Chapter 8: Done Deal (1) *** ‘Alright… so another job came in from Chazz Barclay… I guess that means I should go prepared… no… wait should I shower?’ Nash stood there wondering to himself as he looked down at the ticket with the job he was given. In their company they give these little notes where you get the address and name of the person who’s house you’ll be cleaning, then you get the client to sign the ticket once the job is done. ‘Maybe… I shouldn’t go? But then yet he’s really paying me… and he’s a really good man as well… and it is just s*x anyways so why am I even thinking about this? Tommy… he needs his medicine and this is the first month I’ve been able to splurge on food…’ Nash thought to himself before he got snapped back into reality by someone grabbing his shoulders and somewhat hugging him from behind. “What’s the matter matey~? You’re staring so hard at that work ticket that your eyes are probably going to pop out of your skull!” Sofia remarked as she peaked to see who the client was. “Ah… I was just a little lost in thought…” Nash said as he put on his usual smile while talking to his co-workers. “You sure? You were pretty serious back there, don’t think I’ve ever seen you look like that…” Sofia remarked, “Tell you what I can take this job for you and handle-” She was interrupted. “No, it’s alright… See this client is a great tipper and I’d be at a loss without some extra income so…” Nash stumbled over his words a bit but the woman seemed more than understanding. “I get it… Don’t worry man…” Sofia tapped the man’s back as if telling him everything was alright. Then in a lower than usual voice she said. “If you ever need money for anything, I’ll help you out so just ask me whenever…” She leaned back a bit and continued with a more carefree tone. “Well it would be best to ask me around the time my paycheck arrives.” ‘Sofia… she tries to act like it doesn’t matter to her… but in truth she really worries for me…’ Nash thought to himself, he knew the woman’s carefree attitude was just so he wouldn’t feel bad about borrowing money from her. But he did feel bad, every time he had to ask her, he felt like crying.”It’s alright! As I said I’m making good money at the moment… but… thank you really…” “Come on, no need to be so damn serious with me!” Sofia once more spoke in a carefree voice, trying to make light of the matter but she too realized just how bad the man’s position was. “I’ll be heading out now, I only have one job for the day, so I probably won’t be back later…” Nash said as he waved his co-worker goodbye and headed to his vehicle. ‘Lately he’s really had less work… or maybe I’m just imagining things?’ Sofia wondered to herself then shrugged her shoulders and headed back to see her own work tickets. * * * Nash rang the familiar door bell and waited, it took the man about a minute to actually come to the door and opened it and this time Chazz looked disheveled. His clothes and hair were a complete mess, nothing like his usual put together self. ‘Has he been fighting a bear or something?’ Nash wondered to himself as the man invited him in his apartment. “I’m sorry for my appearance… I haven’t had much luck today either…” Chazz said as he closed the door behind his guest. “See my ex-wife really is a nasty woman, I’m starting to wonder how our marriage even survived as long as it did, haha…” He tried to laugh it off. ‘At this point even I’m starting to wonder how your marriage lasted… She cheats on you and then comes here to beat you and throw things around the house on the regular, seems like domestic violence to me…’ Nash thought to himself as he held back from asking questions, feeling like it really wasn’t his place to do so. “So do you want to have a drink?” Chazz offered as he brought out a freshly cooled bottle of wine out from the kitchen. “I’m still on the clock…” Nash said as he waved his hands back and forth. ‘It looks like the expensive stuff as well… I want to try it…’ He thought to himself. “Isn’t this your only job for the day?” Chazz asked with a bit of a puzzled look on his face. ‘I thought I made it clear I didn’t want him having any other jobs for the day…’ “It is but I wonder if it’s alright to drink…” Nash said while looking at the bottle. ‘Wonder if it’s any good…’ He thought to himself. “It’s perfectly fine. But you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Chazz said as he put the alcohol away, feeling like it wouldn’t be any fair for him to drink while the other just watches him. “Aren’t we going to the bedroom?” Nash asked as he looked at the staircase. ‘Damn it… I really wanted some of the wine…’ He thought to himself as he tried to keep his mind focused on his job. “Are you in a hurry perhaps?” Chazz asked as he sat down on the sofa and urged the man to do the same. “No, I just thought I was here to have…” Nash paused for a bit and spoke in a quieter voice… “…sex with you, sir…” He finished his sentence. “Is that not why I’m here…” “I mean… we are here for that, but it doesn’t mean we can’t talk before, right? So… what do you like to do in your free time?” Chazz suggested a topic while placing his arm on the back of the sofa, leaning on it. “Sorry sir, this feels strange…” Nash looked away as if embarrassed. ‘Somehow… he’s so gentle for no apparent reason…’ He thought to himself, feeling unsettled. “If you want to we can skip to the sexy part faster… but I believe setting the mood is important… You can ask me things too if you don’t want to answer my questions.” Chazz said as he sighed a bit too loudly. ‘How do I bring up the deal to him in a way where it won’t come off as completely tactless?’ He wondered to himself. “Then… I’ve been meaning to ask…” Nash extended his arm to reach out to the man’s chest and slid his hand down reaching a small scar on the very side of the man’s rub cage. “This scar here, where’s it from?” “This? I don’t really remember… I believe Sabrina tried to stab me with a broken beer bottle one time, then yet it was a while ago.” Chazz said as he glanced at the scar, he didn’t pay much attention to things like that and had long forgotten where it came from, it didn’t hold much significance to him in the first place. “That doesn’t sound like something insignificant… yet you talk as if… sorry…” Nash paused once more realizing he was being rude, “Is it weird that I talk like that? As if it’s nothing?” Chazz asked as he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his legs. “A little bit…” Nash admitted. ‘I just can’t get over how calm he is about all of this… it somehow feels wrong…’ He thought to himself. “It’s not that I don’t care, or that it doesn’t hurt… I just feel indifferent to it since it happens so often. She comes here to trash the place whenever she feels like doing it, throws things my way and I do the best to avoid them… It’s become a regular occurrence at this point.” Chazz confessed, his expression “Why don’t you just kick her out? I don’t see a reason to allow her here anymore… Especially if you two are over.” Nash said as he finally seemed to feel comfortable enough with the man as to not stumble over his words. “Well, if I stop letting her trash the place then she threatened to never let me see my baby girl again… so I just let her do whatever.” Chazz said as he looked around the apartment. “Nothing in here is as valuable as my baby so…” “You have a kid?!” Nash asked with clear surprise written all over his face. ‘He seems too young to have a kid though!’ He thought to himself. “Haha… oh no… well I guess in a way she is my daughter. She’s my dog actually, a found her when she was around two months old, on my way back from a lecture… She followed me back home so I decided to keep her… We’ve been together ever since.” Chazz explained as he pulled out his phone. “Look, isn’t she adorable!” He showed the man a picture of his dog. “She’s… cute…” Nash said as he saw the picture on the screen. ‘I guess even he can smile like that when he’s next to his pet…’ What surprised Nash the most about the picture was Chazz’s shiny smile that looked like it could blind you if you saw it in real life. “Unfortunately Sabrina took her in for now… Her lawyer came up with some bullshit reason for her to keep her but after the trial in a few weeks passes then I’ll get my baby back, then… I won’t have to see Sabrina’s face ever again…” Chazz said as he put his phone away again. “How old is your dog?” Nash asked. “She’s 13 years old this year…” Chazz said as he smiled fondly thinking about it. “My baby, her name is Sasha… She’s been with me for such a long time, she’s basically my best friend, my soul mate! The reason I’m still alive today…” “You really do love her… that’s amazing…” Nash said as he smiled while looking at the man’s expression. “Hm? Don’t all owners love their pets as if they were their own children?” Chazz asked as if it was obvious. “Oh… do you have any pets?” He questioned. “No, I’ve never had the time to take care of one…” Nash admitted as he moved his hand on his side. “Say… let’s stop talking about this…” “Right… then do you want to go up to the bedroom with me?” Chazz asked as he stood up and extended his hand to the man, offering it to him. “Yeah…” Nash nodded his head as he stood up and took the man’s hand, while heading to the bedroom he felt like his heart might jump out of his chest if he wasn’t careful enough…
