CHAPTER 12:A SECRET

COUNCIL MEMBER PERRY Luna Simmons's wolf was a timid-looking, pale blonde wolf, with a dark patch that ran from her neck down her stomach. She had warm, brown eyes, like pools of deep, rich chocolate. I asked her name, and she replied in a quiet, sweet voice. "I am Aria, how can I help you?" she asked. I was a little taken aback by her demeanor. Yes, Chloe was a little bit shy and reserved, but I had attributed that to the way that Alha Simmons treated her. However, no matter the circumstances of their human I had never met a Luna wolf like this before. Especially one who was Alpha-blooded. She was the daughter of a formidable Alpha, yet her wolf was acting like an omega. In fact, she seemed less than an omega. She seemed to have no fight in her. I asked her to tell me what she knew. I listened as she spoke, but she didn't really have anything new to tell me. She knew nothing about the note or where it had come from. She hadn't told anyone about her and Alpha Baxter being mates, and had no idea how someone could have found out. It felt like we were going around in circles and getting nowhere. Clearly, someone else knew somehow and was trying to cause problems. I figured while I was talking to Aria I should probably get to the bottom of another issue. "Could you please tell me a little bit about your life in the Winter Falls pack?" I asked. She shifted nervously, but replied. She told me that her life there was miserable. Alpha Simmons barely ever allowed Chloe to shift. They were just there for him to use. She wasn't treated as their Luna." She seemed upset. It was never me or Chloe that Alpha Simmons wanted," she said. Once the words came out she stiffened, as if she had said something that she hadn't meant to. I thanked her and ended things there. She was upset enough for one day. Amber and I headed outside, followed by the others. I realized that we had picked up a few onlookers along the way. Outside, I nodded to Amber and we removed our clothes and shifted. She sat in front of me, her silver fur shimmering beautifully in the sunlight. She truly was a wondrous sight to behold. I addressed her respectfully, as she deserved. She would be the Council leader right now had she not turned the job down. I had been placed in that position for a while, but had decided that it didn't suit me. I preferred to be out among the packs, not sitting in the council headquarters deciding the fates of werewolves. I still sat on the supernatural court though. At that moment, part of me regretted the decision to step down as leader. If I hadn't, then Chris and Chloe's future would be my decision. I could and would have allowed them to be together, as the Goddess intended. However, it wasn't my decision, so I needed to just do what I could to support them. "Star, may I ask you a few questions?" I asked. She nodded her head gracefully. I thanked her and began. I asked her to tell me everything that she knew about Alpha Baxter and his mate. She told me that Chris had told Amber about it, and she had helped him. She had stopped him acting impulsively and had been an ear to talk to. She didn't know who had sent the note either. I asked her about the assault on Alpha Simmons. She seemed quite pleased as she answered, "I am proud of Amber for the way that she handled that. We saw that poor Luna being dragged along by that jackass. Amber warned him to stop and let her go. He ignored her and was going to shove Chloe into the trunk of the car. Amber stopped him," she said happily. I felt as though that issue could at least be put to rest. I would not be issuing any charges of assault against Amber. However, I was seriously considering bringing charges against Alpha Simmons. I thanked Star and we shifted. We quickly dressed and headed back inside. I saw Chris's beta approach us. I was about to tell him that we were busy, and he would need to speak with his Alpha later. I don't need any interruptions or any more issues right now. Whatever it was, he should be able to handle it himself in his Alpha's absence. However, it wasn't Chris that he was approaching. "That was amazing!" he said excitedly. Amber laughed "Well, I hope that you are happy now," she said cheerily. He nodded enthusiastically and wiggled his eyebrows at her. I realized that I had missed something. There was obviously an inside joke going on here. I allowed them to finish, and we returned to the meeting room. Marcus Baxter once again positioned himself outside the door to make sure that we were not disturbed. I told them that the person behind the note was still a mystery, and that it would have to remain that way for now, as there are much bigger issues at hand. I told Alpha Simmons that I do not consider Luna Rivers-Morris's actions to be assault and, as such, was dismissing any accusations on the matter. He was furious. He stood up so quickly that he knocked his chair to the ground. He began to yell obscenities at me. I calmly, in a cold and commanding tone, told him to sit down and hold his tongue, or I would have him arrested on the spot. He did as he was told, though I could see that it was hard for him to do so. He was clearly not used to taking orders. I continued to explain that I would need to consult with the council leader on the issue of Alpha Baxter and Luna Simmons wanting to be together. I also said that it was clear that they had not broken any laws. Alpha Simmons was about to start again, but thought better of it and controlled himself. I did enjoy the sight of his face turning a strange shade of purple from holding it in though. I excused myself to make the call to the council leader and update him on everything that had happened. ALPHA COLTON DRAKE I slammed down the phone. So that stupid i***t, Claude Simmons, had gotten himself into a situation and dragged me in too. When he had blackmailed me into allowing him to marry my daughter, I had warned him that my secret had better stay secret. Yet here we are in a situation where it could come out. He had taken Chloe to a f*****g Alpha summit! How stupid was he! I wanted to ring his neck. If Chloe was allowed to be with her mate, then sooner or later the truth that I had kept hidden for all these years would surely come out. I couldn't risk that. Yet the idea of making her stay with that disgusting prick for the rest of her life, when she had found her mate, filled me with sadness and anger. The council leader had told me that they wanted to know about the deal that I had made with Alpha Simmons so that they could decide whether to allow it to be broken. I couldn't tell him the truth. That there was no deal, just a slimy little man extorting my daughter's hand from me. I had considered just killing him and taking her home, but he had told me that he had insurance in place in case anything was to happen to him. I had told the council leader that I would travel to the Moon River pack and meet with this Alpha Baxter for myself. I had bought a little time to figure this out.
