“ You lied to me. You made me believe that you loved me. How dare you lie to me?” The mysterious boy asked making me gasp as I suddenly realized why his eyes were like that.
“ Rogue. You're a rogue wolf.” I said as my eyes widened.
Feeling terrified, I stumbled and collapsed to the ground, unable to maintain eye contact with him. My wolf whimpered in fear, recognizing the danger of his presence. Dizziness washed over me as he approached, his powerful wolf subduing my own and leaving me defenseless. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, the door beside me swung open, jolting me back to awareness.
“Valerie, are you okay?” A voice asked gaining my attention.
As a group of people stormed in to subdue the boy, my head spun, and my vision blurred, making it impossible to discern their faces. Overwhelmed by the chaos, I blacked out and collapsed. When I regained consciousness, I found myself surrounded by unfamiliar walls and scents. Getting out of bed, I stood up, looking through the window. Seeing people playing outside, I recognized them immediately the moment I saw them.
“ Oh no, I can't believe this,” I said as I reached for my bag, grabbing it to leave.
“ Where do you think you're going?” Dominic asked gaining my attention.
The sight of him sitting by the chair near the wall caught me off guard. As he slowly rose and walked toward me, the vivid memory of him saving me flooded back, dispelling any doubt that it was just a dream. The way my once hostile bullies now treated me with unexpected kindness hinted at a startling revelation. It seemed apparent that they had uncovered the truth, and their newfound behavior was a clear reflection of that.
“You and I need to talk, Valerie. I know you saw it too. The rope.” Dominic said grabbing my hand.
“ I didn’t see anything! I have no idea what you are talking about so you guys should stop bothering me. I don’t want to have anything to do with you people.” I spat angrily removing my hand from his before I left.
Rushing down the stairs, I kept my gaze down as I hurried out of the building, determined to reach the gate before any of them could stop me. By the time I made it home, the sun had already set, casting the world in the colors of evening. Stepping into the house, I headed straight upstairs and slumped onto my bed, my mind racing with thoughts of what to do next. I knew one thing for sure about those boys, they never knew when to quit. My life in the pack was already filled with misery, and the last thing I wanted was for them to continue their bullying and harassment. The earlier incident flashed through my mind. Being a target of bullying by several individuals, I couldn't discern who had set me up before, nor did I confide in Leo about it. It was clear that I needed to be extra cautious. Whoever was currently targeting me was doing so because of Leo, and that meant I had to watch my back even more carefully.
“ Sweetie, your birthday is important. Why don’t you want to celebrate it?” My mother asked, trying to get me to celebrate my upcoming 18th birthday, which was just a few weeks from now.
The thought of having to find my mate per the tradition on my birthday was terrifying. It meant my secret could be uncovered. With no other choice, I made up my mind to seek out my four bullies and plead with them not to show up. I was well aware that I couldn't avoid throwing the party since my father would never allow it, so my only hope was to prevent them from attending. Maybe if they stayed away, I could keep my secret hidden.
“Why do we have to do what you want?” Zane asked making me scoff at him.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s because you have tormented me since forever and it’s my birthday party. The last thing I want is for things to go badly because of one of you. Just like before at the rooftop.” I said
“We saved you at the rooftop, have you forgotten? If it wasn’t for us, that rogue wolf could have forced himself on you.” Dominic argued.
“You guys are more dangerous than a million rogue wolves. I don’t want you at my party. Is that too much to ask? Can’t you do this for me?” I asked staring at all of them.
“Fine. We won’t come to your party. After all, I have other things to do that day than attend your party.” Callum, the quietest person in the group, said, speaking for the first time in forever.
Callum was different. Although he excluded a bad boy aura, he also had nerdy, mysterious features. His brown hair and beautiful green eyes, paired with his perfect jawline, made him look super handsome. Watching him leave, I couldn't help but actually feel sad deep inside. Despite the fact that Callum had always been present whenever I was bullied, he never actually bullied me, unlike the rest of his friends. However, I was happy because maybe this time, my 18th birthday party would be different from the other birthday parties I have thrown before.
A few weeks later, my birthday arrived, and I was both excited and nervous. Despite making sure my four bullies weren't coming, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something bad was going to happen. As I looked at myself in the mirror, wearing my elegant blue gown, I felt like a princess. My dad had put in a lot of effort for this day, and everything looked amazing. I just hoped it was going to stay that way.
