Deciding that I'd rather go down than have her come up, Trent and I went downstairs.
She was in the living room... with my father?!?! What the @#%#@#
"Honey, I though you were sleeping... who's this?" She asked, completely shocked when she saw Trent.
When she rose her hand to gesture towards Trent, something reflected the light off her finger.
"Mom, what's on your hand?" I asked, completely thrown off guard.
"Don't answer my question with a question. What is a boy doing in your room while I'm not home?"
"Hi, Mrs. Herman. I'm Trent Logan." Trent held his hand out to my mom, but she was too angry to look away from me.
"Hi, Trent. I'm Leigh's dad. Nice to meet you." My father said, stepping forward and shaking Trent's hand. "Sorry about all of this... at least you know where the kids get their temper from" He smiled, trying to make light of the situation.
My mom and I turned and glared at him. Trent laughed and then stopped, looking around as I turned my stare at him.
"Why is there a ring on your finger?" I finally asked her, getting annoyed that my question wasn't being answered.
She took my dad's hand in hers "Because, we are getting married"
"You know polygamy is illegal in the US right?" I was frustrated. Here I was, thinking she was out meeting new people while she was out getting engaged to a man that was already married.
"Leigh, we have company. We will talk about this tomorrow."
"I just came over to help babysit Nathan, cute kid." Trent smiled.
"That was sweet of you. I truly apologize for this, come by anytime." My mom smiled, taking her leave.
"Good night sweetheart. Nice meeting you Trent." My dad followed my mom to her room.
"That went well" Trent chuckled.
"This isn't funny" I murmured, walking to the door and opening it "I'll see you tomorrow."
He walked up to me, rising my chin. He kissed me softly. "Good night."
I closed the door and walked to the living room, picking up my green rose. The small paper strip reading: Be Mine
I blushed and smiled to myself. I can't even enjoy what Trent and I did. The relationship between my parents was so f****d up. I went back to my room and pressed the rose down between a book.
---
"Yes, their getting married" I said to the receiver, pulling my pants over my legs.
"Awe, Leigh, that's so romantic. They've been together before you were born."
"Obviously!"
"Don't get rude with me." Ashlee snapped
"Sorry" I murmured. I didn't want to talk about it anymore "how was your valentine's day?"
"Perfect. Avi came and visited me. We went to the movies, and then for ice cream, he even got me this gold necklace... we got busy..."
"You guys had s*x?"
"Don't be a hater Leigh"
"I'm not... Trent and I..."
"YOU WHAT?" she screamed, waiting for me response. I told her the whole story from the rose, to him coming over, and then our deed, the 'I love you', and then my parents.
"What did he say after you told him?"
"He didn't say anything. He didn't have to" I defended.
"Omg, Leigh, that's bad..."
"Why's that bad?" My heart was beating out of my chest. I stopped getting ready for school and sat on my bed with the phone to me ear.
"If he didn't say it back... that's kinda embarrassing..."
"Why would you say that to me. I wasn't embarrassed until you brought it up. Have you never heard the say ignorance is bliss?!?!"
"I'm sorry... I kinda want you to visit me this weekend... don't go to school..."
"You b***h" s**t. Now I don't even want to face him now that I'm aware of how it looks.
"Stop complaining, you can come here, we can go to the movies, check out the new restaurant that open... go to the beach... I have no one to hang out with. Plus it's one day, tomorrow is the weekend, it's not that bad." She explained.
What choice do I have now?
"Whatever"
"I love you Leigh."
"Kiss my ass"
She laughed and I smiled and hung up the phone.
I got up from my bed and headed to the kitchen. My mom was making breakfast and my dad was sitting on a stool around the bar. When I entered, they were laughing and kissing.
I rolled my eyes and immediately put on a huge smile.
"Good morning" I sang
"Good morning. Are you ready for school?" My mom asked
"About that... see... I kinda wanted to visit Ashlee today..."
"That's fine. I'll drop you there when school is over."
"Mhh" I said pretending to think about it "I wanted to go now..." I looked around the room, avoiding her eyes
"And miss school? Why would you even ask that question? the answer is no."
I threw my hands out in anger. I looked at my dad who was focusing on his plate in front of him. "Daddy..." I haven't used that word, or voice since I was 10 and I found out about their actual relationship.
He looked up in astonishment as if unsure I was actually talking to him "Yes, sweetheart?"
"Can I go?" I asked, pouting.
"O-Ofcourse you can" he stuttered.
"Daniel!" My mom bellowed
"Katherine..." he murmured
"Mom, my father... who has helped bring me upon this land we call home... has given me his blessing... to go and see my dear friend... who we all love..." I emphasized.
"Save it. I can't believe this right now" she threw her hands up in frustration "Fine. get ready."
"Do you have somewhere to stay? Would you like me to book you a hotel?" My dad asked searching his pocket
"Daniel, you're spoiling her" my mom snarled
"She's my only daughter" he said pulling out his credit card and his phone.
I smiled victoriously as my mom shook her head at me
"Can I drive?"
"Leigh, now you're pushing it. You don't even have your license, for heaven's sakes."
"Daddy" I looked at him for a second opinion. This was kinda fun, I laughed to myself.
He looked at him mom "she can use my car"
"Leigh!"
"Fine." Maybe I was kinda pushing it. "I'll be down in 30 minutes."
---
We were on our way to Long beach. I had a hotel reservation for the weekend, my dad gave me pocket money and his credit card, even though I explained to him that I still had the one he gave me when we first moved here. He really was trying to make me happy... maybe I'll talk to him about what happened between him and mom... one day... maybe...
My mom was suspiciously silent as she entered the highway.
"You know you shouldn't take advantage of your father like that. He would do anything for you kids"
"I understand" I whined. I didn't want to get into this right now.
We continued to drive in silence for a few minutes.
"So why don't you want to go to school? Is it because of that boy?"
I blushed remember what Trent and I did last night "No" I looked out the window.
"You can talk to me, you know"
I sighed "I told him I loved him and he said nothing."
"That doesn't mean he doesn't feel the same way. Give him time"
"I'd rather not talk about it. I'm not ready to face him yet"
"It'll be fine. He seems like a very sweet boy... and very cute"
I looked at her and she was smiling. I rolled my eyes as she winked at me.
"He's not your type mom"
"I'm hot enough to be a jaguar"
"Its cougar" I laughed.
"Same animal" she smiled
"You know they're not" I rest my head on her shoulder and we continued in traffic
---
"Okay, love you. Call me"
She dropped me at the hotel entrance and waved as she drove off. I waved back, then pulled my small suit case inside. Yes, it's only a weekend but I like to have options and I hate having a feeling that I left something important so I bring anything that fits. I'm horrible at packing.
The hotel was beautiful. Inside was spacious and the walls were marble. A huge diamond chandelier huge from the ceiling and I had no doubt that it was real. I got my room key and headed to my room.
It felt so weird not being in school. I never skipped before.
After I called room service and ordered breakfast.
My phone started vibrating with messages
Jessie: not comin to class 2day?
Me: no, im feelin kinda sick
Jessie: sucks. feel better
Me: thnks
The hotel phone rang. They called to tell me that they weren't serving breakfast anymore and apologized for the inconvenient and asked me to order something else
Sean: y r u skipping skool?
me: i'm sick, not skipping.
I felt so bad lying.
Sean: srry about yesterday. I had to head home early.
Me: i forgive you.... Muah!
Xavier: why are you kissing Sean in text
Me: how did you know that?
Xavier: he's showing everyone. btw, i hope you feel better.
Me: thnks <3
My phone vibrated again and my breath stopped. It was an unknown number asking me where I was. When i asked the person who they were, I already knew the answer. Even through text I could hear his sexy voice.
Trent: where are you?
Me: not at school
Trent: I'm aware of that. how sick are you?
Me: sick
Trent: that's not what I meant.
Me: I know
I didn't want to lie to him. Thoughts of last night rushed to my mind and embarrassment washed over me.
Trent: I was looking forward to seeing you today
Me: really? me too.
Trent: yes, especially now since I have to buy Sean a new phone
Me: why? what happened?
Trent: I warned you about your kissing
Me: You're joking! You broke his phone? That's so irrational!
A knock came at my door and I sighed, putting my phone away.
After lunch I decided to take a look around the hotel. There was an outdoor and indoor pool, a fitness room, shopping center, a spa, a couple of restaurants, and a bar.
I waited for Ashlee in the lobby. She walked in as if she was a celebrity. long curly hair, big sunglasses the took over half her face and heels. Even though I was upset that she brought me to the light, It was always good to see her.
After we created a scene in the lobby, I helped her with her bag to the room.
It was around 6:30 pm and she was still on the phone laughing with Xavier. I took the time to check my phone
Trent: you're not at home, where are you?
Me: why'd you go to my house
Trent: I wanted to see if you were okay. your mom told me you weren't there. are you trying to hide from me, Leigh?
Me: why would you say that??
Trent: Your mom mentioned something about my feelings. I have no idea what she meant.
I was going to kill her!
Me: No, everything is okay. Baby I'm fine.
I hesitated to press send. I called him baby yesterday and he seemed to like it... I pressed send.
Trent: I want to see you.
My heart contracted.
Me: me too
Trent: tell me where you are
Ashlee slapped me on my leg "let's head out. I want to make sure the movie isn't sold out"
I pushed my phone in my pocket, avoiding his message. I wasn't ready to show my face yet.
