Memories Unlocked

I have no idea what is going on or why this feels so real. I flop down on my childhood bed and reach for the diary tucked under my pillow. "You really should have thought of a better hiding spot than that." Letting out a little shriek, I quickly shove the diary back and stare at the man I miss more than words can explain. Jumping to my feet, I rush to the door and hug him. "DAD!" Tears escape my eyes as we embrace each other tightly. "Kylie, sweetheart, what are you doing here?" "Where am I exactly?" I ask as we finally pull apart. "I mean, I know it's my room, but...oh my god. Am I dead?" My dad lets out a humorless laugh. "No, you are very much alive. I can still hear your heartbeat. You must be unconscious. What's the last thing you remember?" We both take a seat on my bed as I think of what last occurred before waking up here. After a silent moment, my memory comes flooding back. I feel my face turn red in embarrassment. "Cameron accidentally shoved me into the pool." Instinctively, I put my hand on the back of my head where I last felt the hard pool floor. I expected my dad to laugh, but his facial expression shows nothing but pain. "Dad?" "I failed you, and I will forever be sorry. Instead of teaching you how to swim or ride a bike, I... I was busy trying to keep you from learning your truth." "What? The truth about me being a werewolf?" His eyes widen with shock and concern. "H-how do you know about that? You're not eighteen yet." "Dad, I'm a little hurt that you thought you had to keep this from me, but I'm not mad. My two best friends are wolves and I met my mate, Liam." Rubbing his temple, he looks at me confused. "How do you know he's your mate? You won't know for sure until you're eighteen and your wolf acknowledges him." "You mentioned a boy named Cameron. Does he have a brother?" Nodding my head, "Yes. He has an older brother named Brandon. Why?" "f**k!" He shouts as he punches the bedroom door. I don't understand why he is getting mad about me being friends with Cameron and Brandon. They have been nothing but kind to me since we met. "I don't have much time to explain before you wake up, but I need to show you something." Sticking his hand out to me, I take hold of it, and a flash of light teleports us to... Vander's bakery? What are we doing here? "Dad, I don't understa... He places a finger to his lips in a hush motion. I take a seat with him at one of the tables and wait to see what it is that we are here for. After a minute or two, in walks my dad. Lucy greets him with a flirty smile, making me feel very uncomfortable all of a sudden. I glance over at my dad at the table with me and give him a hard stare in disapproval. "Just...watch. Okay? Judge me later." He whispers, although nobody here can see or hear us it seems. It's weird having someone next to me who can't see or feel my presence. "Dad, what is going on?" I ask him as memory dad takes a seat next to me. "Just listen, okay?" He sternly replies. Lucy proceeds to walk over and places a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin on the table. I expected her to walk back to the counter, but she takes a seat across from him. "Thank you, Lucy." Leaning forward, she quietly says to my father, "I can offer a lot more than just my baked goods for you." She winks at him and I feel my blood boil. How dare she flirt with a married man! Sighing, my dad rubs his temple. "For the last time, I am not leaving my Fiona. She is the mother of my child and she deserves a loyal husband." "Who cares? I have children as well, but I'm not with their father. And you know why? Because nobody compares to MY mate." She hisses in anger. Luckily there's only one other customer here this early. My neck snaps so quickly toward my dad, I’m surprised it didn't fall off. "LUCY IS YOUR MATE!?" He looks down and nods his head.
