactions.

"Our organization is very free. As long as you are here for the missions, you are free to do whatever on your free time." Zhang Han said solemnly.

"Alright, we can disband now." He glanced at Li Kong and left.

"Haha, Brother Wei, we're leaving now. Please forget what happened just now." Tieqiang cupped his fists towards Li Kong and smiled.

Ma Yulin also apologized to Li Kong, then chased after Tieqiang and left with a smile.

Only Li Kong and Xu Qing were left in the huge office.

"Why did you join the guards?" Xu Qing walked to Li Kong's side and tried to take off Li Kong's mask. She still had not given up.

Li Kong moved his head and dodged again.

"One, a high salary."

"Two, combat experience." Li Kong answered without hesitation.

"I can understand the first one, but why the second?"

"I have more attributes than ordinary people, so I have to work harder than others. Engaging in real combat is a good way to train."

Li Kong's words made Xu Qing even more confused. She questioned, "You know, this job is very dangerous. If you are not careful, you will lose your life. Why don't you change to a safer job?" The response made her eyes red.
