Cody's Pov:
Cody Milore. The only son of Melody Milore, a billionaire fashion designer and the founder of billion dollar modelling agency. I'm 24 years old and I'm an artist. I lived in the UK for about ...ten years. At first I lived with my cousin and her husband then when I was 18, I moved out. I lived alone in London. Painting and painting and painting. Nothing else. Just living my dream. But like all dreams, it had to come to an end. I came home. To New York City.
My mother practically begged me to return because apparently she's “lonely” without me. So yeah. Nothing interesting has happened. Unlike in London, there was always something going on. I wonder what ever happened to the coffee girl though. Elisabeth was it? A weird one if you ask me.
Elizabeth's Pov:
The sound of my phone buzzing wakes me up from my afternoon nap. I groan but pick up without even checking who it is.
“Hello?” I mumble onto the phone.
“I expected you to sound more enthusiastic.” Angeline says mockingly.
I sit up and rub the sleep out of my eyes.
“Sorry.” I say yawning. “I was asleep. How are you?”
“I miss you. Let's meet up for lunch.”
“Sure. What time?” I ask as I get up from the bed.
“Meet me in ten at Rissa's.”
“Ok. See you then.”
I freshen my frizzy messed up hair, fixing my curls. Wearing a sweater, some sneakers and jeans, I walk to Rissa's. It's a burger joint a few blocks away from my house.
When I get there I go inside and sit down, waiting for Angeline.
I see her through the window and it's almost like a movie scene. She gets out of the car and her long golden hair flys about. She's wearing a white crop top and black flared jeans. She flashes her killer smile and basically catwalks in. She's on the phone, giggling and playing with her hair. Guys eye her with lust and girls with envy. She gets off the phone and waves at them.
I get up as she approaches.
“Hey you! I've missed you!” she says hugging me tightly.
“Me too.” I say genuinely. I really have.
We sit down and order burgers and fries.
“So...how have you been?” she asks taking my hand in hers.
“I've been...on a rollercoaster, over the past two weeks but I'm ok now.” I say chuckling lightly. “I got the job. ”
“Beth…! I'm so happy for you!” she beamed. “You deserve this babe.”
“Thank you. I still can't believe it myself.” I laugh.
After a few burgers, ok, a lot of burgers, a lot of laughing and smiling, Angeline drops me home. I smile at myself as I walk onto the porch.
I open the door to find my parents in the living room. My mom is crying while my dad consoles her.
“Mom? What's wrong?” I immediately ask concerned.
I kneel beside her wipe her tears.
She cries even more and I'm just confused right now.
“Mom?”
You know that thing that happens when your mom cries? Well yeah. It was happening to me. My eyes watered.
“Im so sorry Beth…”she whimpered.
“About what?” I asked confused.
She looked at dad and nodded.
Dad took my hand in his.
“We love you so much Beth. You know that right?”dad says softly.
“Yeah…” I hesitate.
“You're everything to us. We love you beyond words.”he continues“There's no easier way to say this but... you're not our biological daughter…”he trails off.
“We adopted you when you were only a few months old.” mom sniffles.“We were told that you're mom was...incapable of raising you. I don't know why. But we fell in love with you...”
“Woah woah woah. Im... adopted…?” I choke.
Mom nods, wiping the river of tears flowing from her eyes.
I just stare at them after after what seemed like ages…
“So why are you telling me? I mean there must be a reason as to why you lied to my for the past twenty years.” I say with a lot of bitterness in my voice.
Mom and dad exchange looks.
Dad clears his throat before speaking.
“Your mother is back and she pressed charges against us. She says we stole you and took you without your permission.” dad says sitting beside me.
I don't say anything. I just look and the floor. Mom, or whoever she is, puts a hand and my back to console me.
I shove at away and get up.
“I need to go.” I say in a quiet tone.
I run outside and get in my car and drive away. In the rear view mirror, I can see my dad and mom running after me. But I don't stop. I have to go. Before I lose my mind.
