Somewhere In Wellington
?
"You're late!" Says Anna as her teaching gets disrupted by Karen, she's a 25-year-old kindergarten teacher who's also the only friend Karen has made ever since she moved to Wellington.
"I'm sorry, you know we just moved into our new apartment and I'll also be getting Kendall registered into college today, it's just too much" Karen muttered.
"Quan?, Come here" Anna says as she grabs the boys hand.
Quan is Karen's baby, he's 3 years and some months old and he stays at the kindergarten till 5:pm in the evening.
"Baby, I'll have to be on my way now" she crouched to his level and she wasn't even expecting him to say something, instead the young boy kissed her on her forehead.
"Good boy" she giggled and shook her head at her friend before walking out.
Many would believed there should've been a little changes in Karen's features or at least her behavior but she's actually still maintaining the same beauty of four years ago, except that she's learning to be a better mom to her 18 year old daughter who just got into college and her baby boy.
She has never seen or bumped into Jake or Kylie up until this minute but she knew he was doing really well and it was as if she never even existed in his life, the last thing she heard about him was when the media outlets wouldn't stop talking about his new branch.
Karen didn't want to dwell in the past and went to the bus station to meet her daughter, they headed for the Victoria University of Wellington where Kendall will be majoring in Mass communication.
?
"It's a pleasure to have you and your brilliant daughter here, as you already know that the school is offering her a scholarship throughout her years of study here" Karen's eyebrows twitched, it's like she was hearing something different.
"Scholarship?"
"Yes, we informed earlier on the email dropped when she applied" she nodded her head, it was all clear.
Truthfully, she knew her daughter did well amongst all the students that sat for the college entrance exam but she wasn't expecting them to lift a burden off her shoulder.
",This is very great, I... I'm so happy"
"You raised your daughter well, the registration procedure will be concluded in her class, you didn't have to come with her" she forced a smile and hugged Kendall on their way out.
Anyone would think they were siblings, the mother and daughter were just 14 years apart, Karen is 32 and her daughter is 18.
"Mine" she patted her hair.
"Mom, I'm not a baby, don't let them tag me as one" she scowled, Karen let go and bid her goodbye before going back to her store.
That's just her normal daily life which revolved around her children and her work.
Nothing like love, although she has a man whom she's starting to see in a different way than the first time they met.
?
"1,2, 1,2!" The coach instructed, Kylie was in the boxing ring and was doing her normal practice.
"1, 2, 1...."
"Let's stop, uhhhh, I'm tired" she snorted, breathing heavily as she falls on her back.
"Why did you stop?" Jake's walks in, he was wearing a well tailored suit and looks as if he was heading out to an official business.
"I'm tired dad, I thought we're moving today?" She asked, rolling towards his side.
"And did I say otherwise?"
"No, you're dressed in suit instead of wearing something casual, I have to ask"
Kylie climbed down from the boxing ring and gulped down the water in her mug, she was wearing a crop top that barely covered her boobs and a short.
"The first thing I'm doing there is tending to my new company, if you're done with your training, go get cleaned up, we'll be leaving in 30 minutes"
"So fast, I haven't told my boyfri..."
"Girl, I'm not playing with you, I'll kill that boy if you ever mention him again" he threatened playfully because there's actually not a boy or even a boyfriend.
Her life has been very private ever since she was left alone, she also just got into college but she resorted to a virtual class.
Moments later, both daughter and father were headed to the airport.
A new branch, actually the biggest branch of his company is now located in Wellington and he prefers working there than staying here.
*****
"As expected!" Kylie giggled as she toured around the house, it was way too big for the two of them to stay in but she knew how this works.
Her father's meeting takes place in here and they get way too many visitors than that of a president.
"You can prepare dinner right, cos I'm actually very hungry but I have to go out first" Jake says, she growl at him.
Like, what does he thinks of an 18 year old, of course she can.
"Bye, have fun"
"Have fun, Kylie? Are you kidding me right now" he glared.
"Just leave already, I want to explore this house without you in there"
So, he has left to do some background checking on the new company, his office and every other thing that needed to be checked.
His long time friend happens to be around here this time and has called to make appointment with him.
"I'll drive, you can go stay with Kylie" he says to Randy who was still as loyal and ever and drove off to the restaurant he was supposed to meet Martin, his friend.
?
"You're Mr..."
"Jake, just Jake" he replied with a smile as a waitress led him to meet Martin.
"Oh my God, I can't believe we're finally meeting" He muttered with a big brilliant smile all over his face as they hugged for a moment.
Their conversation clicked off really good even though this is their very first meeting in 10 years, they were served with drinks and were starting to dive into their personal life's.
Even though this topic is a chapter Jake wouldn't want to open, he just had to tell his friend.
"I'm a lawyer but I really can't judge here, you were at fault and she didn't need to leave, oh that's f****d up"
"I know right, forget about it, I've moved on"
"I know, you're definitely not the type a woman would hold back" he winks to affirm that.
"So, are you still seeing anyone, it's not possible that you haven't smashed anyone after all those years."
"Well, I'm seeing someone..." He paused.
"My daughter" they both bursted into laughter.
"You might not believe but the s*x I had last was with that lady she caught me with, I'm still trying to figure out I survived four years without doing it" he smiles and took a sip again.
"What about you?"
"Well, I'm in the middle of getting my own woman" he explains.
"Middle, care to elaborate?" He requested.
"I'm still courting her, she's very sweet but also the most strong headed person I've ever met"
"Sounds like you'll have a hard time before you can get her"
"It seems so but not anymore, she's meeting up with me here to give me her answer and I'm sure it's positive"
"Then, congratulations" they were in the middle of this conversation when Martin looked up after hearing his name.
"Martin" he saw her and waved, beckoning to her to come over.
"She's here" Martin whispered to Jake who was actually interested in the lady that got his friend talking this much.
"I didn't know you were bringing some..." Jake knew that voice, the lady also recognizes this manly figure without looking at him just yet.
They say, all that's meant to happen to you will surely happen without passing you by.
No matter how much you avoid it.
