Chapter 5

James I scowled. What the f**k? This was where the asshole wanted to pull off the deal? This place was a shithole. I couldn't wait to get done with this. I glanced around the place before looking at my watch. He would be here any minute now. I took in my surroundings. The neon lights bounced off the walls. The music was sucky. Couples were making out in the dark recesses of the room. How the f**k is this shitty place called a club? I couldn't wait to get out of here. I turned around and took a seat at the bar and asked the bartender for a drink. A blonde sauntered up to me. She wore a dress that showed off her cleavage and left nothing to the imagination. She had slim hips and her hair fell in waves over her shoulders. Her heels made her come just up to my chin level. I smirked. I needed a night off. And she was the remedy. She placed her hand on my bicep and smiled up at me. " Buy me a drink?", she asked me, staring at my lips. I wasn’t ignorant to the fact that I was appealing to the female population. With my dark hair and a physique I worked to maintain, I knew the ladies swooned over me and I certainly had no objection. I ran a finger across her lips and smiled, "Sure". She beamed at me. I ordered a drink for her. She moved forward so she was practically sitting in my lap. "So," she said, "Are you here with someone?". I shook my head. If possible, she looked more pleased. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around. It was him. I glared at the man. Then turning to the blonde, I bent down and bit her earlobe. She moaned softly and moved her hands along my thighs. "Wait here. I'll be right back.", I whispered in her ear. She giggled and nodded her head. I walked to the other end of the bar with the man. He turned to me. "Do you have the paper?", he asked. In answer I subtly nodded. Then I reached into my pocket and pulled out a wad of 1000 dollar bills. No one could see the paper squashed between them. I handed it over to the man. Then leaning forward, I said to him, “My part is done. You didn't see me. I wasn't here. Do you understand?" The man looked at me once and nodded. Then he walked off. I visibly relaxed and returned to the bar. The blonde wasn't there. I saw a movement in the shadows behind the bar. It was her. Making out with a brunette. I raised my eyebrows. Wow. Sure didn't see that coming. I chuckled. I turned around to take my drink from the bartender. That's when I saw her. She looked so out of place. I actually froze and stared at her. She was sitting at the counter with her legs crossed. I could only see the side of her face. She had curly brown hair that framed her face in ringlets. Her fingers were nervously playing with the chain on her neck. She had on lipstick that made her lips look full and sweet and I had the sudden urge to taste them. That only surprised me more. I could see no hint of any blush on her face. Her eyelashes were long. I made out some mascara streaks on her cheek. Had she been crying? Then she turned in my direction as if searching for someone in the crowd. She looked like a deer caught in headlights. Frightened and scared. But damn. She looked so appealing. It wasn't as if she was dolled up. On the contrary she was simplicity personified. The dress hugged her figure, accentuating her breasts. I could tell she was curvy. My eyes raked over her body. And my breathing faltered. What the f**k was wrong with me? I never reacted to women this way. Hell. I couldn’t remember the last time a woman had snagged my attention without doing something. So what was it about this one? Even though she was looking in my direction her eyes didn't stray to me. I was shocked. I was insulted. I was in her line of sight, damn it. And I certainly was worth looking at. I scowled. Was she doing it on purpose? I stared at her, searching her face. She wasn't anything like the blonde. In fact, she was far from it. She was nothing like the regular girls I hooked up with. She looked almost innocent. And her face was scrunched up in a frown. I had to admit she looked really cute. She was biting her lower lip, getting frantic with every passing second. And yet I couldn't seem to take my eyes off her. She was obviously searching for someone and she couldn't find her. Or him. No. She couldn't be here with a guy. No one in his right mind would leave someone like her all alone. The bartender arrived with another drink distracting me for a moment. I took it and thanked him. I drank it in one gulp and continued to stare at the girl. She didn't even notice my presence. If she did she didn't show any indication. I was fascinated by the way she kept chewing on her lip. She was nervous. Very nervous. What was she doing here then? This didn't seem like a place she would come to. It was too loud. She looked like someone who preferred candlelight and soft talk. Shaking my head at my own assumptions, I walked over to her. Her head was turned in the opposite direction. I opened my mouth to say hello when a couple appeared next to her. She looked relieved to see them and got up to hug the girl. I closed my mouth and turned away. Damn it. When I looked her way again she was gone. Well done, James.
