Memories Continued

I may be new to this whole werewolf world, but I have learned very quickly how important a mate is. I go to open my mouth, but my dad places a finger to his lips indicating me to be quiet and listen to what happens next. "I think I'll take my order to go." Lucy huffs at memory dad and shouts at Brandon to bring my dad a bag and a to-go cup as she goes back into the kitchen. "Kylie, take my hand." I stand up from the chair and do as my dad says. In a flash, we are teleported to another memory. We are now standing outside of the local park. "Dad, why are we here?" He looks at me with tears in his eyes. "To show you the truth about my death." My heart starts racing as I think back to this day. I remember Mom telling me that Dad went for his usual run at the park and had a heart attack. Now I'm about to witness my dad die right in front of my own eyes. I don't know if I can handle this. I feel Dad squeeze my hand and I finally look at him. "I'm already dead, Kylie. This will be hard, but I need you to know what really happened." I slightly nod my head, understanding that he's right. A moment later, I see memory Dad approaching the running trail. Placing his headphones in to listen to music, he begins with a slow jog before full-on running. I'm out of breath trying to keep up with him and Dad. Nothing seems out of the ordinary to me, but I know something bad is about to occur. Dad notices I'm having a difficult time keeping up with him and memory Dad, so he stops and heads back toward me. "Sorry, kid. I'll carry you." I let out a yelp as he lifts me up and carries me on his back. I feel like a little child again and tears come to my eyes. I miss this man so damn much. "This is a lesson for you, Kylie. Always be aware of your surroundings. I should never have blocked out my hearing just because of music. I had fallen into a routine, and routines will kill you." He points to a tree up ahead and I let out an ear-piercing scream to memory dad. "DAD, WATCH OUT!!!" I know he can't hear me, but I couldn't help it. Lucy had been waiting on a tree branch high up in a tree that she knew dad would run past. I watch in horror as she jumps down and lands on him perfectly, injecting a needle into his neck. I watch as his body falls to the ground and he gasps for air. "Lu-Lucy. Please. H-help. I-I'm sor-" "Oh, shut up. You're not sorry. I hope you rot in hell." Kneeling on the ground beside him, she grabs his face and kisses his lips. I hop off my Dad's back and run as fast as I can at the memory Lucy. I try punching her and hitting her, but to no avail. It's like fighting a ghost. My hands just goes right through her. I watch with anger as she calmly walks away and back out to the park. "Dad." I begin to cry. "Sorry, Kylie. There's one more thing for you to see." I stare at my father with disbelief. How much more does he think I can handle? "I just want you to see how she managed to cover the truth of my death. Come, we probably don't have much more time before you wake up." Grabbing my hand, we are now standing in the hospital. My dad's body is on the hospital bed and Lucy is talking with the doctor. I listen carefully to their conversation. "Good for you, Lucy. That bastard deserved this for rejecting you." "Thanks, Lisa. So, I think it's safe to say he had a heart attack while running. Right?" Lucy softly laughs. "That's what it says in his chart and cause of death, my best friend." "And if anyone questions that?" Lucy glares at her friend. "Then I will compel them that the heart attack is the truth. Benefits of being a vampire, you know." She smiles back. "Are you f*****g kidd- "KYLIE!! Thank the moon goddess! You had me scared to death!!!" I cough out water and stare into the eyes of Liam. I sit up in his arms and hug him tightly as tears flow uncontrollably.
