Chapter 7: Life (2) *** Sitting in a luxurious café in the highest floor of the LPA Hotel, Chazz glanced idly at the woman that approached his table and sat down across from him… “So what did you call me for this time? If it’s to suggest another service to you then I’m not doing it anymore… All of my acquaintances tell me I’m insane for constantly asking them for good s*x workers…” The woman said right after sitting down, she was dressed in business casual clothes, black pants, white button down without a tie. She had a pixie cut dark brown hair and her entire manner seemed to be business oriented. “Calm down Roxy… It’s not about that… I think I found someone that does the job well enough, so you don’t have to worry as much.” Chazz replied as he gestured to the waiter to bring out the drinks they’d ordered in advance. “Hm? Then… does that mean you’re moving up with the dead line? Because you only have another week and-” Roxy stopped speaking as the man handed her a flash drive. She looked down at it. “What’s that? The porno you recorded?” She asked jokingly as she picked it up. “Because certainly it’s not your manuscript…” “It’s precisely that…” Chazz replied with a small smirk on his face as if saying ‘You didn’t expect that, right?’ “No way… THE Chazz Barclay is actually giving me his manuscript way before the deadline? I don’t know if I should pinch myself to try and wake up… or is this real?” The obvious tone of sarcasm and mockery in Roxy’s voice could be felt from a mile away. “You can laugh it off after reading it… It’s good.” Chazz said as he picked up his usual black coffee that had just been served. The waitress was quiet and did nothing more or less than come to the table then leave right after serving the drinks. “Ehh? You’re confident as well, hm… I guess I’ll have to check it out now then…” Roxy said as she took out her laptop from the case she was carrying around with her. While setting it up she asked. “So is it a woman or a man this time that’s got you so motivated?” “A man… one I wasn’t expecting to motivate me so…” Chazz replied while looking through the glass window, somehow it felt really relieving to have finished a large portion of your work and being ahead of schedule for once. “Well, well… I wouldn’t believe if it if was anyone else but it’s true, you’re a genius!” Roxy remarked as she read through the first few lines, she was an extraordinary fast reader, thus her profession as an Editor was one of the more suitable and extremely obvious professions for her to take up on. “I know I am…” Chazz replied unfazed, it didn’t even seem like he was particularly pleased with the compliment either. “You managed to do all this in a week’s time?” Roxy asked once more while staring at the man. “How many times did you sleep with the guy? He must have been exhausted…” “Only till morning… it wasn’t even anything special just…” Chazz paused for a bit as if he was hesitating to say, he took another sip from his coffee. “Just?” Roxy leaned forward to listen in, she looked more interested than ever to find out what made the man tick. “He has really nice moans…” Chazz said with a bit of embarrassment clearly audible in his lowered voice. “He even cried a bit even though I didn’t do anything rough…” He continued in an even quieter voice. “Oh… well that’s great, I guess? I didn’t know you had a fetish for that…” Roxy leaned back in her chair and went back to reading the manuscript. “So are you meeting him again soon? Cause this isn’t finished…” “Yeah, tomorrow in fact.” Chazz said as he rested his chin onto the palm of his hand that rested on top of the table. “You… have a rather devious smile on your face…” Roxy remarked as she closed her laptop and put it back in it’s case. “Do I? I guess I’m just excited to see him again…” Chazz said as he looked through the window it was like he could almost feel the man’s tender embrace at that moment. As if he could faintly hear the man’s soft moans underneath him. “It’s actually a bit scary that you don’t realize how you look…” Roxy said as she leaned back into her chair. Her hot chocolate had long gotten cold while talking to the man, she picked it up and brought it to her lips. ‘He hasn’t been so efficient at work for a long while…’ She thought to herself before speaking up again. “Hey… where did you meet that hooker again? It couldn’t have been the Maid service I offered you since they weren’t available…” “Hm? Oh, I guess I forgot to mention, he was a cleaner for a similar named company, he actually got into the wrong apartment, isn’t that cute?” Chazz asked as he smiled while thinking back on it, something about the silliness of the entire ordeal made him chuckle. “Cute, more like bothersome… Being jumped by you isn’t really the best use of a day I can think of… not to mention I’m pretty sure he had a rough time at work after they found out he got the wrong place…” Roxy remarked as she took another big sip of her hot chocolate. Her sweet tooth hadn’t changed for years, this was still her favorite drink and it tasted just as sweet as it usually did. “Haha… not at all… I called them…” Chazz said as he turned his attention away from the window and back to his friend. “And?” Roxy asked with a puzzled expression on her face. “I bought the company.” Chazz said with a rather indifferent sounding voice as if it was something as easy and low effort as it was breathing to him. “Huh? You what now?” Suddenly the look in Roxy’s eyes changed to that of utter disbelief. “I didn’t change much besides the ownership… well I might have put in a good word for the boy in the process… and maybe even-” Chazz was interrupted by the woman that angrily stood up with both her hands on the table leaning her body forward. “Wait, wait, wait… Why on earth are you wasting money on buying some cleaning business?! Are you insane?” Roxy asked, her voice was louder than before, causing the other patrons of the high raise café to turn and glance at their table. “Sit down Roxy, people are starting to stare…” Chazz said in a low yet commanding voice as he looked up at the woman, he didn’t bother standing up nor trying to console her and calm her down. “Let them stare, see if I care!” Roxy said as she sat back down angrily, it was almost an unconscious choice she made to actually listen to the man but still be angry about it. “Why do you mind what I spend my money on so much?” Chazz asked, his voice barely changing tonality from before. “Because… last time you bought that ski resort that closed down soon after and you lost all your money! Not to mention you took your sweet time with writing your next book which significantly slowed down-” Roxy spoke with vigor in her voice before getting interrupted by the man again. “And now you’re the highest paid editor in the country, so what’s your point?” Chazz asked with a voice of exceeding calm, it was like he’d trained, carefully scripted and pre-prepaired his responses to the woman. “You… sir… are in a constant slum, I don’t want to risk going on without money again because of your ridiculous life choices!” Roxy explained in a single breath, by the end of which she quieted down as if she’d exhausted herself mentally. “You know that the company and my own finances are separate now, right? It’s not the same as it was back then Roxy… calm down…” Chazz said as he took out a small pocket watch out and showed it to the woman, dangling it in front of her. “It’s different… than back then…” as if that watch was the embodiment of their old life before the immense fame and success the both of them had right now. “It’s just… I… don’t know why this brings back so many bad memories…” Roxy finally calming down as she realized she had no reason to be so agrivated as she was a few seconds ago. She took a long and deep breath then closed her eyes for a bit. “Then don’t think about it… It will never happen again…” Chazz said as he put the watch down on the table and pushed it forward so it will reach the woman. “I know…” Roxy looked down at the watch and picked it up with both hands then held it as if it was something precious. ‘Chazz really has changed in the last few years… then yet I guess we both have… before it was just the two of us in our little world and now… now…’ She looked back up to glance at the man who was staring out the window with a vacant expression on his face… ‘Now I don’t think I’d be able to recognize either of us… much less would… he be able to…’ She thought of the face of a dear old friend of theirs…
