CHAPTER 11:GETTING NOWHERE

COUNCIL MEMBER PERRY I rubbed my temples in frustration. We had been going over everything for an hour now, and were no closer to discovering the truth. Alpha Morris had arrived and had denied knowing anything about a note. Alpha Baxter broke the heavy silence that was currently filling the room. "Council Member Perry, We may not know yet who sent that note to Alpha Simmons, but as they did, causing the truth to come out, perhaps we could discuss the fact that Chloe and I are mates and want to be together." he suggested. Alpha Simmons growled at him. "She is mine. I will not just stand by and watch as you take what belongs to me," he snarled. Alpha Baxter starred at him. "Chloe is not your f*****g property! She is a person who belongs to no-one," he responded. Luna Simmons was looking at him as though he was a knight in shining armor from a fairy tale. Which I suppose, in a way for her, he was. He was offering the possibility to save her from the crappy life that she felt trapped in. This was getting us nowhere. "Alpha baxter, I fully intend to discuss that. However, I would prefer to deal with one thing at a time," I told him. I turned back to Alpha Morris. "Have you spoken with anyone else about Alpha Baxter's new-found mate bond?" I asked. He looked thoughtful for a moment before answering. "I have not. As far as I am aware, everyone who knows is in this room. Although you said that the note said that Luna Simmons was in Alpha Baxter's room. Amber and I didn't know about that. Therefore, neither of us could have sent the note." he said. He had raised a good point. Alpha Simmons began arguing that Alpha Baxter had to have sent the note to force a meeting. Alpha Baxter argued that Alpha Simmons probably found out some other way and wrote the note himself to cause problems. I had listened to enough. If we couldn't figure this out as humans, then I would speak to their wolves instead. I quickly explained that I would use my ability to speak directly to their wolves. I asked them to please not talk while I was doing this. I didn't need silence to be able to connect, but if they weren't talking, then they weren't arguing. I relaxed and concentrated on Alpha Simmons's wolf. I had decided that he would be the best one to start with as he would have seen this note along with Alpha Simmons. I still couldn't believe that the i***t had destroyed the note in anger. We may have been able to learn something from it. Whoever wrote it would likely have left a little of their scent on the paper. Never mind, the note was gone. We would have to do this the hard way. I felt Alpha Simmons wolf. He didn't try to resist me at all. Although he didn't seem too pleased about having to speak to me either. He was a grumpy, black and brown wolf called Ned. He didn't seem to care that Luna Simmons had mated with another man. Then again he wouldn't. She wasn't his mate. I asked him to tell me about the note, about the moment that Alpha Simmons had found it. He did, in great detail. He told me about the she-wolf that Alpha Simmons had been with at the time. About the words on the paper. About the rage that Alpha Simmons had felt when reading it. He finished by telling me all about how Luna Rivers-Morris had in fact just been trying to help Chloe when she had attacked Alpha Simmons. However, he also wanted her punished for that. He began a tirade about how he was an Alpha wolf, and she was just a woman who had absolutely no right to put her hands on him, poor interfere with his business. It quickly became clear that Ned was just as much of a misogynistic arse as his human counterpart. I told him that i would take his views into consideration and pulled myself out of the conversation. I asked them to remain quiet, looking pointedly at Alpha Simmons now that I would be speaking with someone else's wolf. I closed my eyes and began to concentrate again. This time I found myself looking into the green eyes of Rusty, Alpha Morris's wolf. He was a little bit smaller due to being a beta-blooded wolf rather than an Alpha, but he was every bit as capable as any Alpha that I had met. I smiled at him. "Hello Rusty." I greeted him. He nodded his head politely "Council Member Perry. What would you like to know?" he asked. I explained that I wanted to know if Alpha Morris had sent the note. He shook his head gently. "He has been telling you the truth. He knows nothing about this note other than what he has been told in this room. He did know about Alpha Baxter being mates with Luna Simmons. Our mate told us about it. She was trying to ease our worries," he told me. I asked him why Alpha Morris had been worried in the first place. He looked a little ashamed of himself. "We thought that Amber still had feelings for Chris. She seemed to be paying him a lot of attention and there were looks between them. It was a million little things and nothing all at the same time. It was stupid of us to think that our mate would betray us like that," he said. Once I was done speaking with Rusty, I took a moment to just think about what he had said. Amber was right. It did seem out of character for him to act jealously. Especially when he couldn't even fully understand why himself. However, that was the least of my concerns right now. I needed to get on with this. Next, I spoke with Alpha Baxter's sandy coloured wolf, Leo. He was anxious. He had found his mate and was afraid that he would lose her. That she would be sent away with a man who would hurt her and be lost to him. I assured him that I would do everything that I could to make sure that she would be safe, no matter what the outcome was. He calmed down a little and I began to question him. The note had accused him of spending the night with Luna Simmons, which, if true, was a punishable offense in the werewolf community. He admitted that she had come to his room, but that they had done nothing but talk. As Chris had already told me earlier. I nodded, that didn't break any laws, but would need to be proved to fully deal with the accusations. Luckily, Council Member White could help with that. After that I tried to connect with Luna Rivers-Morris's wolf, but couldn't. I tried again, but again nothing. I sighed "Amber dear, you are going to need to let me in. As you are a silver wolf, I cannot just force my way in," I explained. She nodded and said that she would try. I reached out again, but could not penetrate her mind to speak with Star. I told her that we would need to do things a little differently. I would speak with Luna Simmons's wolf first, and then we would go outside and shift into our wolves to talk instead. She agreed at once. I turned my attentions to Luna Simmons. I closed my eyes and reached out to her wolf. I was able to connect, but there was something different about it. There was an element of resistance there, but it didn't appear to be coming from her wolf. I shrugged it off for now and continued to push forward.
