My Bullies, My Mates
• Valerie's POV
"Do I really have to go to this party? There's nothing exciting happening there. I'd much rather stay at home, honestly," I lamented, trying to sway my parents who were concerned that I was isolating myself.
They had no idea. It wasn't that I wanted to isolate myself but rather that I was being isolated by the entire pack. Shaking my head as I looked at my parents, I got up and decided to head upstairs to my room. My father was the beta of the pack. Being the beta, he was extremely warm and affectionate to everyone. He expected the same from me but I knew better because I was just submissive. A useless Omega that couldn't even look anyone in the eyes for two seconds.
“ Sweetie,” my mother called out to me as she stood in front of my room door trying to persuade me.
“ I don't want to go. Please, mother, talk to Dad and convince him.” I begged grabbing my mother's hand in an attempt to make her reason with me.
“ Tomorrow, you'll be resuming school, Valerie. You have to learn to socialize with people. Even if you are a submissive Omega.” My mother said making me sigh in defeat.
Grabbing the prettiest thing I could find in my closet and put it on. Braiding my hair into two sections, I put on some lip gloss and followed my father to the party. This party was being thrown by the Alpha of our pack for his son's 20th birthday. Although it was supposed to be a joyful occasion, I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread in me as I realized I was going to be face-to-face with some of my classmates from high school.
“ Go inside. We will be outside over there.” My father said coldly pushing me forward with one push before he made his way to meet the Alpha.
As I stood alone by the door, a sense of unease crept over me making me rub my hands nervously. Each moment seemed to stretch as I contemplated how to endure the night ahead. Just as I reached for the doorknob, it swung open from the inside, startling me and sending a jolt of fear through me. Standing before me was a commanding figure, exuding a powerful presence that made my heart race. His striking, midnight-black hair cascaded over his broad shoulders, and his intense, captivating eyes immediately drew me in, leaving me in no doubt as to who he was.
He was the celebrant of the party. The son of my pack's Alpha.
“ You. What are you doing here?” He asked coldly in a harsh tone making me clench my hands.
As I gazed at him, I tried to ignore the chills running down my spine and looked past to see his companions. There were four of them. Dominic, Leo, Callum, and Zane. All four of them were incredibly good-looking and were highly valued by the pack for their strength and confidence. However, I couldn't stand them. They had made my life a living nightmare since junior high, and every time I saw them, I couldn't help but shudder in fear. All four of them were sons of different Alphas and despite being from different packs, all four of them had a tight bond.
“ I will get going,” I said trying to turn around to leave however, Zane immediately blocked my path making me gasp.
“ Where do you think you are going? You ugly-looking cockroach. Did we say you can leave?” Zane asked angrily, making me stunned as I stepped back, hitting someone behind me.
Unable to take it any longer, I decided to confront them.
“ What did I ever do to you guys? Why do you hate me so much? Ever since I started attending school with you guys back in 8th grade, you guys have done nothing else but harass me.” I said.
“ Because we can. I thought you wouldn't dare to show up, but you did. Seems like you are no longer afraid of us.” Zane said walking up to me when suddenly my mother came to my rescue.
“ Is there a problem?” My mother asked gaining their attention.
Watching Zane move to the side so that I could depart with my mother, I proceeded to meet my father in order to seek his permission to leave. Just as I was about to do so, Dominic's birthday cake finally arrived, preventing me from leaving. Witnessing Dominic elegantly dressed in a red suit as he stepped out, I couldn't ignore his handsomeness. Shortly afterwards, the rest of Dominic's friends arrived to show their support, singing together for him. I disliked having to pretend that everything was okay, but I didn't have any other options.
“ Are you okay? Were they bullying you?” My mother asked seeming to catch up on what was happening.
I hesitated to expose them. My father would never believe me, especially since he seemed to want me to marry Dominic someday. How could I marry a guy who had always treated me so badly? I couldn't even imagine us being friends, let alone getting married. As I glanced at Dominic's friends, I could see the genuine happiness on their faces as Dominic was about to discover his mate. This ritual took place on everyone's 18th birthday, and today was Dominic's turn. I couldn't help but feel sorry for whoever was going to be his mate. They would be tethered to such a bully.
“ Let's start.” The Alpha said smiling.
The air crackled with tension, and everyone held their breath. Out of nowhere, a bright yellow rope materialized in my right hand, leaving me speechless. I followed the rope's path, desperately hoping it wasn't leading where I feared. To my horror, it was connected to Dominic, linking four other people's hands with mine. My heart pounded as I looked down at my entwined hands, gasping in disbelief.
“ This can't be happening,” I whispered looking at Dominic.
