"Ugh, Stop." I slammed my hand on my alarm clock for the fifth time. Why is this thing on? My head sprung off my pillow as I realized that I actually have to go to school today. Completely awake, i threw myself out of bed, frantically running into my washroom. "Mom!" I screamed from the shower before i realized she was probably gone. Nate had school and she had work. After a quick shower and after I quickly got dressed, I headed out the door. I froze. Do I have to lock the door? Looking at my phone, I realized that I didn't have time to search for my key. I was already late. "s**t" I murmured to myself as I hurried down the street. Was this the right way? How am i suppose to get into University when I can't even be on time. As I anxiously looked for a sign that I was going the right way, a car sped by me. It was the car I saw last week, when we first moved in. Shiny red BMW. I searched my brain to see if this information was of use. Yes, I'm going the right way. After five more minutes of hectic speed walking, I finally saw the school. I let out a breathe of relief and hurried into the building. I quickly entered into the main office. "Hi, I'm new here. Leigh Herman" I barely manage to say The Secretary smiled politely over the counter at me as she searched for my file. "Here you go" she said, handing me a pile of paper "This is your schedule, it has your locker number on it as well. These forms are for your parents to sign and return. Now hurry to class, you don't want to be too late on your first day" I smiled at her briefly then I hurried down the hall. Which way do I go? I scanned the paper wondering where my history class was located. As I turned a corner into another hall, I hit something. Hard. More surprised than anything, I fell to the ground, my papers flying out of my hands. When I looked up, bright green eyes met mine. He stared down at me for awhile before he spoke. His face flashed from amused to impassive Both hands were in his pocket. His jaw clenched. "Are you alright?" he inquired. After an awkward minute of me waiting for him to offer a hand, I helped myself up, gathering my papers "I'm fine" I responded finally. "Good. Watch where you're going" he ordered as he continued walking. I froze as I watched him walk down the hallway. I scowled. Ass. I bet this school was full of them. "A few more months..." I rehearsed as I finished gathering my stuff and headed down the hallway again. -- At lunch, I walked out into the courtyard with my head down. I was happy the day was almost over. I actually think i can do this. The teachers are nice, no one bothers me, and the workload is fine so far. It was the first day back after the Christmas break. I'm just happy my credits from last semester at my old school got transferred and i don't have to retake anything i've already completed. "Leigh" I looked around at the unfamiliar faces in shock. I relaxed when I saw Jessie from my history class this morning. I slapped a smile on my face, and slowly walked over to her and her friends. "Sit, sit" she was eager. Her hair colour was similar to mine, dark brown. Except mine was much more curlier, considering i'm mixed. I complied and sat down beside her. "This is Amy and Lauren" she continued as she gestured to each of her friends who waved politely. Amy had chic glasses that fitted her face perfectly. Lauren had curly hair that was no doubt half extensions. I heard a loud outburst of laughter and i looked up from my lunch. I recognized the same kids from the creek the last week. I knew his face all too well now. It was the same guy I bumped into in the hallway. Ass. He had on a blue hoodie over dark pants. He sat on the top of the lunch table, his fingers quickly running through his hair. His jaw was chiseled and he had thin lips. I narrowed my eyes at him. "So how's your first day so far?" Lauren asked as she took a bite of her sandwich. "Not bad" I admitted A tall guy with black hair and dark blue eyes sat down beside Lauren, sitting across from me. Lauren suddenly became giddy causing me to roll my eyes. "Hi Xavier" They said in unison as if they were some crazed obsessed girl group. I am defiantly finding somewhere else to eat. "Ladies," he acknowledged as he flashed an adorable smile. I looked away from the table and over at the group I was looking at originally. I chewed on the inside of my cheek as I examined his features. For the second time today, our eyes met. His face was impassive, his eyes hard and distant. He looked away before I could scowl at him. "That's Trent Logan" Xavier stated, pulling me out of my gaze. I looked at him as he motioned towards the group. Huh, the Ass had a name. "Stupid name" I murmured, more to myself than to anyone else. Amy spat out whatever she had in her mouth and snickered. Xavier had a faint smile on his lips "Not a fan?" "Far from it" I sneered returning back to my lunch "Any reason in particular?" Xavier implored. He seemed really interested in my opinion. "He's an ass" I said simply. Jesse had her mouth open as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "That's a first" Xavier smiled, the corner of his lips going further up. As lunch slowly went by, I kept quiet as I listened to their conversations. When the bell rang I made my way to class with Jessie. As we walked towards my next class, Jessie seemed to have something on her mind. "What?" I sighed "So you really don't like him?" she questioned as if it's unimaginable. "No. It's not a big deal" I retorted. People don't like people everyday, it's the way of life. I definitely didn't care if he liked me or not. "But how could you not like that sexy face" she insisted "And those eyes..." I shook my head at her. "I think maybe you shouldn't be so gullible to outward appearances. Nonetheless, I think you're outta luck, he has a girlfriend" Jessie snorted "Please. He changes girlfriends at least once a month. How do you know he has a girlfriend...?" she raised her eyebrows at me. As i checked my schedule to make sure i was in the right room i looked at her. "They were at the park near my house the day i was moving in" I responded. She stood outside the door and waited as i placed my bag on a seat in the back and then went back out in the hallway. "That's where you live? I might be visiting often" she winked I really regretted asking this. "Why?" "He's always there" "you don't think that's kind of weird?" I raised an eyebrow at her "Nothing he does is weird" The bell rang. I turned to enter back into the classroom until she held my arm "nothing" she repeat quietly. I shook my head at her as she walked off to her class. Half way through Mr.Piers PowerPoint slide on Maslow's pyramid of satisfaction, the door to our business class open and in walked Trent Logan. "Mr. Logan, how nice of you to join us today. Have a seat" I bit the back of my pen as I watched him maneuver his way through the rows of desks and took a seat on the other side of the classroom. After another 10 minutes, we were left to read pages from the textbook that was handed out at the beginning of class. "Here Trent, we can share my book" I looked over at the other side of the room. A dark hair girl turned in her seat, placing her book on Trent's desk. I really don't know how one of them were going to read upside down. "Maybe you should just sit on my lap" he smiled at her. She was blushing like a fool. "Mr. Logan" Mr. Pier placed a textbook on his desk after indicating for the girl to turn herself around. She took her book off his desk and turned in her chair. "Let's not have a repeat of last years attendance" He returned back to his chair at the front of the class. "Next time" He said to the girl "Awe, really?" He nodded his head as a smirk spread across his lips. I rolled my eyes and returned to the book in front of me. "You're sweet" He laughed lightly. "Some people say I'm an ass" "You're lying" she dismissed. I stopped reading, careful not to look up. I breathed. He couldn't be talking about what i said to Xavier. Why do I even care, he is an ass. I went back to reading my book until the bell rang. The rest of the day went by fast and i was more than happy to be heading home right now. The wind was mild and the temperature was warm. It felt nice to have my hair blowing in the wind. "Bye Leigh" Amy called as she headed to the parking lot. I waved to her. As I walked home, I realized that it really doesn't take that long. As I pass the Porsche in the drive way, I entered into the house. "Leigh, did you leave the front door unlock this morning?" my mom questioned "What, me? No... I'm sure I locked it..." She narrowed her eyes at me and I shrugged. "Leigh" Nate ran to me with excitement. "Hi, baby" I said with equal excitement picking him up. "How old are you again" "Four" he smiled, showing me five fingers all at once. I laughed, kissing his cheek. "What did you do today?" I ask him as i walked into the living room, throwing my bag on the couch. I Sat down. "I-i-i went to-o-o-o school." he stammered, smiling at me "You did?" I asked as if surprised, widening my eyes at him. "Yes" he shouted, placing his palms on my cheeks and squeezing them. "Did you have fun?" He nodded his head and pecked me on my cheek. He ran out of my lap and sat back down in front of the television. "How was school?" my mom asked from the kitchen. She had her black hair in a bun. Flour was all over her caramel shaded skin. "Fine" I answered, glancing at the TV "Well go wash up, dinner is ready"
